    books The Book Thread

Yes, this is the book series that the Lightning Thief movie was based on. But don't watch the movie, at least not first. They really really did a disappointing job on the movie. So much was left out, things were changed. It made me sad. The books are awesome though. They cover the adventures of a group of demigods who meet at a place called Camp Half-Blood. It's a lot like Hogwarts, but for children of the gods, rather than wizards. Get a copy of Lightning Thief and read it, I'm sure you'll love it.

    books The Book Thread

I just finished reading the latest Percy Jackson book, The Son of Neptune, by Rick Riordan. Very good stuff right there. It's aimed at the 'young adult' audience, but hey if we can like MLP... For those who don't know, but might be interested, Percy Jackson is a modern fantasy series, much like Harry Potter, where the Greek gods of old are real and alive in the world today. They have migrated west with civilization and lurk in the shadows, influencing society like they always did in the past. There are monsters like Hydras, Minotarus, Cyclopes, and many more, and there are demigods, who are the heroes of the stories. Like Hercules of old, the main characters in the series are the half-children of the gods and have to fight a whole slue of enemies who are trying to overthrow civilization. It's some pretty epic stuff. I recommend it.
  4. Holy crap man, you are popular! By the way, I love your new sig. That is freaking awesome. You have admitted your robotness and are now pounding us over the heads with it.
  5. And yet Rainbow Dash still maintains close ties to Cloudsdale. In the Return of Harmony, it wasn't Ponyville's fate that tempted her to take up her wings and leave the labyrnth, but Cloudsdale's. Discord knew that Cloudsdale was the place most dear to her heart, and so it was that place he used to corrupt her by forcing her to choose which to give her loyalty to.
  6. You know guys, the truth is the good Captain Marvelous is actually a closet brony. He converted a long time ago, just hasn't told anyone. He's adopting the stoic 'curious outsider' approach, eager to spend as much time with the herd as he can, but cautious to admit any familial ties to us. He lurks around, comments, and has a good time, all behind the mask of non participation. That's all well and good really, he's harmless and just as entertaining to us as we are to him. So my advice is to just roll with him. Let him keep his mask on, he will feel more comfortable that way. And let me tell you, a comfortable performer is a happy performer, and a happy performer gives the best entertainment. So, Captain Marvelous, our dearest non brony member, have you ever seen anything so cute you just had to squee?

  8. Ah, ok. I didn't think to look at your thread as from the title I judged it was only for GIF problems, and I was uploading normal photos. Also, IE = yuck. I'll give it a try though. Edit: Ok it worked, although very slowly. At least I got my pics up.
  9. I'm getting an error message now when I try and upload photos to an existing album of mine. It says I've surpassed my upload limit, but then it goes on to say I have 'Unlimited' upload limit, so why is it contradicting itself? There's a thing in parentheses that says max upload 50MB but that's per upload right? And I'm starting a fresh upload, so that shouldn't apply. Not sure why it's not letting me do anything now... :?
  10. Getting my dad to help me with a pony project: priceless!

See my thread in Octavia's Hall. Halloween pumpkins. :)

  11. Hey everypony! I may not have much to contribute to digital art, but every year I'm big into pumpkin carving. It's a family tradition, just like birthday cake art (but that's another subject). Anyway, this year, being my first Halloween as a brony, I decided on a New Lunar Republic pumpkin design. The following are links to my new album showing our progress. Sorry some of the pics are a bit grainy, but it was a cheap camera. Pumpkin: $3.50 Projector: $150.00 Getting my dad, an ex navy vet, to work on a pony project with me: Priceless.
  12. This argument's still going on? I thought I settled it back on the first page. -_- Rarity is the 1%. She'd never make it. Fluttershy's too scared to be anything more than secretary of something. Really, Twilight's our best choice, even if she isn't perfect.
  13. Don't worry about it. He's too marvelous for us. Our mortal ears will never be able to truly understand his glorious words. Even I, before entering this thread, was under the impressing that WMG stood for Weapons of Mass Groping. I pictured in my humble mind a octopus bomb, that when it exploded would unleash a swarm of tentacles upon unsuspecting foes... Hmm, I should probably stop talking now. I'm getting unsavory ideas.
  14. In Soviet Equestria, new episodes wait for you!
  15. Is it wierd that I imagine you spanking a puppy with a rolled up newspaper while you say that?
  16. Well, I like studying characters. I'm not nearly as good at psycho-analyzing them as Pencils, but it is still a lot of fun. And it's necessary to be able to write a decent fanfic, to know your characters well.
  17. Well, let's break it down... Applejack: I'm sorry, but do we really need another president with a southern accent? One that would probably say 'nuculer' and end up in a war with the Buffalo over an apple orchard? Fluttershy: As much as I like her, we really don't need a president who's afraid of her own shadow. That's what we have France for. Pinkie Pie: Admittedly a genius (see Pencil's thread), her bubbly nature and constant partying would probably be a bit too much for most Americans to handle and could also risk offending foreign dignitaries who disapprove of 'raucus American partying.' She could possibly make a good Vice President. If Biden has taught us anything, it's that the role of the VP is to have fun and let the President clean up any mess that comes as a result. Twilight Sparkle: Overall the best choice I believe. She is level-headed and intelligent, well educated and kind. She is very goal-oriented and would have a definite plan for helping the country recover. No beating around the bush with pointless political rhetoric. She would make a checklist of steps to fix the country, then set about doing them. Of course, woa to us if she was ever late to a meeting. She could degenerate and start a nuclear war with Russia. But as long as she succeeds in her agenda I'm sure we'd have nothing to worry about. Rarity: The obvious economic choice, she would likely discover a deposit of gems somewhere and use them to boost the US economy. But she probably wouldn't be popular enough to stay in office, even if she fixes things, being who she is. She is the 1%. Rainbow Dash: She's hot-headed and eager for action. While these are admirable traits in an athlete, they're not so good in a political leader. She's the pony that flew into a dark cave and kicked a full grown dragon in the face. I would fear for US foreign policy with her in charge. We'd likely see our armies deployed around the world and start toppling bully dictators left and right. While this may be an admirable goal, it hasn't gone over so well for us in the past, and probably won't in the future. It's best to give that one a rest. Spike: The birthers would never let him win. Dragons aren't citizens.
  18. Similar situation here in that I can't view embedded videos on this computer either. But that's not because of parents or anything. I haven't lived with them for years. Actually most of my evening time here is from my work computer (I love my job), but their proxy settings do heavily limit my access. Like, youtube is blocked, facebook is blocked, most game sites are blocked. But luckily forums aren't! So yay.
  19. Something else to consider, along the lines of the Tragedy of Pinkie... There's a lot of speculation among the fan community, and quite a bit of evidence to support it, that Equestria used to be a cast based society. The Alicorns were and still are the ruling class possessing apparent immortality. The unicorns were the magi and nobility, based in Canterlot, attending the Royal Magic Academy. The Pegasi were the military cast, Celestia's royal bodyguard, and based in their own city of Cloudsdale to watch over the land from above. And the poor Earth Ponies were the simple commoners and farmers. While the cast system was likely abolished some time ago, there are still traces of it in Equestria today. Look at Ponyville; it was founded by earth ponies, most of them farmers or simple shop keepers. And we learn in Winter Wrap Up that the traditions of ending winter in Ponyville have roots that go back many years to its founding, when apparently magic was not allowed for them to use. Obviously things are different now, we have earth ponies like Hoity Toity to prove it. But not everything can change overnight. Tying this in with Pinkie Pie, she was born to a lowly family of rock farmers. She had no unicorn heritage, so she could never have been sent to Celestia's magical academy. She indeed had never even been to Canterlot, prior to the Gala. Neither could she fly so she couldn't go to Cloudsdale or hang out with the privileged Pegasi. She had to do everything on her own, the hard way. She wanted to learn, but couldn't go to the Academy, so she took to the library and read everything. She wanted to fly, but wasn't a pegasus, so she built a hot air balloon. She demonstrated overcoming the difficulties in a post-cast society by putting her mind to work and accomplishing everything she set as her goals in life. It is really inspirational when you think of it that way.
  20. You're not going to turn me into a bunny! No way, I ain't going anywhere near their carrot products. You don't know the horros that go on inside those secret bunny carrot factories. The mind control chemicals they put into the juice... just no.
  21. It took me too long to get that. Egads, I'm showing my age...
  22. Time for a party everypony, as of less than half an hour ago we've officially passed 300 members. A special credit to NicolaiB_92 for being #300. I figured what better place to mark this milestone so it doesn't get buried than here in the Administration Station. And to commemorate the occasion, a couple posters. 300 members? This is madness!!
