I'm voting for Applejack. She, unlike that spiteful selfish Rarity, is true to her element. Rainbow Dash is a good pony but nothing like Applejack, even with her overprotective qualities. I, Silver Letter, am going for Applejack to win!

Well, the same guy posted here in the episode thread and on Equestria Daily. And people wonder why sometimes Rarity fans lash out at these people... :okiedokielokie:

 

Rarity just can't win for some people. If she had refused to help Sweetie, that same guy would have said that she is a bitch for not helping her little sister. If she just had improved some little things like this guy says she should have, check the seams and buttons, the dresses would have still looked terrible and Belle would have been a laughing stock. Would have been Rares fault too, clearly.

Rarity did what she did to help her sister. Sweets asked her for her help and was then nowhere to be seen to give Rarity instructions on HOW to make them better. She just gave Rarity her dresses and basically said to make them better, and she did just that. The dresses where such a mess that she couldn't really do much other than give them her own spin... Sweets first draft just had no concept to them, they where rags. I don't know what that guys problem is...

 

And if Sweets wanted to make everything herself so badly, why ask Rarity for help in the first place? Why let the dresses at her place for her to fix them? Why not just ask for suggestions and make the changes herself?

Rarity is a perfectionist, she does not fix things "a little bit".

And if I recall correctly, Scootaloo and Applebloom told Sweetie just before the play they had asked her to get Rarity's help with dresses weeks ago, implying that even THEY wanted Rarity to make the dresses. Sweetie Belle chose not to listen to her friends and made the dresses herself. So Rarity in NO way can be at fault here.

I absolutely LOVED this weeks episode! Rarity was awesome and was shown in a really good light, thank goodness. So no defending of her should be necessary.

But unfortunately there has to be someone who has to ruin everything. I ripped this from the comments section in a Youtube review of the episode:

"I think Sweetie's actions were justified, though, in spite of everyone claiming that they weren't. Rarity up and pulled a Suri on her sister, by taking designs that weren't hers and tailoring them to her own design and then taking all the credit for them. Sweetie never asked for the dresses to be redesigned, because she wanted to do things herself (which is why she put off on asking Rarity for help in the first place, and was so adamant on dong things herself) I feel annoyed that Rarity didn't learn a lesson about this, especially after "Rarity Takes Manehattan". I posted this in the episode topic but no one noticed and I would really like an explanation for it.

There's a massive pothole in this episode. How was Applebloom able to call Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo over and Applejack call Rarity over if neither of them left the house? Does equestria have phones or what? Because I far as I can remember, there has been no sign of long distance communication in Equestia besides letters.

I liked it, although Applejack acted way too overprotective that it became a bit annoying.

A lot of the respondents seem to be missing the point of the OP, which is that the *writers* seem to be forgetting that Sweetie Belle is good at singing.

 

And I agree. Not only do they use her singing voice less, there's Sleepless in Ponyville, where she sings "99 Buckets of Oats On the Wall" completely out of tune.

 

I think that an episode about performance and stage fright a la Filli Vanilli but featuring Sweetie Belle would have been a great idea.

Am i the only person who feels that Sweetie's talent in singing is being retconned by the writers?

Season 1, especially The Show Stoppers, somewhat establishes that Sweetie's talent may be singing, but the only thing that is stopping her from discovering it is her stage fright. She sings in several instances.

Then in season 2, the only moment she sings is in the Hearts and Hooves episode.

But in Season Three all of a sudden, not only does Sweetie not get a song, she doesn't even get a solo in the Bad Seed song whilst the other CMCs do.

And now in Season four, the absolute perfect plot for Sweetie Belle's singing talent and her problem with stage fright goes to Fluttershy! What a waste! I seriously can't believe that more people don't have a problem with Filli Vanilli not being a Sweetie episode. It would have been the perfect episode for her! Mind you, I did love the episode all the same, but come on, it should have been Sweetie Belle's!

Anyway, back to my main thoughts on the writers retconning Sweetie's talent, I've been thinking that they are doing this because singing doesn't seem to be all that big of a deal in Equestria. Everyone is able to sing pretty well, so maybe the writers feel that it isn't that much of a special talent.

Okay, I'm a massive Rarity fan, I love her to pieces, but this episode was TERRIBLE!!! ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE!!! It's like Rarity's Mysterious Mare Do Well where they made her act terribly OOC just for the sake of the plot. OK, Rarity having a crush on somepony is fine, but her changing the way she is just to impress him, and at the same time insulting one of her best friends along the way was just not the Rarity I know at all! I honestly don't believe that this is truely how Rarity would have reacted in this situation. She has too much self-confidence for that. I really do believe the writers have some sort of resentment against Rarity. Did they seriously not learn from MMDW?!

The writers' have completely ruined Rarity's streak of good episodes. I've already seen loads of people call this the worst episode of season 4 and even the whole series, and after Rarity takes Manehattan was sooooo good, it's a bit of a shame.

All I can pray for is that Rarity is never given any of these purely comedic episodes again. That just isn't her style.

As much as I like these figures and how well designed they are, I actually refuse to purchase jack from Funko since there isn't a Rarity one (or an AJ one, for that matter) anywhere to be found, but they load you down with stupid background characters like Bon Bon.

 

Bon Bon, but no Rarity or Applejack.

 

I find that wrong on far too many levels.

 

I want to buy these, but they just are so fuckin' stupid with the ponies they produce I refuse to.

 

Marketing schmarketing, don't tell me a Rarity figure wouldn't sell more than a fuggin' Bon Bon, Dr. Whooves, or Trixie figure.

Hey, another Rarity fan here!

I really disgusts me how Rarity gets so much undeserved hate simply because she's girly, but the thing that annoys me the most is when people call Rarity a spoiled brat. Like seriously, if they think Rarity's a spoiled brat, what the hell do they think Diamond Tiara is?! If you simply compare the two, Rarity looks like a saint!

Another thing that annoys me is when people constantly say that Rarity doesn't follow her element.

1. Who cares?

2. If she followed her element all the time, she would be a one-dimensional and boring character like the previous generations

3. All the other members of the main six go against their elements. People just never seem to notice because they simply assume that they follow them all the time.

4. People are nitpicking ever single thing she does because they want to hate her, but not the others because they want to like them.

Although Im actually quite amazed at how many MLP reviews and analysers have her as their favourite:

And there are many others analysers that at least like and respect her. I guess that they take the time to look into the show and all its characters that they realise that Rarity's a very complex character.

This guy just kept going on and on and on about Rarity's 'bad' points and i don't recall him mentioning any of her good points, which there are many of. he obviously doesn't know how to construct a good argument. And he insults Rarity fans by saying that he doesn't understand how we can like her, and that there are much better ponies that we could like such as the other members of the main six! He's basically dictating what ponies people are allowed to like!

To be honest I don't really care if the ponies go against their elements or not. It just seemed that so many other people do, that I felt it weird that nobody had mentioned this particular incident even though it was quite in your face for practically the whole episode. 

I guess it's just that people seem to hold Rarity on a much higher pedestal compared to everypony else, that if she does something bad just once she's all of a sudden a shallow, self-absorbed bitch. After all, pretty much all the threads I came across on here about ponies not following their elements, were almost always about Rarity and people continuously bitching about her.
