Ponies using swords has been canon since 1986 https://derpiboo.ru/329377 I don't see any reason they couldn't hold them in their mouths. We're talking about magical pastel ponies here. Also, horse teeth and jaws aren't week like human ones are, they wouldn't really have a problem with them.
