  1. She over came her fear during Dragonshy. She put that dragon in his place, and made it cry if I remember. And got him to find a new home. Even if she was scared beyond belief while climbing the mountain, she prevailed in the end though, when her friends needed her most. :squee:

Yup, that dragon started bawling his eyes out.

Seriously... that's easily one of my favorite scenes from the whole series.  ^_^

  2. It's true that the fandom's perspective is twentysomething male-dominated, but the OP is hardly alone in this fandom. I know of several female fans personally, and I've never seen them get treated any differently in the brony groups I'm part of. I hope the OP's experiences are just a one-off thing and not a trend.

  3. Indeed. I also love how she's becoming more naturally assertive as of late. :squee:  Becoming less of a "door mat" as everyone seems to call her. :(

I'm glad that she's finding that balance of being assertive without going Flutterbitch. Looking back, she is the same kind and adorable pony that we began to love, but she has gone through that personal development. Those initial traits are still there, she hasn't become a completely new pony, but her fears and timidness have become tempered through the experiences that she has shared with the Mane 6, allowing her to shine.

I've noticed similar development in the other Mane characters. Twilight has seemingly overcome some of the more OCD aspects of her personality, or at least made it so they're muted to the point where they won't cause problems. Rarity has gradually become less vain and self-centered. Pinkie is... Pinkie, but she hasn't had a full-on psychotic episode since The Last Roundup. And Fluttershy is becoming more self-confident.

She's still got a long way to go. "Baby steps", in her own words. But the best thing about her is, no matter how her personality changes for the rest of the series, we can count on her being just as adorable as she is now.  :yay:

  4. Okay, seriously?...

First off, what exactly did they factor in about their personalities?  They somehow got the idea that Venusaur would go right for Charizard and that Charizard would turn off his attack on Blastoise for Venusaur.  It doesn't make sense.  Charizard wouldn't turn his flames on anything weaker than itself.

Again, the animation isn't necessarily a representation of how they think the fight would actually go. They design it to look cool and show off what they learned in their research. Sometimes that results in things seeming a bit... off. (See Batman-Spider Man for an INCREDIBLE example of this.)

Venusaur didn't exclusively go after Charizard, he unleashed the Leech Seed and Poison Powder on both of them. At that point, getting rid of Charizard would make sense, because that would give him the typing advantage over the last opponent. As for Charizard... he would HAVE to turn his flames on Venusaur eventually, or the health drain moves would kill him. If a Pokemon is getting drained by Leech Seed/PP, I doubt they would just ignore the one who did it. That wouldn't be the smart move.

Again, the winner was determined by adding up all of the possible simulations. I thought Charizard would win, but after they showed their work their conclusion makes sense to me. And they also acknowledged that there are ways that all 3 could win. They basically admitted that in 52% of the simulations their conclusion is wrong, so you don't necessarily HAVE to accept their version. But they can only do one fight, so they went with the most common winner.

  5. Well, I just saw the new Pokemon Death Battle and I gotta say that I'm shocked at how it turned out.

So, this Death Battle has all of their moves taken through natural means.  No outside influence through IVs and EVs, no TMs/HMs, no Mega Evolution, and no moves from breeding known as Egg Moves.  That last part making no sense since it still counts as natural means.  Venusaur gets destroyed by Charizard even though the Pokedex entries states that Charizard never turns its flames to opponents weaker than itself and that Venusaur goes about fighting Charizard in the stupidest way possible.  After that, it was pretty much over for Charizard because of Rainy Day being a natural move for Blastoise.  ughhhh, Water Starter fanboys are never going to let anybody hear the end of this...  >_>

I understand being somewhat baffled by how the animation progresses, but that's not always going to make sense. The winner is determined by their research. The animation is simply designed to look as cool as possible. (Whether this one succeeded in that regard, I'll leave up to you.)

They explain in the outro that in all of the possible simulations of the fight,

    Blastoise wins the most often.

That data point is the only thing that matters in the end. Had that data point gone to one of the other two, they would have been the winner instead.

  6. img-2508014-1-ash_and_fluttershy_as_a_hu

...Why not? He's been shipped with just about everyone (and everything) else...

Because Fluttershy is way too awesome for him and she deserves much better, that's why.  B)

(Note: Even my 12 year old self couldn't get over how worthless of a protagonist Ash was, but that *was* 14 years ago now. So maybe he's changed since then. But if he hasn't... yeah. )

  7. Well, lookie here! We got the two earth ponies of the Mane Six in the final round! Who would have predicted that from the start? I am a bit bummed that the Fluttershy fans were MIA for this tourney's prior round. The Flutter flock kept things an absolute nail biter in Doc's tournament. I guess you Flutterhards lost your will to fight or just didn't know about this new tournament in time?

Make that AND, Sugar Cube. My numbers might be a little off, but I'm pretty sure this round got about half the votes of the original tourney's final four round. So it's safe to say there were a LOT of people who either didn't know about this new thread or didn't care. In that scenario, the first people you're going to lose will be the ones who were the least directly engaged.

And judging by the number of pics and vids going up as visible signs of support in the discussion thread, it's also safe to say that would be the Flutter flock. Quite a few of us just showed up and voted, and didn't feel the need to do it all again. (ESPECIALLY after Fluttershy came out ahead in that final round vote on Sunday. I think that might have at least a few people thinking "who cares, we already won".)

There's a lot of possible explanations for the lack of turnout, and I'd guess the best answer is "a little bit of all of it".

    • Brohoof 2
  8. I have to say that was a really exciting tournament this year. It's not often you get a 7 vs. 8 final, even if they are Uconn and Kentucky. To be fair though, I don't think anyone expected Uconn to make a run like this, especially after almost losing to St. Joseph's in the first round.

Yeah, I had them beating Villanova and going to the Sweet 16, but that was it. Incredible run by them.

    • Brohoof 1
  9. Really? hm. I also heard that people were getting others to sign up to these forums, from other forums and such, just to vote on the poll. Whether that's true or not, remains to be seen.

I was just a little miffed to find out that voting had been for nothing. I mean, it's fun voting, and watching to see who's getting voted for. having everypony win kinda took the mystery of who actually won. But I digress. Happy to see that she made it thus far.

Yea, I know of a certain couple Pinkie fans, had started the majority of the fiasco during the first Semi-Finals voting. It was all fine and dandy until it was Rarity vs Pinkie and AJ vs Flutters, and certain members started needlessly slandering other members and ponies. That just takes the "fun" out an innocent competition.

I couldn't believe what I was seeing with what some of the members posted....I kinda wish I had screenshotted it, but before i could, the posts were all hidden/deleted. I have a feeling we won't be having something like this again. Though it'd be nice to have another one. A few people ruin something, and then suddenly it's gone for everyone.

I have no problem with how XFizzle handled that, except that he apparently decided to make all four be co-champions before the final poll was even put up. If that was his plan the whole time, it would have been best to just forgo the championship round. That final vote was apparently just him trolling everyone. And while the intentions were sound (imo), the execution was fumbled. The last thread proves it: people didn't get the point he was trying to make. They just got more bitter about the whole thing.

The mods didn't delete everything, btw. The post about Rarity/Fluttershy's slave dungeons was still up, last time I looked.

Oh, and there will be another one of these in just a few months. The MLP Forums World Cup. Hopefully, the guy in charge of that takes the right precautionary measures to make sure something like this doesn't happen there.

  10. Indeed. If it wasn't for all the dupe accounts and the bashing of other ponies, Fluttershy probably would've won against AJ, seeming she was ahead by 15 votes and then an hour later she was behind by 10-15 votes.

Though, the way it went, I don't know, logically Fluttershy won by 1 vote. so she's the technical "winner". Even if they decided to let all four win. I know it shouldn't bother me, but it does. the competition was ruined by a few people for me.

It's like "yea, you can vote, but I'm gonna let all four win, anyways" There was no real point in voting in the last poll.I was looking forward to see who would've won.And When I seen the topic locked and Fluttershy ahead by one vote, I got excited for a second. Then I went to the thread announcing the winners, and I was kinda disappointed.

But I'll always love Fluttershy, no matter what. :squee:

One of the mods revealed that there was actually only one fake/duplicate account. The allegation came after someone found out that the site had a bunch of new members, but it turns out they were all different people and not all of them were voting in the polls. So that was a relief.

I can't be too bothered by how that ended. Yes, it's reasonable to conclude that Fluttershy had the most fans of anyone in that forum (pretty sure alliance voting kept AJ and Rarity in the game), so by that measure we "won". And that's good enough for me.

If anything, the co-champion conclusion can be taken as a wrist-slap for the people who took the tournament (particularly the final rounds) WAY too seriously. And I'm entirely on board with that sentiment. Until we reached the Final Four, that thread was a lot of fun. Hopefully it comes back next year, and stays that way the whole way through.

    • Brohoof 4
  11. At this point I just want it to be over and no matter who's going to win, it won't be a real winner for me.

I understand your frustration with how this has ended, especially with how AJ had a win snatched away and the one she beat now appears to be on the verge of winning the whole thing on the re-vote.

But your last sentiment is one I can't agree with. In fact, I go in what feels like the opposite direction: I'll consider all of them winners.

All four scored impressive wins on their way to the Final Four. (Flutters over Luna, AJ blowing out Dashie, Rarity over Twilight, and Pinkie blowing out Derpy.) And all four sides brought an incredible energy to those Final Four matches. Everyone was rallying their respective sets of fans and trying their absolute hardest to get the W.

Everyone here is a winner, save for the few who brought the negativity in here at the eleventh hour. But they're all gone now, so I don't feel the need to dwell on their presence anymore.

Honestly, I view Fluttershy as the rightful "champion" here. Yes, there's definitely personal bias informing that view, but the Rarijack alliance seemed to be ridiculously tight. I could be wrong about this, but it looked to me like Pinkie and Fluttershy were both effectively going up against TWO sets of fans in those semifinal matches, and the fact that Pinkie won and Fluttershy only fell one short seems quite telling of their relative strength. So is Yellowquiet being ahead of everyone in a vote where people can only pick one, though that analysis admittedly is... complicated, somewhat... by the presence of the "all characters" option.

Mad props to Rarity and AJ for making it this far, though. I wasn't expecting that before the tournament started. Seems the fandom's preferences have changed somewhat in ways I wasn't previously aware of. Not that there's anything wrong with that; I also like both of them quite a bit more than I used to.

  12. Just woke up, who advanced to the title match? *looks at poll*

    Oh, my.

    post-13366-0-75099400-1396809982.jpg

Oh @@Doctor XFizzle, you clever boy.

*walks into Flutter Corps locker room, looks at team*

Well, fillies and gentlecolts, I guess we can consider this our revive. Great moments are born from great opportunities, and this... this is a great opportunity we have been given.

Win or lose, our journey ends here. But as we go out on this field for one final time, forget about the drama of yesterday. Forget about the haters. And most importantly, don't get caught up in winning or losing this match.

Instead, hold your heads up high. Be proud of what our team has accomplished. And most importantly, remember what got you here. None of the things our team did would have been possible without the dedication of the fans of the kindest, most adorablest, all-around-awesome pegasus in Ponyville!

Unleash it, one last time. And if each of us are at our best again in this match, it doesn't matter what the scoreboard says at the end, I think we're all gonna be winners.

So get out there and take it.  ;)

  13. To arms my friends, to arms! Our fair Fluttershy is so close to winning against AJ.. Last time I checked it was 5 votes to tie, and of course anything over that to win...I'm not sure how much longer the poll will be open, so we must rally!

    http://mlpforums.com/topic/89885-2014-mlp-forums-march-madness-tournament-final-four/page-29#entry2477063

The poll on this match will close early this afternoon. Probably about 5-6 hours left, as I write this.

I can't believe we're losing to Applejack. Well, they did have to literally ask everyone to help them out to try and beat Fluttershy. Goes to show how big Fluttershy's fanbase really is.

Given that the Rarity fans are going near unanimously to AJ, and vice versa, I'm surprised BOTH Pinkie and Flutters are holding up so well. Might there be a backlash vote against the quite visible Rarijack alliance? Maybe, and if that's what it takes to knock them off I'm fine with that.  ^_^

  14. First, the mods have restored my faith in humanity, somewhat. Thanks for that.

Second, I'm done having my sad now. While I was at my second job and heard news of Flutters facing a double-digit deficit, I heard a distant voice. Gradually, it grew more near... until its message became clear.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ix03iJm3Bw

Flutter Corps, we have rallied. We have rallied again. And we have rallied YET AGAIN. In the face of an unstoppable force and insurmountable odds, here we stand.

WE CAN STILL WIN THIS! RISE, AND MAKE OUR FINAL STAND! SEE HER THROUGH TO THE FINALS!!!

  15. Wow... just looked over the posts I missed while at work, and this just got... sad.

Seriously, the negativity that swirled in here... legitimately saddens me.

I almost can't bring myself to care who wins now. I've gone from looking forward to seeing the results, to looking forward to this being over. It's a shame a few, uh, "enthusiastic" folks had to do... "things".

Thanks to all who didn't participate in that, and tried to keep things positive.
