  1. I see. Also, sorry if this is a dumb question. I'm brand new to the series and have only seen one episode. Swarm of the Century.

I wouldn't say it's a "dumb question", exactly. You do know you have 5 seasons to catch up on, though... you lucky fish! :D Your question might have been answered by watching more episodes.

Yeah, they can pick up things & use most tools.  (They DON"T seem to have power tools, though).  In addition to other examples, in Pinkie's Pride, (Season 4) Pinkie gets a variety of jobs, including construction.

Sure, they have power tools, though. In Party of One, they were making construction sounds, right? We've seen jackhammers in Princess Spike, too.

  2. IMO, the technical name for it is "tactile telekinesis".  Think of it as being able to make their hooves selectively sticky.  As to "how effective is this?", it seems to vary widely.  Octavia is good enough to play the cello, Apple Bloom has trouble holding a pencil.  (At least, I recall seeing her holding one in her mouth to write)

This probably means a higher rate of disease, because they put things in their mouth.  A HIE might not like touching things like door knobs.  Also, if you like to eat don't watch the cook make dinner.

What about Carrot Cake changing his babies' nappies with his mouth??

  3. I was young, and thought I should have won a dance competition prize, but I probably didn't... so all my "cool moves" were probably as graceful as a tapdancing mammoth on a glacial lake.

If your life was a biographical movie, what would the title be?

  4. No, I wouldn't say so. I mean, in fanart, characters are entirely recognizable, but style, medium and artistic expression often go far afield from what would be considered "show accurate". Do what you like with your OC... just don't make it an alicorn who is more magical than Twilight, faster than Rainbow Dash, friendlier than Pinkie Pie, kinder than Fluttershy, etc. Otherwise, I'd say anything goes. :)

  5. I find it funny sometimes, despite myself. Mostly, though, it's lowest common denominator type humour, the kind which prides itself on taking cheap shots at easy targets, and lacking in basic wit. I don't take it seriously. Getting mad about it just makes it their victory. Reading it, I get the impression the main writer is a former member of this site who was banned, and is getting his childish revenge.

  6. Well, points taken. However, the ponies from her utopia did not exactly appeared out of nowhere neither. Some came from different places, looking for a place to be. Surely, they must have heard about Starlight or this location in Equestria from someplace, and decided to gather there. So, her cause or intentions should be a bit known, especially to those seeking a newer life outside the regular Equestrian one. And if one of those who decided not to join her cult, left, wouldn't or shouldn't they talk about it someplace. Something such as removing a cutie mark, is not exactly a common occurrence.

Yes, the Tirek event was recent. I think the ponies would question something as recent and big as his destruction of Equestria. Considering the memories of what they saw would still be etched in their minds.

And not exactly, it was obvious from the start that she wanted to expand her influence even further, and she saw Twilight as an opportunity to achieve just that, considering she's an alicorn princess. And that would be a huge propaganda boost if ever Twilight joined her cause.

And given how many attempts there have been on her life, IE: Tirek, Chrysallis, even Sombra, I think the message would have been clear to her that she has made a lot of enemies throughout her adventures with her friends. That is pretty much my stance on it. It was obvious she has a lot of enemies, and in the end, she feels so insecure cause she did not secure herself in the first place. She was basically a bit too overconfident in the safety of her own town, when that town gets attacked by pretty much anything.

I like the cut of your gib, sir. :) True, they might well talk about it. But remember that Starlight was deliberately flying under the radar - she claimed the Staff was the reason she could remove cutie marks, and also pretended she had used the staff to remove her own cutie mark. Whatever rumours resulted, wouldn't have immediately outed Starlight as being the one with the magic to remove cutie marks, so I still don't see why you should expect her level of strength to be common knowledge.

Rumours about Tirek and how he was defeated, were they to reach the village, doesn't mean Starlight would either know or accept that it was one group of friends who were the ones to beat him. Besides, most of the destruction was limited to Ponyville and / or Canterlot - quite far away from the village, I would suspect. Rumours are just that: rumours, and not to be taken as gospel truth without verification, which Starlight might or might not have been bothered to do.

As for attempts on her life, before Starlight, the only enemy who really made it personal to Twilight was Trixie. (Yes, I'm aware that technically, you could use the example of Chrysalis from the comic as another example of the villain making it personal, but I personally avoid using the comics to argue the show's plot points and I'll thank others to do the same) Finally, I'd point out that she is in the end a Princess of Friendship... having a constant group of body guards to keep away anyone who might be a threat would conflict with that a touch methinks.

  7. she just needs to be written better she seems to be sadly one of the more badly written character and twi's kindom wasn't exactly her fault it was more a last resort.

I appreciate that it's pretty hard to include a character that should by rights be an instant win condition for the good guys without somehow sidelining them, a la Worf. (PS - Yes, I just ruined your life. No, I don't feel sorry. :P) Still, badly written is as badly written does, so I can't really give her a free pass.

But man, did she ever get handed the Idiot Ball in Twilight's Kingdom. Sending out just barely reformed Discord to catch Tirek without any kind of assurance that he wouldn't be convinced to join forces with the villain - especially with the Elements of Harmony being out of the picture since the beginning of Season 4; creating a major magical imbalance by giving Twilight all the alicorn magic when she explicitly states that she sent Discord to catch Tirek precisely and exactly BECAUSE he could sense magical imbalances, thus making the gambit of giving Twi all the alicorn magic essentially useless after Discord's betrayal (Plus Daddy D knew of Twilight being the fourth alicorn princess already, so Twilight's secrecy was nullified from the get-go); forcing Twilight to keep the said gambit (of giving her all the alicorn magic) a secret from the rest of the Mane Six, when informing them and getting all of them to hide along with Twilight so they couldn't be used as hostages would have made much more sense... there is not a single move Celestia made in that episode that wasn't out-and-out stupid and/or doomed to fail. Sorry to Celestia fans, but that episode just left me utterly unable to credit P. Celly with the requisite horse-sense to hammer on her own horseshoes.

No wonder she let Twilight solve all the problems!
