S06:E25+E26 - To Where and Back Again

Reforming Chrysalis would be a terrible mistake. She has a fanatical following as she is, from all sorts of demographics including very young fans who would find it very difficult to accept the change. There are some villains who are too good to de-claw. Having Starlight and Sunset change their ways was fine. Discord's change was also okay because there's always the aspect of him being chaotic anyway, so even when acting kind he's still ambivalent overall. Chrysalis is outright fairytale evil queen villainous - I was terrifed they'd ruin this when Starlight tried to take her hand, Chrissie's rejection was a huge relief. -
Oh good. For me, it's more like this sort of thing: In her earlier films she threw a deliberate cutesy "exhale" into all her lines and struck facial expressions to match. This was before she realised there was more to acting than her early directors had explained to her, and dropped the fake bimbo act in favour of trying to perform more realistically and seriously for later movies. I just don't know what to say to people who can't hear and see Fluttershy in that scene, or all the others in her early material.

This is just a weird thing that's been bugging me for a while and so far I've not seen directly addressed before. Once in a while I notice other Bronies comparing Rarity to Marilyn Monroe. For obvious reasons - the diamonds, the attitude, etc. General stuff that I'd hesitate to say is grounded in a shallow understanding of (or near total lack of exposure to) Monroe and her performances, like it's just a glance at two icons and their superficially common factors rather than any deeper link. By contrast, what I don't think I've ever seen (happy to be corrected here) is anyone comparing Fluttershy to Monroe. This has been baffling to me for some time now, as Fluttershy's voice is almost an exact replication of the gimmick-voice that Marilyn Monroe used to deploy in her earlier movies, when she was cast as the ditzy innocent blonde. Have other people caught this similarity before? As a prime example, just watch some parts of Monroe's work in "How to Marry a Millionaire" (arguably the best example) and I think anyone can hear the really obvious similarities. I know it's just a weird point, but as someone who knows Monroe's films quite well it just feels werid when others make the quick Rarity-Monroe "glitz and glamour" linkage when for me there's a much more apt and interesting one to Fluttershy (and not just the voice either, also the animal kindness, shyness and general innocence elements).

Seeking advice on whether to buy this expensive plush.

Erm, all of them I think... Well, all the ones that are in the show. Plus a few dozen that are effectively "collatoral damage" to my monies, picked up while I was trying to get the ones I wanted. I also got the Funko Discord since he's the perfect size to join the blind bag ponies. p.s. There's a fairly well-scaled Angel figure in the Equestria Girls Fluttershy playset. I bought the entire set just for him and gave the rest away

Hmm. Okay, so now there are clear pics of the next (third) round of FiM "blind bag" ponies, confirming that the series is still just about on track to release one pony "home" with each series. The Nightmare Night twist is a surprise, but the long, long LONG overdue appearance of Scoots and Applebloom (even if fans will probably need to buy two copies of at least the latter in order to remove the costume parts to get to the regular pony underneath!) more than make up for that. Right, so this means we're just missing homes for Rarity, Dashie and Fluttershy. However - we now have a problem. Twilie's set not only has Spike, but also Owlowiscious. This continues from Gummy appearing in the Pinkie Pie set... But where's Winona? Just out of curiosity, is there any means through which a few fans can contact Hasbro and ask for Winona to be added to the hopefully-already-planned Fluttershy set, due to release sometime in the next 2-3 years, so we aren't left with a final result of 5 out of the 6 Mane pets?? It would be really irritating to get Angel, Tank and Opal but not have a Winona...

Well I guess they can't all be great, and putting this episode after Slice of Life was a clever way to get it quickly out the way without causing too much disappointment. I hate how Spike is always used for obvious life lesson nonsense, he's much smarter and wiser in episodes when he isn't the focus. Looking forward to the next episode so I can forget about how bad this one was.

I kinda don't get all these drama type comments about catering to the fandom and there being a small target audience. I just watch the show and collect merchandise, I don't get involved in other stuff like fanfics, etc. However, I can still totally see where all the fun sections of the episode came from and why each was both awesome and funny. It reminded me of awesome crossover episodes from other shows (e.g. the He-Man/She-Ra movie where Skeletor turns hero), or a good non-cynical episode of something like Robot Chicken, or the recent Kung Fury movie. A wonderfully clever payoff to a large number of in-jokes that have built up within the show over the years, with some hilarious surprises mixed in. It was like the show became unglued for one episode, harkening back to the wilder days of the best "Cartoon Cartoons" like Powerpuff Girls and Johnny Bravo. I'm really happy and grateful that this was made, a lot of good shows don't get to do something like this before ending.
