In the very early morning, about half an hour before the sun breaks the horizon, my eyes snap open, and I know I won't get back to sleep. I get up quietly so as not to wake Spacer and leave the tent. Outside, the very last smoldering remains of the fire are burning. I get some wood from nearby and get the fire hot again, then sprint down to the nearby market and pick up some eggs. I get back with them and start scrambling them over the fire. I make a huge batch so everyone can have their fill, and I also pull out some rolls to make egg sandwiches. I have a couple myself so I can focus on serving others, then wait for others to wake up while gazing at the surrounding nature and wondering what I could write about them -
Dusty grinned at the mare. "Sometimes, you just know. Ooooh! Shh, here we go!" he said excitedly as the moon to the far east just started to break over the mountains far off in the distance. The silvery orb was a full moon tonight, and as it slowly rose Dusty could barely tear his eyes from it. Eventually though, he turned to look at the mare beside him, the moon reflected in her eyes as she gazed at Luna's beauty.
-
Dusty glanced at the watch he wasn't wearing. "Well sweet Luna, we don't have much time! Let's go!" he exclaimed, bolting out of the shop and making for the small lake nearby. He eventually came to rest on top of a large pile of boulders that flattened out on top to make an excellent vantage point. "Here is the perfect spot," he remarked.
-
Dusty frowned for a moment, considering his options. After a moment his eyes lit up, and his face reddened slightly. "Hmm.. How about this? You can still have the book, if you agree to watch the moon rise with me tonight," he offered, already bracing for incoming declination.
-
Dusty considered for a moment, then smiled devilishly. "Tell you what. I'll make you a deal. I will let you have that book for free, IF" he leaned in closer, "and only IF you make sure to spread the word. Dusty Quill is here, he's inspired, he's got plenty of writings for everypony, and in two weeks, he's gone! Make sure to make me sound really, cool, okay?" he asked with a sly grin.
-
Dusty smiled faintly to himself. "A beliver in romance, I see. I am as well. I think the best one for a tale of adventure is this, The Lost Pegasus. It's a story of a young stallion who is taken by rogue diamond dogs far underground where his wings cannot help him. So it is up to the filly who always loved him but never knew how to say so, the unicorn Bright Light, to search the vast caves and save her love. Sound interesting?" he asks with a smile, putting the other books back and holding the maroon volume out to his customer with magic.
-
@Harmony Cube Dusty smiled widely. "Fiction is my specialty, I think you'll find. What genre do you love to read? Action? Adventure? Mystery?" a sudden catch in his throat, but he stammered out, "Romance?" As he was asking, his magic was summoning several books of each genre that floated gently before the mare.

After a few minutes of shame rolling, I steal a couple glances at Spacer to make sure she isn't mad. Even though she seems not to be, I still turn red thinking about what a doof I was. Eventually, I once more settle into a sleeping position, and after a few minutes I'm once more asleep soundly. -
From behind the desk, Dusty almost immediately brightens up. He was finally hearing another customer. "Why hello there, and how are we this eve-" He stopped short, having caught sight of the mare in question. He turned slightly red, then finished, "evening?" At the same time, he moved from behind the desk to help the mare find a book

That kinda would've been good to note early on, haha. From here on we can do whatever. -

Okay! I shall get right on it then! It's ready! The link is now in the first post -
(Link to OOC thread: http://mlpforums.com/topic/105817-1x1-or-2x2-romantic-rp/#entry2908161) As I finish nailing the last piece of my small shop up, I am ready for business finally. The shop is plain wood, painted a darkish blue, with a sign that in carefully written silver script says "Dusty Quill's Tales of the Travelling Bard (In Town for a Limited Time Only!)" and a doorway with a probably-too-thin door slightly ajar. I had just finished putting up the magic light that served as the dot of the 'i' in Quill on the sign, which would light up the shop's exterior at night. My shop was in the outskirts of Ponyville, just barely in town officially. I trotted inside, pleased with the several display shelves of various scrolls and books and tomes that adorned the walls. I took my place behind my foldout desk and waited patiently. Even though a few ponies passed through during the afternoon, by late evening I was a bit discouraged at the relatively small amount of sales I'd had that day. "Don't get too down just yet," I told myself, "you're just a bit out of the way. Once those ponies who did buy something see the quality of your work, the rest of town will come in droves. Just be patient." However, as the sun started to lose its fight against the horizon, I had to accept that my day would have to end fairly soon.

Sincerest apologies dear miss, I should have known better. http://mlpforums.com...sty-quill-r5953 So would you prefer to go ahead with the two, or wait for a bit and see if others are interested? -

I love your OC! And honestly, the age is kinda vague. I only say 24 on Dusty's because all I really try to convey is that he's finished with school. Sorta like how the Mane 6 don't have a definite age. But yeah, sounds great -
Here's the scenario. You, a filly living in Ponyville, hear that the travelling writer Dusty Quill has stopped in town for a few days. Curious, you check out his little shop at the edge of town, and that's when maybe Dusty considers not leaving after all. Please, I wish to avoid alicorn/undead/otherwise OP or unnatural OCs as a general rule. In keeping with site rules, I don't intend for it to become an Equestria After Dark sorta thing. In the event that there is another pair who wishes to join, the scenario is tweaked in that one of the three is a partner of Dusty's who travels with him, and the remaining two are pre-established friends. For a few minutes I get comfy in my new pony-pillow, but after a bit I slowly wake up. I blink a few times, then realize what I must have done. My face immediately crimson, I reel back, apologizing in a furious whisper, "SORRYSORRYSORRY" and roll around on the floor a bit in shame. Out of the corner of my eye, I notice Chelsea's new tent, but elect not to question it at the moment -

The moment Spacer pokes my side, the imaginary boundary holding my body in place is broken and I instantly pull her into a hug, muttering "I'm so glad the spider ate the toast instead of us, Vinyl! Let's celebrate with some lemon poppyseed cake; I made some this morning." -

A few minutes after falling asleep, I start to vaguely mumble. Those close enough occasionally catch something like "It's fine, there's plenty of toast for you all" or "If that isn't the biggest Star Spider I've ever seen... Want some toast?" occasionally dotted with a gesture of a hoof. -

I smile faintly at Spacer. "No need to worry. If they come, that's good. If not, that's fine too. Everything can be made good. Even things that don't seem fun or nice at first can be a chance to grow and change. I think I know that as well as anypony. They'll make their call, and we at least will be on our way." I pick a spot near the same corner and lie sideways on the floor, stretching briefly. I manage a "G'night" before almost immediately losing consciousness. -

I smirk a bit at the suggestion of sharing the tent, turning just barely red. "Uh, fine by me, haha," I say, finally removing my saddlebags and placing them just outside the tent's flaps. "It's fairly spacious in here though," I remark as I move inside, looking for a comfortable spot on which to curl up. -

I think I've fixed the stuff that needed doing, so we should be good to go. Still, it's been a while since anyone has posted. I think like 9.5 hours ago was the last one. I know everyone's schedule is probably messy and silly and that's fine, but Bre has kinda set up an "everyone needs to respond" scenario with this last one. -

I raise a brow at the coffin-toting pony. "You prefer to travel at night and sleep in the day? Huh. By the way, I don't think I ever caught your name. What was it?l" I ask, once more packing my scrolls up. "Personally I think it would be an affront to Spacer's efforts that went into setting this place up if we didn't use it." I gesture to the large tent behind me. -

I too relax quite a bit, slumping a bit on my stump-stool. "Right now," I say, pushing the navy blue mane out of my face, "my goal is to find some interesting ponies with whom to travel. Ponies that'll make the trip always worth writing about. And yeah, I think it's fair to say I'm on the lookout for true love out here too. I'm a writer, a poet. I'm almost required to believe there's somepony out there for me and all my crazy." -

I gape for a minute. "Write.. About everything? Every possible story?" My eyes widen a bit and I move a bit closer to Oreo, looking him in the eye. "If I ever came that far, I'd have become the greatest writer in history, by leagues and miles. But," I say with a laugh, "that won't happen. It simply can't. There are millions of ponies spread all over the world, and each of them is living a story worth telling. I am only one pony. I'd never be able to write about everything, not if I had the rest of time itself. And that's the beauty of my calling," I explain, eyes flashing with passion, "I will never be finished. I'll never run out of stories to tell. My task is infinite, like the myriad stars in my benefactor's night sky." -

My smile brightens at the request. "Well sure as sugar you can!" I pull out scroll after scroll, all wrapped in different colors of ribbon. "I have tales of love, tales of travel and adventure, of action and stunts, of the beauty of nature, of the folly of the ponies of days gone by, and yes, even of vengeance." By the time I'm done talking, several dozen scrolls are organized in piles based on ribbon color. The lavender one is still in the bag.
