  1. Badge pick-up will begin Friday morning. We'll have reg hours posted on our events page soon so you can plan your transport to the con..

As for this year's reg desk, it will be in an area of the hotel lobby located outside of the Grand Ballroom. There will be one line this year, but if you have pre-registered for the con, we will have a dedicated line runner who can pull you out and take you to the cashiers' desk. New attendees will need to register at the terminals we'll have set up to register for walk-in passes. You will receive your badge and any extras you have paid for at the cashiers' table.

Please note that you will need the following items in order to complete registration:

    • Valid photo ID: Driver's licence, Provincial/State ID or Passport
    • Written parental consent for attendees aged 12-16.
    • Cash, preferably in Canadian. We do accept American at face value, but there will be an ATM available inside the lobby.
  2. In my short years of owning a Wii and Gaming Laptop, there have been several levels and bosses that have brought my piss to a boil. "The Perfect Run" from Mario Galaxy 2. The Jungle Zone boss in Sonic 2 Master System. Shy Guy Beach in Mario Kart Wii. TF2's HELLTOWER. I really have a sore spot for these levels.

But there's one boss that drove me insane so much when I played it the first time, I get the urge to walk up to my screen and smash it with my fist.

    Skyward Sword's Tentalus.

    Sword_3752.jpg

Abyssal? More like ABYSMAL Not only is this boss bland as all hell, he's ridiculously annoying with his arms flailing all over and making me lose my patience trying to get him to reveal himself. The aiming mechanics of the bow did not help matters in the slightest, and he has a really bad habit of grabbing me right from behind while I'm busy trying to get rid of the stupid tentacles. And don't get me started on the eye. Just don't.

I've died to this a-hole so many times, I can't even beat the boss rush mode because of him.

BURN IN HELL, YOU MUMBLING ABOMINATION!!!

  3. I've been playing New Leaf since January, and I've been loving it. Such a relaxing game, something I've been needing for a long time. One of these days I want to give the GameCube version a go.

Friend Code is 4527-8904-4489. I'm only taking visits by appointment only!

Kentari's current Dream Code is 5400-4224-8043

  4. I just checked this site for the contest address and I see that the deadline has been extended.

How picky are you on the 5000 word rule? I have time to edit now.

    Dusty Miller.

If you've got a few extra words past 5000, that's fine. You have up to 100 words of breathing room. There's only so much space I've reserved for the story in the con book, you understand. ^^

  5. SO we will be able to compete to be in a BronyCAN writing contest. but do I have to go there to do it because that is thousands of miles away from where I live! If I do can I be there on video or something because i can't afford that. I'll try!

    As I said earlier:

    No, anyone entering this contest does not have to attend. If we wanted that to happen, we would've offered a pass as the big prize! ^^;

So no, you don't have to go.

  6. I got mine sent in on time :) How long will we have to wait until we know if we won or not? Will we get an email, or will there just be an announcement? If anything at all.

The winner will receive an email from me to take care of prize shipping details.

Also, just so people have enough time to prepare their entries, we're extending this contest a week. You now have until Monday, July 14th to submit your stories!

Whether you’d like to give a courteous bow or applaud wildly for our latest guest of honor, we know you’ll be as thrilled as we are to welcome Nicole Oliver, the loving voice behind everyone’s favorite princess of the sun and Ponyville schoolteacher! This talented woman is ready to share the spotlight with our very own princess of Canada! With the threat of a Changeling takeover looming over us this year, her presence will most definitely be appreciated!

Nicole Oliver has worked for over twenty years in the entertainment industry as an actor, producer, and director. Ms. Oliver has been nominated by her peers for several Leo Awards for her work on both the small and big screen and just recently won the UBCP/ACTRA award for Best Voice for her work in animation. She is the recipient of both the Founders Award for leadership and sustainability and the Chancellors Award for highest academic achievement. The multifaceted Ms. Oliver is in high demand in the television, feature film, animation, video games and more. She has provided her voice-over expertise to innumerable animation programs such as Littlest Pet Shop, Strawberry Shortcake and the Barbie franchise, though fans of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic know her best for her roles as Princess Celestia and Cheerilee.

  8. I might try at this.

I want to write.I liked wanting to write since as a child but I had writers block and could not finish a story to put in my school library in the past.

But if a winning writer gets a con book and a elcusive t-shirt does that mean they have to be at the con? if so that means I should not write for that contest since my dad can't afford to get me to go to the con.

    No, anyone entering this contest does not have to attend. If we wanted that to happen, we would've offered a pass as the big prize! ^^;

  9. Are Queen Vulocris and Princess Apricity just names, or this there some previous literature or background knowledge I need before I write this?

    Yes, that's what I'm wondering.

I'm a bit confused here on what we need to write about; from what I can see, we need to write a Canadian (pony)'s point of view during the invasion of Queen Vulocris.

However, I'm not sure who Queen Vulocris is, nor Princess Apricity; are they part of a fan-fiction?

Is there a background story we need to know? Is there a link to the fan-fictions (and/or videos) before the invasion?

I would imagine that there's other pieces of literature before this; do you happen to have a link?

So far, I'm not even sure who Vulocris' brood is; letalone to make references to them.

Also, the Canadian residents are supposed to be ponies in the story, correct?

I'm sorry, I'm just completely clueless on the background story of this.

[EDIT] I tried searching the characters up on the web, but I got absolutely no results no matter how much I tried.

-- I finally got some results on Princess Apricity and Queen Vulocris. I'm guessing that the invasion is like Queen Chrysalis' invasion, correct? (Just with different characters?)

If not, please let me know.

(Also, I still haven't found any notable information about either of them; just the characters' images.)

Sorry if I seem a bit confused here.

    Queen Vulocris:

    Princess Apricity:

Like I said before, the invasion is being covered by our comic from our Tumblr. You can catch up on the story here on the BronyCAN website. For more on Apricity, view the blog from the beginning.

As for characters, they don't necessarily have to be ponies. Like I said in the original post:

Canada is known as a country of acceptance, regardless of who they are or where they come from. Ponies, gryphons, moose, mules, and yes, even changelings, just to name a few.

So you can choose whichever species you prefer to use.

  10. Played the early hours of the update and had quite a few run-ins with B.A.S.E. Jumpers. You'd think with a slower decent it'd be easier to get some airshots off, right? WRONG. They can be so high up even the most skilled demo or solider can have trouble taking them out. Especially since they can strafe out of the way. And when there's so much crap coming you way below him, you're even more screwed. I've just found my new favorite annoying mechanic...

  11. We have your application in our records, and we do have someone who will be contacting you very soon. We apologize for the long wait time.

  12. Vancouver (or Vanhoover for the pony-inclined) is a city that’s special for its beautiful scenery, lively and diverse community, and bustling arts scene. On top of those qualities however, it is also where My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is produced at DHX Media/Vancouver by a crew of wonderfully talented directors, artists, musicians, and more! BronyCAN is very fortunate and honored to announce that we will have key staff from the show attending our convention this year, to talk about their work and share their experiences with the attendees!

Directors Jayson Thiessen and ‘Big’ Jim Miller will be attending BronyCAN to share their stories about supervising and directing the show from its humble beginnings, while Steph Mahoney (Layout Supervisor/Animator) and Christopher Leinonen (Layout/Posing Supervisor) will be around to answer questions about what it’s like to draw and animate the show! We will be gathering our honored guests from DHX to participate in a production panel to showcase the work that goes into the show like you’ve never seen or heard before!

    Read more about them below:

    Jayson Thiessen
Television Series Director / Co-Executive Producer / Animator

    img-2751832-1-tumblr_n7ciw980MF1rjoad7o2

Jayson Thiessen was raised in western Canada on a healthy cartoon diet of Looney Tunes, Disney and 80’s Saturday morning shows. His love of the animated medium spawned a desperate desire to draw and create, filling numerous sketchbooks with silly cartoon ideas and characters. Ever since 1998, he has worked in the Vancouver animation industry starting as a classical animator, then transitioning to digital Flash animation and working his way up the ranks to become a Director. In 2009 he took on the role of Supervising Director for the latest incarnation of the Hasbro series, “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” and applied his complete love and attention towards the show, which went on to become a runaway cult sensation around the world. In 2012, Jayson directed the spinoff My Little Pony movie; “Equestria Girls” which debuted at the LA film festival in 2013. He was later elevated to Co-Executive Producer on the series and continues to direct the latest season. He also appears as a guest speaker at various fan and industry conventions, where he talks about his experiences and expertise in animation production and directing.

    Big Jim Miller
    Co-Director

    img-2751832-2-tumblr_n7ciw980MF1rjoad7o3

Big Jim Miller is a storyboard artist, cartoonist, director and improvisor living in Vancouver, BC, Canada. He has worked primarily as a storyboard artist, most notably for 10 years at a.k.a. Cartoon Inc. on Cartoon Network’s ‘Ed, Edd n’ Eddy’, where he was a part of all 5 seasons, the 3 holiday specials and the tv movie. He has also done storyboard work on ‘Kid Vs. Kat’, Capcom’s 'Dead Rising 3’ and the Hub’s ‘My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic”. After starting on MLP, he has since moved on to storyboard supervising seasons 2 and 3 of that series, as well as the 'Equestria Girls’ direct to DVD movie. Season 4 of MLP saw Jim promoted to co-director, episodes of which are currently airing on the Hub Network. You can also see his work on the comic strip ‘Mystery: Solved!’ available bi-monthly in Skeptical Inquirer magazine.

    Stephanie Mahoney
    Layout Supervisor/Animator

    img-2751832-3-tumblr_n7ciw980MF1rjoad7o4

Steph has been in the animation industry for 9 years. She’s had the privilege to work on shows such as Atomic Betty, Ruby Gloom, Kid vs. Kat, Pound Puppies and of course My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. She has been at DHX Media since 2008. When she heard about the possibility of working on MLP, she pestered Jayson until she was locked into animating on Season 1. On Seasons 2 and 3 she was in the Layout/Posing department. In Season 4 she went on to supervise Layout/Posing.

Steph has been an avid Con-goer and cosplayer for 14 years but this will be her first appearance as a guest.

    Christopher Leinonen
    Layout/Posing Supervisor

    img-2751832-4-tumblr_n7ciw980MF1rjoad7o1

Christopher has been in the animation biz since 2007, and at DHX since 2008 (back when it was Studio B). He started on Season 1 of MLP as a Layout/Posing Artist, and was a Layout/Posing Supervisor on Seasons 2 and 4. Other shows he’s worked on include “Kid vs Kat” and “Packages from Planet X”. When not ponying or engaging in armchair radicalism, he sometimes makes comics with the Cloudscape Comics Society (www.cloudscapecomics.com), a group of independent Vancouver comic artists. His work has been published in four of their annual anthologies.

  13. I would like to know more about these characters and where they come from and why they are invading Canada. I don't think anyone would tolerate an invasion though. That's my opinion. I don't know anything about the average Canadian citizen and I probably don't have to in order to make the prior statement.

The invasion is being covered by our comic from our Tumblr. You can catch up on the story here on the BronyCAN website.

  14. Okay, I heard about the new series coming out, but this move took me by surprise. Before this you'd have to grind your way through the so-overly-90s DiC and so-close-and-yet-so-far Cloverdale dubs. And trust me, that's not as easy as it sounds, especially for the uninitiated.

Regardless, I'm curious on how this'll turn out, 'cause they'll be showing episodes that never got dubbed before, including a lost one with a dinosaur for some reason. Yeah, I don't get it either. And unedited, too. I can hear pen nubs rubbing on those tablets as we speak.

Though seeing as I'm in Canada, people like me might get the short end of the stick, 'cause I'm getting this message on Viz's streaming page:

For our members & fans in Canada:

We will soon have an announcement as to
how you too will be able to access all of the
    great Neon Alley content
    for free!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this supposed to be an "international" release? I'm pretty sure North America is comprised of both the US and Canada...

  15. The MLP community is well known for its abundance of astounding fan-written stories based on the series. From ongoing adventures like Fallout: Equestria to short silliness such as Bureaucracy is Magic to timeless epics as It’s a Dangerous Business, Going out your Door. Hundreds of stories go through Equestria Daily’s pre-readers every week, but only a select few get chosen to be in the spotlight. Whether or not they read, people can’t help but wonder what these creative storytellers are sharing with the world.

BronyCAN is giving you a chance to put your writing skills to the test: Canada is known as a country of acceptance, regardless of who they are or where they come from. Ponies, gryphons, moose, mules, and yes, even changelings, just to name a few. Many have voiced their opinion on the invasion in BC, but what side do they truly take? Do they fight for Queen Volucris and her brood of Arctic Changelings? Will they seek to end her reign of terror by siding with Princess Apricity and the Provincial Ponies? Or would they rather stay out of it and try to live their life as best as possible. Whatever the decision, it’s your task to lead them to it.

In this contest, share a 5000-word short story of a Canadian resident and what part they play (or not) in the invasion.

Here are the rules you’ll need to follow:

    • Keep it PG. No excessive violence, foul language, references to sex, alcohol or drugs.

    • You can include a small 600x600 pixel drawing to go with it. Again, keep it PG please.

    • References to Queen Volucris’ brood are allowed, but keep them minimal. The focus should be on the resident(s) decision making.

    • One entry per person please. It must be written by you alone.

The winning writer will have their story printed in our con book, and will also receive an exclusive t-shirt!

To enter, attach a Word or OpenOffice document containing your story to an email directed to Publishing@BronyCAN.ca. It’s recommended that you write the subject line as “BronyCAN Writing Contest Entry”. Please note that files will only be accepted in .doc, .docx, .odt or .rtf formats.

Submissions will close Monday, July 7, 2014, July 14, 2014

Best of luck to all entrants!
