  1. Your thinking of Parasocial interaction Right? I mean when one feels attracted to a character from a show. Thats actually preety normal, if you have ever been on any anime forum you'll understand what I mean. Secondly it sounds hard to believe that no one has gone through a phase where they feel for a fictional character.

Not the biggest anime fan myself with a few exceptions. (Pokemon, Digimon, Fullmetal Alchemist, Code Geass, Inyusha) That sounds about right though, good to know there is a more established theory that describes this. Yes I have felt such attraction before, but the characters were humanoid and not nearly as toon-like. I took a small amount of comfort with being what is described as a hetero-amorous demisexual. That is, I don't experience many of the "turn ons" someone my age would but I feel extremely attracted to girls I form an emotional connection to. Ashley Williams applied because her character had a lot of appeal to me. (Brown eyes, poetic, military, loves her family, God-fearing) and every other mission I would talk to her. Emotionally invested = heavy attraction to me. So when these ponies, particularly Fluttershy and Rarity, likewise display my preferred feminine traits and I watch them journey through their lives and world, well . . . I'm just asking for it.
  2. Yeah, I been wondering about that for a while myself. I was just too lazy to look up the answers.

Oh! You're welcome. I have to be honest I was half expecting shotguns and flamethrowers. (What is with us bronies and shotguns? It's like plan a: love and tolerance, plan b: shotgun. Sometimes the shotgun IS plan A!) I'm glad I was able to help, thank you for the positive feedback. It really DOES mean a lot! Do you have a particular 1 or 2 "crush pony"?

i dont think sadly that we will see any canon shipping

I know, I'm not too bummed about it though. If it ain't broke, don't fix it right?
  3. It all makes sense now! The reason I feel so attracted to these ponies is because they represent things I would find attractive in a fellow memeber of my species! Good work, Steelquill!

That video was Derpy! (I mean it was in-character. Not the video itself.)
  4. I think you guys kind of missed the point I was getting at. My fault for not being clear, sorry.

It all makes sense now! The reason I feel so attracted to these ponies is because they represent things I would find attractive in a fellow memeber of my species! Good work, Steelquill!

    Wow! I . . . actually . . . helped?
  5. Hello everypony, this is my first topic post. (I know the rules, this is NOT about sex or anything nasty. I like to keep things PG anyway.) Please be merciful, this is a topic I feel like I should discuss in-depth just for some closure.

So shortly after becoming a brony, which was probably marked right about the time Twilight got into her study in Canterlot, I started to watch clips from the show. (Pretty much the opposite of the typical brony, I dove in head first for the pilot!) As I watched the clips, I noticed people making remarks about the mane six that sounded beyond "X is best pony" and started sounding endeared. I pass it off at first as other's misplaced attraction . . . until a certain yellow pegasus caught my eye. Nothing physically was happening, but I couldn't deny that my emotions were scarily similar to the ones I felt when I had a hard crush during high school.

I still found graphic displays, and pictures repugnant and revolting, yet these feelings weren't going away. On the contrary, they were getting worse! Following Fluttershy infatuation was Rarity, then Twilight, then AJ, even Pinkie and Rainbow had their moments! After the initial panicked confusion I asked myself why I was feeling this way. Some research and looking at my personal history revealed some things. First off, these feelings weren't unprecedented. I felt similarly to the character of Jamie played by Mandy Moore from A Walk to Remember and Ashley Williams from Mass Effect.

    According

to Professor Masahiro Mori's "Uncanny Valley" when something is meant to look human but isn't, our brains automatically notice the things that aren't human. The same can be said of the opposite. C-3PO is funny because he is, in some ways, the most identifiable and human character even though he's visibly made of metal and circuitry. When something's clearly not human, it's human qualities stand out.

The ponie's human features, hair, eyes, smile, body language etc. are clearly apparent in contrast with their cartoon animal appearance.

When watching Mandopny's song Somepony's Waiting, the lyrics described them so well and evoked the feelings again, but this time without the trepidation. It clicked! It wasn't attraction to the ponies themselves, but what they meant in my head and heart. (Grab your INCEPTIONs it's about to Jungian up in this joint!) You see, according to Carl Jung, humans are hardwired to recognize certain things at a base level and are individual brains interpret them in different ways. (Dragons being common across mythology for instance.) The Mane 6 fit into ideal feminine archetypes. The little ones get their role models but our developed brains see past the cartoon and recognize the kind of people they represent.

Thus any "sexual attraction" boasted on the internet, I humbly submit, is typical bravado covering up a deep seated emotional stimulus. Your brain recognizing the things you REALLY want in a relationship.

    . . . Please don't hate me!

  6. Our community is huge, causing some variations in what a Brony is.

To some people, being a Brony is a secret obsession, that they don't like talking about it. Others don't care if people know it, so they show it.

Do you even fit the requirments of being a Brony?

Are you a Male/Female over the age of 12 and like My Little Pony? If you are, then you are a brony, so this does apply to you.

I'm not sure why I'm bringing this up, its just I'm starting to see some bronies start to behave unlike the idealistic brony, you know Love and Tolerance.

This is a multiple choice poll, select what applys and talk about what kind of brony you are, and what being one means to you. If I am missing a option, tell me and I'll add it.

Wahoo, Filly! . . . Sorry. Anyway I'm an open Brony, I don't try to hide, but I don't bring it up out of nowhere. I do, however, often suggest it to others in the hopes that they will join the fun! If they disencline, that's their choice. (I'm ashamed to admit I'm a bit more aggressive with one of my younger brothers whom I've shared almost everything with since we were little. I'm having such a good time I feel like he's missing out!) I've recently discovered I have a knack for writing, and this fandom was the first to actually put effort into fan-fiction!
  7. I was just curious how open other bronies are about their brony-ness. Do you walk around proudly displaying it or is it on a strictly need-to-know basis?

Personally I'm completely open about it. I'm wearing a Princess Luna shirt from WeLoveFine right now (it was a gift from my little sister. She's so sweet. :P ). I don't randomly bring it up or try to shove the show down other people's throats or anything, but I'm not afraid to say I like it if it comes up or someone asks. How about you all?

Pretty much the exact same thing, down to the younger sibling t-shirt gift. My brother got me a Rainbow Dash shirt this Christmas, best gift I got!

On Facebook, I literally responded to EVERYTHING using pony videos.

A friend would post, "I just got a <item> today", and I would post Scootaloo saying "Coooool."

I'm going to stop that, because no one talks to me on Facebook anymore :(

Irl, I don't really talk about it. I'm not as social irl as I am on the internet.

Who needs Facebook? You have us! I would chat on Facebook with you though. I think that's cool hownyounrespond with that. I sometimes do that one YouTube if I can think of an appropriate reference.

  8. Cupcakes. Was a nice break from non-violence.

But was it meaningful violence? As future military, I know violence is sometimes a neccisty. (I too, also think it's a blast to have our little ponies kick some ass every now and then.) My biggest criticism of Cupcakes, aside from the obvious, is it's ubiquity. Pinkie didn't kill Dash, she never would hurt anypony, especially her friends, yet every time she's crossed or even slightly miffed people bring it back up again.
  9. I like, neigh, I LOVED what they did! Everyone working on the show is confirmed for best pony! (As EdD put it.) I'm still partial to the idea that Derpy is Dash's nickname for her and her actual name is Ditzy, but HEY they SAID IT! I say we, as bronies, compromise as we did with Lyra's full name. (Lyra Heartstrings)

    Dash: pause for dramatic effect

    Ditzy "Derpy" Doo!

    . . .

Luna: Very well! Be that way!

As for stealing the spotlight, well that opening was REALLY hard to pay attention to, but the shock wore off and we got an Applejack western treat!

  10. As far as shipping goes. I don't do homosexual ones. I'm sorry. I don't have anything against filly fondlers or colt cuddlers, ("love and tolerance" right?) that's just not my idea of true love. Out of all shipping, I like Big Macintosh and Fluttershy the best. His patient and calming demeanor compliments her compassion and grace. Those two are made for each other. I also like Applejack and Soarin, I've only read one story that did it right, but boy did it do it right! Who knew "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach" could be so touching? I also like it when I come across art that depicts them with OCs when they manage to pull it off convincingly. Exhibit A) http://freethinker5....set=24#/d3g4ybv

Agh! Poor Fluttershy, she already went through that misery once!
  11. I would go in a heartbeat, as much as I love our world it is also a craptastic place.

I actually was discussing something similar with my friend today (non-brony), and I told him I would go just to get away from all of the mess (didn't tell him my destination of choice would be Equestria though ;) ).

If I did go I would make sure to explain it to my family and friends first, I would miss them but I could never pass up an opportunity like that.

As much as I would choose to do so, I don't think saying goodbye would be an option. (All theoretical of course!) When the Doctor offers to take someone along in the TARDIS, do you think he waits around for them to arrange affairs? Then again, it could be like the gate to the digital world. Who knows?
  12. Drawing the line between special talent and life purpose. I think my cutie mark would be a quill pen crossed with a sword. I recently discovered that writing as an artistic medium, is actually something I'm quite good at. (First one to say "I hope we hear a story from . ." is gonna get skyswiped!) Though I'm a hard-wired left brainier (it's a condition) so I have to be very formulaic and researched about how, who, and what I'm writing before I even begin. The sword comes from my sense of duty to serve in the armed forces. Ever since a certain event, I've felt compelled to protect people from those that would do them harm by force of arms.

I already HAVE my cutie mark! Of course it is like RD's cutie mark! I am like her brother, or best friend, or boyfriend (if it were possible).

Like those rose colored eyes, hey Rainbow?

  13. We had a topic exactly like this so long ago.

It is breaking the 4th wall, that is all.

Think of how they would even use guns?

If they had guns, don't you think the royal guards would use them?

The Royal Guard might be purely ceremonial, as such positions often are in real life. If they DO need to handle something, they can fly and control weather, that might be enough considering anything capable of actually hurting Celestia is gonna blow through her guards lickity split anyway. Unicorns could use firearms by levitating them with their magic. (Great for blind-firing as they don't even need to expose limbs around corners or cover.) They also might be able to mount weapons on harnesses and discharge them by bucking, or wing action. Just a thought. Just because we don't see them doesn't mean they aren't there. Which in my mind is fine for a cartoon, guns are real, pretending they're not is an insult to the younger viewers intelligence. They don't have to be shown or focused on, just don't try and act like the younger viewers don't know what's going on when Chief Thunderhooves is dramatically downed by a pie.

  14. Befriend: Fancypants. He's a man of wealth and taste. I like to consider myself somewhat cultured and enjoy the finer things in life. He's also a nice guy who likes to entertain new friends and disapproves ponies looking down on others. I'd probably be his bodyguard buddy.

Flirt: I'm . . . . really not good at flirting. Definitely Fluttershy, that girl pushes ALL my "will you marry me" buttons! Rarity coming in at a close second, because she places such emphasis on being a lady, I like that in a woman. Plus she would appreciate my gentlemanly conduct!

Prank: Discord. "Oh hi there buddy! New look? That frozen scream of defeat and humiliation is a REALLY good look for you! I know how I can make it better!" *Doodles mustache, glasses, "this space for rent" across his wings, baseball and machine screw, etc* "Ooh! I also found you some friends. Meet Tom and Rocky! In fact, let me get a picture!" *whips out camera* "Scoot close together now!" *Snap* "Oh yeah, that's a keeper." *Ditzy arrives in storage truck* "Your ride is hear! Your gonna have such fun with Pinkie's folks. Bye Discord! Tell Mr. and Mrs. Pie Pinkie says hi! MWAHAHAHAHA!" (That was way too easy to think up and I enjoyed that thought faaaaar more than I should have. )

  15. Humans...weren't exactly the best thing to happen to Earth.

I don't want to taint Equestria too.

I'd go IF I could be turned into a pony. But since my mindset would still be human, I'd have to change my brain, aka become a completely different person.

So it's a trick question. IF you go in, you won't become you anymore. If you don't you stay human in Earth.

There is no way for YOU to go to Equestria, unless you're just plain selfish and want to taint it like humans did Earth :

That being said, I would give anything in my power to go become a pony on Equestria...It just wouldn't be for the best. :(

Awww Give yourself and your species some credit! We may not all be saints but people are good, becoming a brony has showed me just how MANY people are good and willing to believe in virtues beyond themselves but still desire inner happiness. Earth isn't all bad either and it's only getting better as medicine advances, freedom of information is spreading, human rights have improved. I've been all over the world, every nation I've been to has been blessed with such nice and welcoming people. I've seen the bad too though. But hey! Equestria isn't perfect either. Remember how the three tribes almost doomed themselves because of how much they hated each other? What about the Buffalo and the settlers of Appleloosa? Even in the idyllic Ponyville, the townsfolk were xenophobic to Zecora at first. You take the good with the bad. I don't think humans would taint Equestria, and I assume the portal turns you into the local's shape anyway. If your a good person, Equestria would have a home for you, simple as that.

I'd certainly go to Equestria, but I'd want to become a pony. I'd love meeting Fluttershy. In response to the people who say a human in Equestria would ruin it, I don't see how a nice person like myself would do any harm.

I know right? Geez I thought we were supposed to be the idealistic and hopeful internet subculture. (Sorry for the short reply.)

Totally yes. Although unlike what you seem to think, ponies are not perfect, however, it is Celestia who is perfect, I mean, she's a godess, and I've given it thought, and the only way to have a perfect society is one that is ruled by a perfect god, and not one up in the heavens that you have to blindly believe in, one right here down in earth that can proove it's own existance.

So yes, since my girlfriend left me, I'd go to equestria

Actually. Now that you mention it. According to the Book of Revelations, after the battle of Armageddon where evil is defeated, God will rule his Kingdom on Earth and all will be good. Celestia's reign over Equestria just might resemble what that will look like!

  16. I've actually planned on becoming a politician, and then once retiring going into some sort of educational help, and I was totally thinking the same thing, to incorporate ponies, and other things of our time, into lessons.

We must also take into account future history. Europe is desperately failing, and if things take a turn for the worse ponies might get wiped out or ignored in the resulting madness.

Of course, I also never plan on forgetting ponies, but they'll definetly, as Zero said, fall out of the spotlight. Because honestly, it WILL get boring after a while. The MLP fandom is already breaching the corners of the fandom box and creating obscure art, music and fanfics; how long till we begin to lose ideas?

    It WILL die down.

Not to be rude or anything, but I must respectfully disagree. We've already accomplished more artistically in a few months what larger and older fanbases have taken years to do! I've begun to write my first fan-fiction. (I've been telling myself for years to start writing and THIS show got me to do it!) Even if the show is canceled, bronies will still be around. I once saw on a comment for "Epic Cupcake Time" somepony said something to the effect of "the bronies have transcended fandom. When the show ends they will MAKE more episodes!" Even if it was meant in jest I think he had a point. That clip, along with "Luna's Lament" are pretty dang close to the show in animation quality and voice acting accuracy. Groups of bronies COULD get together for projects like that! Even as we move forward with our lives, we'll look back on these times fondly and remember all the fun and even friends we made BECAUSE of this fandom. I'll be an old man and there will still be a BroNYcon, hopefully. Not to sound unrealistically idealistic, that's just my two bits. (Wow! My first forum post. Am I supposed to feel something?)

I'll be like 90 and say

"listen kids, back in my day, ponies were the hip trend on the internet, we were going to change the world"

Correction. We DID change the world.
  17. My name is Anthony, but I guess for the purposes of this forum you could call me Thunderchaser. I actually discovered this show after watching Code: MENT, a parody of Code: Geass by PurpleeyesFTW. He used a clip from a PMV, got curious and looked it up, that lead me to the TVTropes article, article said it was good so I was off to YouTube, several months later . . . .

    Pinkie: "Here I am!"

I've never signed up for a forum before if that's any indication of my internet savvy. Right off the bat I would like to thank everypony and the creators. I've never had this much fun on the internet!
