  1. Still woke up feeling groggy. Waking up early was already painful enough, but on days like this it was especially painful. It was time for the reaping to get underway. Still hated "useless" days like this. He'd much rather be doing something productive like studying or reading. Instead he had to spend the day surrounded by other ponies. Personally Still enjoyed watching the Hunger Games every year. Seeing ponies actually fighting for their lives was exciting and almost as fun as getting lost in an epic story. What he hated was all the time spent picking out the victims and having the capital try to make characters out of them. Typical fake reality show garbage.

Still's stomach growled as he stood in the crowd. He wasn't the only one. All of the ponies around him looked like they were ready to fall over. Living in District 2 was no picnic. It was hard work doing so much manual labor to create weapons, yet the workers were barely given enough food to survive. Being a unicorn, Still was required to use his magic for production which wasn't nearly as painful. Normally by this time he would have snuck out into the forest and scrounged up something to eat.

He tapped his foot impatiently, waiting for the annoying mayor to hurry up and pick out two names.

  2. I have an idea on how this could go down.

First we do all the pre-fighting stuff, interviews and what not, then we get down to the game.

For my idea to work we need someone to be the game master. Every 24 hours is when a turn happens. Before the deadline everyone must tell the game master what they want to do. This way we keep our actions and strategies private from one another. Everyone gets to move a random number of squares. We're all on a grid and when two or more players end up on the same square then we have the chance to attack, avoid, or try to form an alliance. Each square may contain items to use, or traps sent out by the game makers to kill us.

We'd need to work out a skill system and have everyone distribute a certain number of points to each skill. I want to think up more but I need to get some sleep for tomorrow. Feel free to play around with this idea.

  3. Ah that's an interesting thought, that AJ and Rarity had previously run into each other at business meetings.

I realized something else that's within the show. "Griffin Brushoff" showed that Pinkie and RD didn't know each other very well.

I think it's pretty obvious that everypony else was aware of who Pinkie was, that crazy party pony who comes around every now and then. I doubt anyone knew her on a more personal level.

  4. I was thinking about how the other 5 met before Twilight came to town.

As far what we have to go on within the show there's only a few tidbits of information

    1. We know that Rainbow and Fluttershy knew each other when they were kids in flight school.

    2. Based on the fact that Applebloom and Sweetie Bell didn't know each other until they met at a party, I think it's telling that Applejack and Rarity didn't have much of a friendship, if any at all.

    3. We know that Applejack and Rainbow are BBFs, as are Fluttershy and Rarity. Though we don't know 100% if that was prior to when they met Twilight.

Other then that there's not much to go on. I have a few ideas.

    1. Maybe Applejack knew Fluttershy early on, as they both have animals to deal with. If this is the case then AJ and RD may have met through Fluttershy.

    2. AJ and RD became friends, while Fluttershy and Rarity became friends. The four may have crossed paths a few times based on RD and Fluttershy knowing each other but were mostly acquaintances.

    3. Pinkie Pie is friends with everyone and naturally knew all of them. Perhaps she was responsibile for introducing them to each other initially.

    Anyone have more ideas?

  5. I'd like to see an episode that deals with having a friendship for the wrong reason.

For example, we take at look at Silver Spoon, We find out the reason she hangs out with Diamond Tiara is because she has trouble making friends, and Diamond allows them to be friends as long as Silver Spoon does what she's told. Silver Spoon puts up with it because she doesn't want to be along again.

Two possible endings. Silver Spoon sticks up for herself and leaves Diamond, probably becoming friends with the CMC. Or Diamond learns a lesson in how to treat other ponies and the two renew their friendship.

  6. I can think of two plots I'd like to have for a MLP movie.

First I'd like to see how the other mane 5 met before Twilight came to town. What were their lives like when they were growing up? How did they meet each other? Did they hang out on a regular basis before the elements of harmony brought them together?

Second I'd like to see the showdown that happened long ago between Discord and Celestia and Luna. Maybe even a life story for the two sisters. We've been speculating like mad about it, and it would be the perfect subject for an extended episode.

  7. Celestia vs Discord: Let's see what these two Demi-Gods are really capable of!

Pinkamena vs Psyco Twilight: Which psychotic breakdown is the strongest!

Enraged Fluttershy vs Rainbow Dash: Rainbow may be the #1 flyer, but is it enough to take on Fluttershy's deep seated rage!

Steven Magnet vs The Big Red Dragon: Which will win, fire or water!

  8. I remember back when the internet was taking off and I was always seeing all these crazy screen names where people were trying to look as cool as possible, and man did a lot of them use FF7 characters. For fun I decided to go the other route and use a SN that sounded visually unappealing.

Also I've always been a very skinny guy, so it's fun for people who know me.laugh.png

  9. I've actually been afraid of this happening for some time. My guess was that there would eventually be an anime spin off, a la Powerpuff Girls Z. I was certainly not expecting this to happen so soon.

It's scary because it's so easy to imagine this going horribly wrong. If this project gets passed to a group of crappy writers, then we're going to end up with another stupid teen drama show. All the usual crap: The girls will be stripped down to one dimensional characters. We'll be seeing episodes dealing with "real teen issues," which will be about boy problems, popularity problems, keeping up with fashion, and so on. Everything that MLP has managed to avoid so far.

But there's still a possibility that it won't be a trainwreck. If they use the same writers we could end up with the same quality.

Though for me the problem here is that this feels like it's going to be a major rehash. We already have a show about the six girls going through life and learning about friendship, why do we need another one? What will being human add to the table? Isn't it basically just going to be the same thing with a face lift?

Either way we have no idea what's going on at the moment. If this is going to be a series, or some weird special, or whatever. Gonna have to wait until more info comes along.

  10. Excellent show so far.

    1. Favorite Character: Tie between Stan and Soos

    2. Favorite Episode: Double Dipper

    3. Why do you like it: I've been very impressed with the writing. Lots of really great jokes in a rapid fire comedy style, which is difficult to do but this show nails it. The characters are great, and it's good to see a pair of siblings who get along. I sware it's like there's some unwritten rule in the media that brothers and sisters have to hate each other. The mystery aspect is great too. I heard that the writers have 3 seasons roadmaped, so here's hoping they can get that 3rd one.

  11. I really loved Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000.

The towns amusing obsession with cider, the rumor that it's alcholic, Flim and Flam being a montage to "The Music Man" along with their kickass song. Lot of crazy fun.

I also like that Applejack remembered her lesson from Applebuck Season and wasn't afriad to ask her friends for help. I also like that even though they won, Flim and Flam got driven out of town as a result of their cheap methods.

And for all you guys who wonder about why people don't like Mare-Do-Well, it's not Rainbow Dash that most people critisize, it's the other girls. Instead of doing something logical like having an intervention for Rainbow, they create this persona and repeatedly humiliate her in front of the public. Kind of a messed up way to "help" her.

  12. I'm surprised so many people liked this fan episode. Personally I found it to be very hallow. A serious lack of any real substance.

There was such a huge amount of filler. Way too much time spent watching Rainbow fly around and looking at background ponies. There's a reason they're called "background" ponies. They should be hanging out in the background while the plot is moving forward. Instead precious time is spent just...looking at them. Not that they had anything to do with what was going on, it was an unfortunant case of "Hey look, this is a thing. It exists. No joke or point, it's just here to be here."

The big problem here was that there were two major plot elements going on, and neither one was fully explored.

First we have this potion that Twilight has made. It's some kind enchancment that pushes ponies to their limits, based on their special talent. This right here is enough of a concept to explore for an episode. Instead it's only used as a set up for the other part.

Second is the crossover with the PPG's. What really upset me about this was the credits. We see a bunch of characters from both shows having humerous interactions with each other. This is what the episode should have been focused on if the whole point was to have a crossover. Instead we only have RD get chased by the girls for a little bit.

Overall there really isn't much substance to this. The whole thing makes me feel really bad. This guy managed to get a group of people to help him and they successfully created a 25 or so minute animation. Dispite all the work that was put into it, it's held back so much by bad writing. There's no theming, no subtlety, no meaningful character interaction, no development, no world building, and a half assed moral lesson stuck in at the end.

I can't believe this guy, Zachary, considers this to be on par with the show. It lacks pretty much everything that makes MLP a stand out show in the first place. The animation is fine, but what good is that if the story, the very substance, is so weak? If he would have just hired a decent writer to help out. I'm a writer myself, and I could easily make a great episode based on that potion alone.

Such a shame, so much work for such a disappointment.

  13. An interesting observation. I imagine that the crew knew that Discord was going to be popular and had hopes that he would appear in later episodes. Not sure if by that point they had already started thinking about having Fluttershy be the one to help reform him, though.

It might have actually been forshadowing Discord's forced brainwashing of Fluttershy later in the episode.

  14. The only couple I've ever really considered is Rainbow/Applejack

They've got a lot in common. They're both althletic, and honesty and loyalty are their main, defining traits (Although with Rainbow it's more about brutal honesty). I could see their key differences balancing each other out. Applejack could get Rainbow to stop napping so much and get some work done, While RD can help Applejack take a break once in a while and have some fun.

It's a double-edge sword though, those differences could just as easily cause major strife between them. Doesn't help that they're both pretty stubborn too. Still though, if the two of them learned to trust one another and work together, I bet it would lead to a healthy relationship.

I also think Celestia/Discord is an interesting idea. That they were involved with each other but had a falling out. I do enjoy some Foe Yay.

  15. IMHO, I think a lot of people are bothered by Babs not "paying" in some way for the bad things she did. It's such a standard in cartoons and storytelling in general that Karma has to be followed. Someone did something bad, they must be punished for it somehow. And it's so widespread and common that when it doesn't happen, it can really throw people for a loop.

It's weird, because while they avoided punishing Babs, they played it straight with Diamond and Silver Spoon. Those two were punished in the end by falling in the mud, even though they had to shove it in at the last second.

    The moral's good.

Here's the thing I might have a problem with.  It would've been bad to get Babs knocked into the mud because she was only being a bully because she was emotionally hurt.  At the end, Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon fall in the mud.  For all we know, they're emotionally hurt too!

Or they could just be shallow, unredeemable characters. What do I know?

A good thought here on Diamond and Sliver. I think it would have made a much better ending if the CMC's had started to wonder why those two are bullies. Would have been a great way to set up a future episode where that idea is explored.

  16. I like to think there was something shady going on behind the scenes. Cheerilee knew what was going on, and when the Gabby Gums articles got popular she started selling the paper. Made a ton of money, shut it down once the CMC quit, and blames everything on Diamond T.

  17. I saw the two G1 movies long ago when I was a kid since my sister would rent them.

I was really surprised by "Escape from Midnight Castle." It was actually interesting and had some cool villains. Unfortunately none of the ponies really stood out. And that Sea Pony song has been stuck in my head ever since.

Too bad the other movie fell flat. I looked at it again about a year ago, and geez is it painful to watch! I can't believe I sat through it 3 times when I was younger. Once again none of the ponies manage to stand out, and this time the villains weren't enough to help.

I'm still impressed with that first movie. I guess the team knew that everyone was expecting mindless girly crap, so they decided to throw a curve ball. Really awesome of them to take a chance like that.

I like to think it went something like this

    post-13904-0-05267900-1364170141_thumb.png

  18. Great episode. I usually get annoyed when a plot is too predictible, and I immediately knew what was going on and how the episode was going to end. Dispite that, I love this episode. I may have known what was going to happen, but it was a ton of fun the whole time.

I also like that Pinkie was well written in this episode. A character like Pinkie can be hard to write well. The idea is that she's thoughtful and clever, but naive. A lot of times writers simply go with, "Make her say or do something stupid, it will be funny." I remember Dee Dee in Dexter's Lab had this same problem.
