  1. As someone who has a BA in English Lit and an MA in Creative Writing, I have always been fascinated by the writing on the show. Each pony is so well-developed, and I love the themes and allusions.
  2. You are all awesome. Thank you so much!
  3. For me, it happened like this: I became aware of the reboot show sometime around 2012. What really exposed me was the YoVideoGames YouTube channel, and their Assist Me! series. There's a recurring joke there that Dr. Doom is a brony. One of their videos was his meltdown over the cancelled Fighting Is Magic game. I will admit my sins here, and say around that time I held a conversation with a friend and told him while there are things I am a fanboy of and nerd out over, I didn't see the appeal of MLP:FIM or the brony subculture. I believe I even said I would never be one. Yeah, right... Flash Forward: January 2014, and I am on a documentary kick on Netflix. It recommends I watch the docoumentary "Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of MLP." I figured, why not? I watched it, and I became intrigued. The tipping point was seeing that Tara Strong and John de Lancie were involved, as I am a huge fan of both. After the documentary ended, I decided to see if the show was available to stream. I watched the entire first season in two days.
  4. Hey all, So, I've recently started reading the IDW comics. I am currently reading Vol 3, and there are some ponies on the cover I can't place. Can you help? Starting from the bottom row and moving left: First Row: Octavia PON-3 ??? Second Row: Bon Bon (?) Derpy Hooves Dr. Whooves Third Row: I don't recognize any of them. Thanks, bros!
  5. Judging by your profile icon, I'm assuming Pinkie invited them over for cupcakes?
  6. Hi Everypony, Earlier today I was given a very welcomed surprise. Last week one of my students noticed me wearing my t-shirt with the saying,"20% Cooler, 100% Brony." This lead to a nice chat about the show and the fandom after class was done. After our class today she came up to my desk while I was packing and said she had something for me. While shopping, she saw this and had to give it to me:
  7. This is always a topic that I use to surprise new friends. My family is extremely large, and this was something I accepted as common until I got older. - My father is the middle of five children - My mother is the fifth of seven children When you add it all together, I have 35 first cousins and 22 aunts and uncles. Family reunions are always fun, needless to say.
  8. I am an Aquarius, and absolutely love it. Our traits include intelligence, curiosity, friendliness, and a drive to understand the world and people and improve things. That is absolutely who I am, so maybe there is some truth to astrological signs.
  9. Hi there! I'm new to the herd, too, so welcome! In reply to your own introduction: Favorite of the Mane 6: I'm leaning towards Twilight Sparkle since she's so much like me. Finding the forums: A simple Google search. Becoming a Brony: i watched the documentary on Netflix and then the show. I freakin' love everything about it.
  10. Hi there, I can totally relate to you. I never understood what the fascination was, either. Like you, I watched the documentary (I made it all the way through) and decided to check out the show. By the end of the first episode I knew I was done. I was a brony. Welcome friend!
  11. Hello to all, Please allow me to take a moment to introduce myself. I'm CrimsonSlash, and this is my story: First off, I sincerely hope this doesn't come across the wrong way, but I never thought I would be saying any of this. I am a 28-year-old with an MA in Creative Writing, and I teach composition and American literature at a major four year university. I felt that bit was important to explaining my introduction to this new (for me at least) fandom. I've been aware of the MLP fandom for a few years, but largely ignored it. For me, I remember the MLP toys from my childhood, but that was it. It got filed away in that area of my brain that recalls other toys aimed at girls, such as Polly Pocket and The Littlest Pet Shop. Yesterday (as I am writing this post Midnight) when I signed into Netflix, I checked the recommendations. I've been on a documentary kick for awhile, and I was recommended a film called "Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony." I watched it, and I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed the film. Consider it my serious introduction. When it was over, I went about the rest of my day, only to return to the tempting glow that is Netflix. My curiosity now peaked, I searched for MLP:FIM and saw it was available to stream. I sat back on my couch, fired up the first episode....and now I am a brony. If you were to ask me what I liked about the show, I would say it's the production values, definitely, and the writing doesn't talk down to me. Even though it is a show targeted at children, the writing doesn't insult or demean, it addresses the characters, plots, and themes in a serious manner. I get it now. I understand.
