Okay, so, for those who have read Part I, you would know that I have attempted hypnosis of turning into a pony before.

For those who have not, there is a google document and thread going around talking about hypnosis into a pony. I thought I would try it.

The first time I tried it, there were some technical and focus issues; the volume wasn't loud enough, the audio was compressed to a pretty low quality, and I wasn't in a ergonomically neutral position, so my trance broke.

Now, I have tried it again. Three times actually, for three different things.

First and foremost, after dealing with some family stuff yesterday, I scrounged up the time at night to try Fluttershy again. This time, I used the same file, and was in a more neutral position.

Basically, it didn't work at all this time.

Firstly, even though I jacked up the volume to near max, the compression on the file still made it really difficult to hear exactly what the Fluttershy 3.0 version narrator was saying. So that kinda corrupted my induction and made it harder to focus.

Secondly, my cat kept on jumping on and off the bad and sleeping next to me, so that entirely broke my induction before I even got to the hooves part. Bummer.

Today, I thought maybe I would try to secure a better understanding of getting inducted into a trance and getting suggestible more easily, so I collected all the important files; suggestibility aid, trance aid, deprogramming, and a helluva lot more pony hypnosis files for Twilight, Rarity, and the old Fluttershy 2.0 since I think it has better audio.

First, I tried the perfectly suggestible file. This greatly helped but I did it during the daylight so the effect didn't stick at all; the light would pierce my eyelids and remind me of my conscious self. I did eventually fall into a full trance and then became suggestible but it broke as soon as the file ended because of a volume change from one file to the next.

Then, I thought I would try a simpler body-focused hypnosis for Pony Ears.

This one was not as well paced as the actual pony files; it jumped way too fast into induction and kept on using the word "trance" which is strange because AFAIK you're not really supposed to use that but once or twice on a person you're inducting, so it made it hard to concentrate.

It also like ran straight into the ears transformation much to quickly. Even though I was much more relaxed and suggestible, I just couldn't force my sensory perception to change that fast. I did feel many of the sensations he described like the ears moving up my head and growing fur but they were weak, immediately erased by both the sensation of my headphones on my regular ears and the narrator's suggestion to touch them which would require physical movement, which would of course break the trance if one was not entirely suggestible.

I didn't touch them, but my trance broke by the time the file ended anyways and I couldn't even summon the effect on queue again. Disappointment.

This time I am going to try the Twilight Sparkle version, because my personality is greatly closer to hers and a horn must be significantly easier than wings to summon. I also have a different narrator for this.

But yes, these experiences were not as promising as before. I may end up trying to use another bed or lay on the floor or something, because I need to find a way to get completely into the trance like I did last time and my current situation isn't cutting it.

Some of the narrations on these files are kind of weak, too. Even though I'm a complete novice I just feel that they go way too fast for a good, solid induction to happen. I might end up looping the intros to the files myself in an audio program to make it significantly longer so I can have more time to be suggestible.

All in all, it's a worthwhile experience if you're interested, but it sure is a pain in the ass to get everything in working order, and it takes a ton of concentration, focus, and a good environment to really get anything interesting in terms of effects.

So wish me luck in the Twilight Sparkle induction. I hope this one works better than Fluttershy.

Before I head off to my absolutely (NOT) wonderful Philosophy: Ethics course for the morning, I thought I would post here about the alleged ponification hypnosis thing that's been going around.

I tried it yesterday, last night, about an hour before I went to sleep.

For those who do not know, the aim of these files are to hypnotize you into the state of having a personality and body image more inline with whatever pony you attempt to become.

Let me just start off with the simple statement: it works.

    At least, to some degree.

Firstly, as for the technical stuff, the hypnosis voices dubbed over the tracks are very well done in terms of content, speed, phrasing, the pauses, etc., but the audio isn't so great on the Fluttershy one. I thought I had it at about the right volume but it gets a little quieter partway through and I didn't want to break my entrance into the trance just to turn it up, so even if it feels a little loud, you may want to turn it up a bit.

Secondly, my personal experience made me unable to finish the track. As I was going through it, I resisted a bit but once it got down to the countdown I forced my way through the body relaxation and forewent control of my limbs. This part can be very difficult, especially if your movements are restless like me. However, I recommend fighting against the urge to move. If you are susceptible to hypnosis, you will get to the point where your restlessness leaves you.

Once I got past that, though, I realized that the volume wasn't high enough, so I had to struggle to listen to what the narrator was saying, since he talks a bit strangely. That weakened my trance.

Finally, my body was starting to overheat since I didn't have the ceiling fan on and I was completely covered by my blanket, something I don't do often, but what really broke my trance was that I realized I wasn't in a perfectly neutral position, and my neck started to ache ever so slightly. It became so annoying that I had to move, and then my trance broke instantly.

Now, for what the trance is like; it is extremely peaceful. I have been the subject of hypnosis before and it has never worked on me at any point, so I assumed that I would not be susceptible at all. That is not the case; in fact, the idea of susceptibility may not be entirely true. It is possible that everyone can be hypnotized, and only those who are "immune" are those who are going about it via the wrong methods.

I easily fell into this trance only after fifteen minutes.

After the body trance, the part where it moves to the ponification is a little rushed. I felt like the images of changing your body into what he describes were moving too fast, and that my own body image wasn't changing fast enough.

It wasn't, but surprisingly enough, the few changes I made it through lasted even after I broke through my trance, until I fell asleep thirty minutes later.

I felt the shape of my spine contouring to that of an equine, and although my arms felt mostly normal aside from a newfound fluidity in movement, I could feel a strange sensation of both shortness and strength in my legs. It was as if I had perfect control of them in entirety, much more than a human could achieve, and all the senses that touched my legs were changed into things more smooth, as if I had another layer of skin.

Sadly, the image of wings were the hardest and I felt almost nothing, and by the time it got to changing the skin into having a coat of soft fur, I was about to break.

As for the personality changes, those were the hardest. I am already compassionate but not very loving, and thus it was very difficult to open up to the suggestions that I become loving of all things, especially woodland creatures and friends that I don't really have (since I don't even have six friends after I moved to university), but I did feel at ease and more nurturing than I would have before. The track may have moved too fast in that respect, and jumped to the body metamorphosis too quickly.

Overall, I will definitely try it again tonight, especially since I don't really have anything but a small engagement tomorrow, and hope that I get further.

For those interested, search the hypnosis thread. It has the main document, which links to the files.

I cannot speak to the quality of the hypnosis files other than Fluttershy, since that's the only one I used.

So, while I have not written a report on my hypnotic findings in a few days, I have still been doing it multiple times per day, so do not fret.

For those unaware, I have been using the files in the infamous Pony Hypnosis Document, which is located in a searchable thread here on MLPForums.

So, in my first few attempts that produced few results, I used the Fluttershy 3.0 edited file with BGM. These attempts, while obviously unsuccessful because I had just started learning hypno then, still produced a few effects, the most notable of which were changes in the proprioception (basically, spatial feeling) of my legs and spine, although these were short lived.

Afterwards, I attempted to learn my own induction techniques and also try the Pony Ears hypnosis. Neither of these were successful for the most part.

Now, for the last few days, I have been experiencing a few strange effects. First and foremost, I went back to the Fluttershy 2.0 file since I loathe the bad audio compression on 3.0. This was a colossal mistake. The script is much faster, the BGM was more distracting than inducting, and while the voice is better, the binaural frequency in the background, if I recall correctly, is delta instead of theta. All this did was make it hard for me to sleep, and when I did sleep later, I woke up feeling as if I had never slept at all, just as tired as the night before.

So, I decided to go back to the 3.0 last night

    This produced significantly stranger results than I anticipated. Firstly, I was inducted way faster than before, and was even able to remain in focus despite my cat's repeated bouts of meowing. Secondly, I don't recall exactly what happened but one of two things did occur;

    1. I fell into a low-level sleep during the file's playing. While it seems more statistically likely, I am not sure that this is what happened.
    2. I fell into an actual trance state. I have a feeling that this is what probably happened, for the following reasons;

After a while, I lost consciousness to one of the two aforementioned things. When I awoke, I had not moved at all, (I always move a lot when I sleep), I would later find out that I had been unconscious for over twenty minutes, and I had the absolutely strangest sensation that I have ever had in my arms before.

I am not sure what suggestion in the hypnosis caused this; it was probably either the arms changing into hooves, or the coat growing on the skin, but either way, when my trance broke for some unknown reason, my arms felt like they were buzzing with electricity. I had the most urgent desire to move them, as if to break some sort of spell that had been cast upon them; I have a feeling that if I had resisted the urge, I probably could have gone back into my pure trance state and induced even more changes, but at this point I was really tired and probably about to go to actual sleep anyways, so I let into the urge and moved my arms, breaking my now-weak induction.

I quickly turned off the file, for the binaural theta frequency was causing strange sensations in my ears and making a few of my muscles spasm, and once all of those sensations were gone, I turned over and actually slept normally.

I awoke very tired this morning, but not as tired as when I used the 2.0 file, and decided to sleep a bit longer. When I woke up, everything seemed as if normal, and I had no issues getting ready to go to my earliest class of the week.

However, I did notice that I, for reasons that were not apparent to me until later, unconsciously resisted the urge to speak to anyone, even those I was passingly familiar with, and did not actually speak to another person much later in the day. When I did, I felt as if another of the suggestions had broke; perhaps the file was indeed making me more shy and reserved.

So I will debate what I shall do tonight. I will definitely attempt the hypnosis earlier in the night, so that I don't have to worry about falling asleep, but I do feel that perhaps I should change the file to another pony, since I already have a high degree of social anxiety and thus should not exacerbate it with hypnosis that turns my personality more towards a severely introverted and shy character.

Sadly, this means I will have to give up my wings, since there is no way in hell I am doing a Rainbow Dash file. Gross.

Of course, not doing a pegasus means that a bit of the work I have done learning to get inducted will be undone, but as long as I use files with the same binaural frequencies, and similar inductions, I have a feeling that this will only be a very minor setback.

Just archiving this since I spent so much damn time on it.

Hm. While I agree with the general sentiment that it happens in any fandom, there definitely is a larger portion than normal of fans who can get a bit out of hand with their zeal for the show, along with a greatly larger number of people who are into pornographic and violent depictions of the characters than any other fandom I've seen before.

There is r34 of everything ever, but there is probably a whole petabyte (exaggerated, but it's probably really somewhere around 350 tb at the very least of it floating around) of violent and sexual content involving MLP. It's just so much easier to find than anything else because it spills into other websites and people make whole groups and extremely popular sites for it. That's a phenomenon that I really haven't seen with any other fandom ever.

Does that mean I don't like the fandom for it? No. I have both learned about and developed my own theories of sexuality and to be honest clopping really does not bother me at all. I wouldn't do it myself but it's just a natural outgrowth of at first identifying with the complex personas of characters and focusing that into a sexual attraction, and then later on it become so normalized so as to spread to non-personified characters, just out of sexual preference. Anyone with an open mind and a background in psychology and sociology can see the way this phenomenon develops.

What really bothers me is violent content. The double-standard in our society, that's inevitably a product of western christian ideals is that violence is somehow more condonable than sexuality, which is stupid, since sexuality is a normal human behavior and violence is not. The violent content of MLP is actually disturbing relative to the sexual content because violence and representations of it in media are harmful outgrowths of negative emotions rather than possibly harmful outgrowths of normalized or even positive emotions like sexuality.

That's where I draw the line, and it is definitely what bothers me as a member of the fandom, and I can see why it bothers parents. Using violence as a method of corrupting the nature of the show, is, in most cases, pretty denigrating to the meaning of the show and kind of pointless, not to mention distasteful in general. There are a few exceptions, where the violence transcends the medium itself, but these are very rare and usually also involve a degree and quality of humor as well, along with an intention of irony and an understanding of its mechanism. (PONY.MOV is a good example of violence that doesn't detract too much from the work itself)

Should Hasbro pull C&D on everything because of it? Obviously not. The amount of positive and SFW fanworks are still vast and deep in number and scope so not only is there no reason to but it's also physically impossible. Should parents stop their kids from watching MLP? No, especially not if their kids don't hang around on the internet all that much so they don't even have the opportunity to interact with the supposedly "corrupting" bronies or whatever.

But parents are parents. Once you become a parent it's pretty hard to keep your head on straight about anything that could even remotely involve your child, since you have donated your genes to a creation of your physical body that is basically a part of you in someone else. You're automatically going to do everything you can to protect your child(ren) and I won't get mad at people for going at great lengths to do so as long as they aren't harming anyone else in the process.

And that's why, at the end of the day, this phenomenon is WRONG. It is insulting to both honest, hardworking, and innocent bronies and pegasisters to assume that either they corrupt the show and all who touch it or that they are "pedophiles" or "hostile homosexuals" or what have you. It is also insulting to the intelligence of the children who they should be instilling the ability to tell right from wrong in.

Finally, it is insulting to all of those who have worked damn hard on making this show what it is; the first truly genre-transcending, feminist, and non-essentialist children's television show for both girls and boys, and men and women of all ages who can also appreciate the quality.

tl;dr i agree the fandom has more problems than usual but the show is still good and parents who have bad judgment are insulting everyone including their children

On the origins of magic in MLP: FiM

If you really wanted to be pulling at straws and give a pseudo-scientific explanation, you could probably say that the essence of life that exists of its own accord (i.e. sentience) and its subsequent perception of a physical reality could be in a sense, a form of magic, since no other organism can experience another organism's perception directly, thus allowing one to "change" the fabric of reality from the singular viewpoint one possesses.

Okay. So back to MLP. If I had to guess I would propose two sources.

First, a generic "fantasy" sort of magic that comes from life, or crystals, or deities, or the sun, or something. In this case, it's a kid's show, so we don't need to get into details there.

Secondly, if we wanted to reach into epileptic trees territory, one could probably justify the theory that Equestria is a post-apocalyptic Earth tens of thousands of years after humanity (and thus the EqG portal is a time machine rather than a direct portal. Bam!), and the magic and anomalous effects we see (cutie marks et al.) are actually the results of biological nanomachines produced in the horns of the unicorn variety of ponies.

The ponies themselves are genetic mutations of animals. Because of the docile and friendly nature of horses and the lackadaisical and slacking nature of dragons, the ponies with their powers of flight, strength, and magic, outlasted most of the other forms of life, and because of their genetic mutations (read: genetically modified to have sentience) created their own society based around their in-borne genetic abilities.

You could explain the strength and communication-wth-animals abilities of the Earth ponies with basic biological engineering of muscles, and the signalling of pheromones to other animals in order to gain their trust.

The pegasi, despite their small wings, actually use nanomachines and arrays of millions of microscopic static air fans embedded in their wings to fly. They control the clouds via electromagnetism radiated from their static fans, and the clouds they lay on condense at points of contact because of the EM field.

The unicorns use massive amounts of nanomachines to lift objects, change their molecular structure, or mutate other living things by infusing them with nanomachines.

I really got carried away with this theory. I actually like it more than I thought I would as I was writing it.

Anyways, yeah, magic is kinda arbitrary and nanomachines are cool or something.
