  1. I would take it in stride and just be like "Yeah but it's not a big deal. it's like one of 10,749,589,485,304 things I do." and hope no one from my family/circle of friends sees it. If they did and confronted me about it, I'd just act like they're crazy and it never happened. I'd also hope it would be Fox News so I can go on my characteristic post-leftist rant about mainstream conservative politics afterwards.
  2. If we're talking instant stuff, then I usually fry an egg (breaking the yolk, of course, because gooey yolk is gross as hell) to completion, and right before it's done I throw a bowl of already-hot water on it, either that I boiled before or just heated tap. Let that sizzle like crazy, cool down, then I turn the heat up to max to boil again, and throw in the noodles. I don't let the noodles get soft while they're boiling- instead, I take them out and into the bowl once they're just barely starting to get soft, throw the egg on top, and then drop the water they were on slowly on both into the bowl. This way, they don't get soggy, while still being able to be in piping hot water. Then I throw in the packet, some soy if I feel like it, and bam! Not-so-bad-for-you-anymore instant ramen. As for regular ramen, I have no clue. Never cooked it before, although I have been to a legit ramen and udon shop before, albeit foreeeeeever ago.
  3. Still glad you brought up the topics though. Also, simplification and generalization aren't bad. They're just rhetorical tools, useful at times, detrimental at others. C is a very complicated value. I still don't think we quite understand the mechanics. I don't think we will understand the mechanics until we can attain relativistic speeds at human-sized-structure scales
  4. I highly doubt the relativistic interpretation is a permanent conclusion. It's just another paradigmatic form of scientific thought, just like how newtonian mechanics have been usurped at certain interactional levels by quantum physics. It's not out of the realm of possibility for another relativistic mechanical system to arise in the near or distant future that disproves the speed of light being a limit. Of course, Cherenkov radiation presents a pretty damn good argument for the limit. I am not a physicist so I could not begin to propose a solution to our understanding in that manner. Aside from that, humans are indeed evolving. It is just that we no longer evolve due to environmental conditions but rather due to societal tendencies. For instance, humans are growing taller on average than they were before; of course, we can chalk that up to improved nutrition and medicine in that front, but we must keep in mind that at the very least the statistical significance of that cannot consume the entire discrepancy whole. It would not be far-fetched to say that our genes are moving towards taller and "more attractive" humans as social norms mold to fit and eventually determine the desired appearance of people and their offspring. As for ethnicities disappearing, you are indeed correct in noting that the different phenotypes mean nothing for abilities, but that does not change the fact that phenotypes are merging. As phenotypes merge and culture becomes less distinctly human and more distinctly geographical, some have argued that a "monoculture" will arise in a distant future where we eradicate our cultural differences by force, or let the course of social conglomeration do so naturally, and then "culture" will no longer exist as there will only be one form of it to define itself and no others. That's a pretty scary thought, so I wouldn't dismiss ethnicities and their inevitably intertwined phenotypes as completely arbitrary in the modern landscape of the world. tl;dr paradigmatic science is common and it can be shifted so don't worship relativity, humans are probably still evolving but not because of nature, and finally, phenotypes merging doesn't necessarily mean a good thing
  5. I believe there are two possible answers to this question. 1. Even when the fandom "cools down" and cons become greatly less popular, the existing cons will just piggyback off of larger, more popular cons, become an individual section of already-massive conventions like Comic Con and such. That would keep the show alive for a long time by itself, considering that even when it is out of production, the old-school and die-hard fans will convert a few people here and there to the cause, thus replacing those who leave over time. While the fandom would never return to its original size and height of production and admiration, it wouldn't die so immediately. 2. We get a Star Trek-type deal where the new generations are as or even more quality than the original product (or, in our case, the generation 4 that started the quality) and thus this continues interest and fan labor in a similar amount. While the fandom would expand and contract between these new generations, and eventually slowly contract due to lessening interest as other media becomes popular, it'd still maintain a large enough mass to continue to host its own cons and such. 3. Either way, cons aren't dying, and the fandom will be around as long as it needs to be. Trekkies are still going hard. Overall, in the foreseeable future, there will be large, sizable, and quality conventions for a minimum of two years to come; one year post-season 4, and one year after that. If there's a season five, it will continue on in stride. Either way, you still have some time to get there. I mean, I'm already an adult and I still don't have resources to go to a con, and I also don't have anyone to go with me, so it's not just the young'uns waiting around for their opportunity, lol. tl;dr there will be cons for a while and probably for a long while, and all sorts of people want to go to them, me included
  6. I have fond memories of the game, playing it when I was much younger. In fact, it was the very first game I played that had nothing to do with nintendo. It's basically what introduced me to higher-concept RPG games that'd turn me into a much more serious gamer later on. The Xbox originals are frustrating because many of them were very good, but ignored, and they were also few in number, meaning that there was never an interest in developing a true xbox emulator. Work is STILL being done on the only stable emulator, and it is not anywhere near to completion. Although, to be fair, Dolphin's emulation of GC games isn't all that great either, and those are in high demand, so emulation in general is a pain in the ass. Back to the topic, I recall that no person I have ever met has ever had a copy of Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles. While by no means truly rare, it is still uncommon. I also played the hell out of that game. The multiplayer was a rip-off though, what with the gameboy connection and such.
  7. The only particularly rare video game I ever owned was a dev company-copy of Azurik, one of the, imho, best platformer/rpg games on the original XBox. For some reason, all the critics hated and panned it, but the level designs were so ridiculously inventive and while the story and voice acting weren't the best, the sheer cinema of the narrative was unparalleled at that time. It also had some of the best graphics on the console. In fact, the graphics themselves were so uniquely programmed that they're nigh-impossible to emulate. The only way to play the game is to have an actual copy. I don't have my copy anymore. 13 years and 8 moves later and it up and vanished. If I ever find it, I'll play the hell out of it though.
  8. Joyce Manor- "Constant Headache" Not a huge fan of punk as a whole but Joyce Manor has a sound that draws me in to a ridiculous amount. This song is one of my favorites of all time. Never get tired of it. Freaking THANK YOU. None of these young'uns have a gotdamn idea what actual emo(tional hardcore) was, where it was located and when it was around. If it aint from DC, the Midwest, or the upstate North, then it ain't emo(tional hardcore). Plagiarists came along and stole all of the aesthetics of the first wave but trashed the actual emotion and musicianship, turning it into a laughable ball of angsty bullshit that has literally nothing to do with what it originally was. Sunny Day, Empire! Empire, American Football, more recently Brand New, etc., are all forms of the original first wave of emo(tional hardcore) or descendents thereof. Take a listen. You will immediately understand the difference from all of the crap considered "emo" today, and also recognize who post-punk was born out of the original emo(tional hardcore) music that is technically more complex, lyrically more potent, musically more layered, and artistically more complete. It's just better.
  9. Well I would suppose that the depiction has two layers: one of the original story and one of the context we can give it over time. In the first depiction, Job, while a true servant of the God who casts and and invokes misery upon misery, still remains wholly in devotion even if given infinite reasons not to. Of course, he does "grovel", but the point of that is to show that he understands the might of the being that has granted him life and existence, and a pretty damn good one as far as materials go. In the second depiction of Job the book and the person, we have come to both conclusions that A. Being of the old Testament and having no exposure to the mediation and eventual joyousness/splendor of the loving God that those who come later intend to appeal to, the God of old is more violent and "human" than the all-powerful, truly alien God that it becomes later on to those who lived in the days of the gospels, and even further down the line, to a God that to some people loves all beings even if cast in the shadow of God with no remorse, so there's a certain etiology of our understanding of what divinity is that Job can attest to. and of course B. that Job was never really even perfectly righteous and always consumed with his materiality instead of the glory of existence he comes to later realize, and also never had faith in his sons and blood like he did with God, and thus may have "deserved" to have what was granted to him with little cost taken away, costing all that he had, until he learned to truly appreciate his existence and what had been granted him in whole. Of course, I am not really a Christian, so my analysis may be too historical and textual and may not rely enough upon divinity and grace and all that jazz, but I would still allege that my points are at the very least, generally valid. tl;dr God in Job is different than God in Gospels et al., and Job probably wasn't really all that grateful to begin with
  10. I mean there isn't a specific age limit but hypnosis is very complicated and sometimes dangerous. Pony hypnosis isn't that bad but you never know what side effects a suggestion can have, especially when your psyche hasn't fully formed. Hypnosis can be fun and useful but it's not something to play around with unless you are really prepared for it. I'd say 15-16 is the earliest I'd ever tell anyone they could use hypnosis, but even then only if they've read a lot about it and know exactly what it is.
  11. I don't know your specific situation but this will pretty much only works with headphones, so I don't see how anyone could tell you were doing anything just by walking in. During hypnosis you just kinda lay there until you're fully suggested. Most people have to do it multiple times before they get even a few substantial effects, so for a while, mostly nothing will happen to you unless you're easily suggestible, and even then, no one would notice at night. Just some thoughts. EDIT: Woah wait, are you really not even 16 yet, judging from your profile? You shouldn't even be LOOKING at anything involving hypno. You are wayyyyyyyyyyyyy too young, even for something as innocent as pony hypno. It can be incredibly dangerous.
  12. Being a pseudo-Catholic, of which Catholics are known to not personally read the bible as much as other forms of Christianity, and not being a full one at that, I have read very little. Of what I had read, Job was by far the most interesting and valuable of it all. The idea of a monotheistic religion that believed that God was only good to devote a whole book to the idea that the good and authentic of man can still suffer despite the machinations of God is pretty damn genius considering its great age.
  13. Keep in mind that when you're doing alterations to the body's natural locomotion that you can severely damage your muscles and joints if you're not careful. I recommend timing yourself when you're running to make sure that you're just perceiving these changes and not actually physically manifesting them because if you are, you will injure your muscles and possibly yourself to a higher degree. Your body limits the range of motion, speed of motion, and perception of muscle pain during motion for these very reasons.
  14. If we're going to talk about canon then we have to acknowledge that ALL powers in the series are completely arbitrary and only exist and are subsequently weakened or strengthened by the needs of the plot and characterization. The most egregious example is Alicorn Princess Twilight Sparkle letting Sunset Shimmer get away with the crown in EqG. She could have just used her uh, GODLIKE magic powers to hold her up in the air and walk up to her, taking the crown and calling the guards and Celestia. The entire movie would have ended right there, lol. Plus there are probably almost a hundred other examples over the course of the show. Don't get me wrong, I love MLP and the world that has been built in it, but you have to admit, the writers have never been consistent in their characterization of powers at all.
  15. When I was little, Bongo Bongo in LoZ: Ocarina of Time scared the living daylights out of me. Actually, I hated the theme music and the sounds in the Shadow Temple so badly that I turned the game on silent and played the entire thing with no sound whatsoever. I was like 6, though. More recently, the final final final boss from Persona 4, EDIT: Now that I started thinking about PC games, I can't believe I forgot the terror that are all the enemies from S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Call of Pripyat. Pseudogiant and Bloodsuckers especially. Just look at the pseudogiant: Then, of course, the legendary bloodsuckers (they can turn invisible):
  16. I like this thread and some of the stuff on it. Maybe I'll get back into writing again since I haven't produced anything but rusty, lonely couplets in months. I guess I'll take a trip down memory lane and revisit some of my old junk... : "oil" Well, I can tell you that I have at least improved from that, or at least I hope so (to be fair, most of this were written with slam in mind, so they're probably better read verbally than mentally). I'll probably post something that doesn't blow in the near future, since I in theory should have truckloads of stuff to write about but haven't capitalized upon it since ever.
  17. I'd make the Hall of "Backdoors" from the Matrix so that I could entire a vast expanse of worlds ranging from the infinite multiverse variations of our current existence to all of the fictional ones that have ever existed and their respective multiverse variations. I'd also make this world to where merely thinking about the door in question brings you to the door.

Yeah I feel you. I've started reading all the other highly-rated Octavia fics but none of them are as good as University Days as far as I've read, which makes me sad.

  19. Silly little filly. Greatest rhyme ever. (University Days has taken over my life)

  20. I probably dumped 500 hours into that game. I played it since beta came out. I pick it up again every great once in a while but I don't have money for a legit copy so I cant go to any real servers don't know good servers to play on anymore. Playing alone gets boring, especially considering how long it takes to build things of interest. I would pick it up if I had people I could reliably play with, also using voice communication in the process since it's just so much better.
  21. I don't know if you live in the States, but in the US, Psychology is literally the worst possible degree to choose out of any of them. It is the most studied and granted degree, by a large margin, and thus has the highest unemployment rate out of any degree-related occupations by a factor of 2. Like, it's literally over 20% iirc the study that this information was in. Everyone thinks that psychology is valuable because it gives you "insight into the minds of others" or it's just plain "interesting" but in reality not only is it useless as an occupation unless you're insanely talented at metaphorically cracking people's heads open, but most people pursuing psychology that I've either met (including people in my own family) or talked to via the interwebz are simply not good enough at the discipline (and don't even really think about it as a discipline) to make a solid career out of it. In fact, I have a large helping of psychological issues myself, and so does my family, so we've gone the bout of professionals. From probably the 15+ people we've seen over the years, the best out of them were two self-starters that managed all of their things alone and did not join an office or someone else's practice. Of course, this takes a high degree of business sense as well, which is a valuable skill indeed. As for your remarks on engineering, that is true in general, although there are a ridiculous amount of types of engineering. Electrical and mechanical are the ones overpopulated. Civic, architectural, and biomedical are actually in decently high demand and will only continue to increase as the infrastructures of the United States crumbles, and as sedentary illnesses and other disabilities reach an all-time high, respectively.
  22. Hypno and then bed. Blah.

      Is that the pony hypno?

  23. Oh no, on a hypothetical horrific score ranging from 0-10 it's a solid 9. Pretty disgusting. I still stand by my previous statements in that it is garbage, a complete waste of space both on the internet and of the creator's talents.
  24. I always choose the Imperials, just because the Stormcloaks are hella racist and that's worse than holding dominion over a territory any day. Plus there's no way anyone would win against the Thalmor if they were all fractured into their smaller bickering divided realms. NO coordination at all. They'd be crushed. So it's a bit of a difficult decision but I think the balance is at least slightly tipped into the favor of the Imperials. The only reason I could see it otherwise is if you really like the concept of rebellion or something, and thus the Stormcloaks appeal to you by that nature.
