    So Im back after a week off and there has been a change of plans. Instead of reviewing Frozen like I was supposed to last week I'll review Rainbow Factory instead, my current situation does not allow me to get the movie at this time. To make up for it Im going to make two reviews next week, one Frozen and the other can be a request. Enough of that, lets get into this.
    If you've been in this fandom for any length of time you probably heard of this one, if you haven't there is a problem. I consider it to be in the 'big three' fan fics that everyone knows, and its one of my personal favorites. The story's idea came from the Wooden Toaster song on YouTube about how rainbows are made. So our story begins with setting up the fact that no pony knows where the spectra to make rainbows comes from. As we find out this has been going on for 1000 years, because I guess its normal in Equestria for ponies not to question anything.
    Our actual story breaks in as we go to Scootaloo's perspective, she is now older and now has the ability to fly, thus destroying several of my fan fictions. She is nervous because apparently all the failures of the flight test she is about to take are never seen again because Cloudsdale is going USSR on us. Orion, Scootaloo's friend, is worried he wont pass his test while Scoots is confident she'll pass because she got tips from Rainbow Dash. Because its not like she flunked out of flight school or anything........right? After some more gloating on Scoots' part they praise Mother Russia, umm I mean the flock.
    The flight instructor comes in to give the rundown of the flight test, ending with the statement "Clear, Fly, Fall, Complete. Please remember that for me. One author OC insert later and Aurora Dawn nearly passes the test before her wing breaks and she is instantly failed.
    Orion handles the situation like any rational pony would and exiles himself from Cloudsdale just to help Aurora because no pony else would....seems legit. Scootaloo is obviously upset by losing a friend and as a result she fails too, good job. The three 'failures' as they are now referred as walk down to a carriage that will take them away. Shortly after being met by New Yorker stereotype ponies Scoots contemplates being banned from Equestria.........no comment, and thinks that it wont be so bad. The stereotype ponies call them scum for a little bit until the carriage is handed off to ponies in black suits, Scoots notices one with rose colored eyes. Hmm, I wonder who it could be, I have no possible clue who this masked pony is, whatever, its not important. Not. At. All.
    At long last our protagonists arrive at titular Rainbow Factory where we meet Dr. Atmosphere, who would like to assure us that he's not a medical doctor but an engineer...hmm, he should get some coffee with Doctor Robotnik some time. As it would turn out the factory is kinda a crap hole, wires, pipes and other things are sticking out all over the place. Like most other things its not made clear why, typical. In the next room there is a large group of ponies that came from the other schools and in the center of this room is a large metal device because we all know that metal floats on clouds. Ponies in black suits enter on a catwalk and one begins going on about, "Beautiful, magical rainbows". Oh no, its finally happened. G3 DASH IS HERE TO KILL US ALL!!!! *ahem* anyway, the rose eyed pegasus which I still have no clue who it could be gives us exposition. Celestia at one time made rainbows but after Luna was banished she had no time to make them as a result the pegusi made a device because Im sure the ponies had the technology 1000 years ago to extract colors from ponies. A pony also says, "What did those horrible PEOPLE do." wait what, people? I believe the term is PONIES author, what are these people you speak of? Well the masked pony takes off her mask and *gasp* its Rainbow Dash! What I thought it would be Silver Spoon, really who did not see this coming. Ive seen M Night Shyamalan write better twists.
    So Scootaloo starts yelling at RD about how she betrayed her and Dash yells back about Scoots being dead to her, all that good stuff. Rainbow decides to make a statement by using the device on Scoots' friend Orion and we get a moment from Star Wars 5 where the two characters say that they love each other. Unlike Han Solo however Orion isn't going to be back for the sequel. So he gets pulled up to the device and they break his ribs beforehand, why you may ask, because potatoes, that's why.
    Now with Orion dead the other children are next but don't worry, Scootaloo has a plan, guess what it is. Clear, fly, fall, complete. The exact same routine that all the children failed the first time is her plan of escape............logic, what's that? All the kids gang up on the guards and try to kick open the door, the whole time Rainbow is just busy killing children faster than Pinkanima on a sugar rush just to reach Scootaloo. The door finally gives but Aurora cant fly out because her wing is broken so Scoots is left to escape along as Dash tosses her into the Pegasus Device. So now that RD is in a hate fueled frenzy she chases Scootaloo through the halls of the factory, until she escapes down a vent where she cant follow, thus escaping the factory, the end.
    That's to happy isn't it, so instead the vent takes Scootaloo back into the room with the Pegasus Device, thus dooming her. Rainbow catches Scoots and chains her above the device, and in evil villain fashion she asks her if she has any last words. Scootaloo says "You have beautiful eyes" thus ending the story on a ambiguous note and letting the reader wonder what actually happened.......if you don't count the sequel of alternate endings.
    So that was the Rainbow Factory, one of my favorite fan fictions of all time, how does it hold up? Pretty well actually, like every story it has flaws but these don't spoil the whole experience. I would defiantly recommend it to anyone who hasn't yet read it. Leave a comment or request below, your support is appreciated, see you all next week with Frozen!

    You know that right?
     
    Because if there's one thing you must know.....I HATE THIS FAN FICTION, IT IS A HUGE STINKING PILE OF PONY PLOP! *ahem* sorry I will try to keep my emotions in check for this review. So for those of you who are not aware Never Stop Smiling is a sad fic that has a simple concept, Rainbow Dash writing a letter, that will try every trick in the book to make you cry. Im not sure how popular this fic is but Ive braised myself for the hate mail.
    So our delightful romp into the realm of sappiness begins with Rainbow Dash, like I stated before, writing a letter. This part goes on for some time and I wonder when the writers stop stating the obvious that Pinkie is nice and wants to make others happy. We then discover that at some point in time Dash was rejected from joining the Wonderbolts, and then emerges one of the major gripes I have with this story. Considering this fic was written before season 2 aired I will only take the first one into account. So tell me writers of this story tell me why would she be rejected if she can preform the Sonic Rainboom and the tiny, insignificant fact that SHE SAVED YOUR LIVES!
    Why yes, in the episode Sonic Rainboom if it wasn't for Rainbow Dash all of the Wonderbolts would be nothing but splatters on the grass under Cloudsdale, Im not sure how recruiting works for that organization but Im sure that would play a large part in Dash's recruitment. Now that we have disregarded logic we may continue. Pinkie Pie through her insane powers finds out of her friends troubles and tries to comfort her friend. She continues to help Dash cope with her crushed dreams and finally tells Dash to never stop smiling (Insert Peter Griffin saying "haha, he said it" here). That phrase seems the be the magical mystery cure and Rainbow instantly begins to feel better, oh but it only gets better from here right?........No, it doesn't.
    So what else can we throw into the mix here, wait I know an incredibly forced romance between Dash and Pinkie, I am not kidding. Perhaps I would enjoy this story more if this crap wasn't thrown into the mix, I mean it this comes out of nowhere, in the story it says, "You kissed me." and now we enter somebodies shipping fantasy.

    Now with barley any prompting Dash now says she loves Pinkie and the two end up sleeping together............EEEEEWWWWW! However not all is well as Dash discovers as Pinkie died in her sleep of a disease she probably could have cured with some form of magic. Next we get hit with a touching scene....how do they screw it up? MORE SHIPPING, BECAUSE THATS WHAT THE STORY NEEDED ISNT IT?!?!?! *whew* don't worry, you can do this....... while Twilight goes back to Canterlot to make the magics Rarity and Fluttershy apparently got together and will be married soon, what is the point of that you may ask well I can tell you right now that this bit of info is completely useless.
    Who hasnt been thrown into the shipping ring yet hmm......a background pony perhaps........I got it, Lyra! Actually its Applejack on the chopping block next and Rainbow recounts finding her crying under a tree after Pinkies death and the two form a romantic relationship and get married.....*sigh* and for the icing on top of this pile of crap how about further derailing Rainbows character by making her want kids and be a stay at home mom, she ends the letter with saying she'll love Pinkie forever and blah blah blah, the end...............WHAT!?!?!? RAINBOW DASH WANTING KIDS, BEING A STAY AT HOME MOM, MARRYING APPLEJACK!!!!! This fic could have been good it honestly could have but it it is an emotional ploy around shipping ideas that should not have been there in the first place. Not only is its plot riddled with holes, not only is Rainbow out of character, but its just AAAAAHHHH.
     
    Ok if you like this story good for you but its just not my cup of tea, now if you excuse me Ive got to go and prepare myself for the hate mail that may start coming at me

    Wow has it been a LONG time since my first review (not that anyone was waiting for a second) but life got in the way and now I'm back. New rules this time I'm reviewing anything I get a request for, not just MLP stuff and I swear I'm doing one of these a week now. Enough stalling lets go.
    So for those of you who aren't familiar, the Sonic OVA is a 'movie' that came out in Japan to market the Sonic CD game there. I found a DVD copy of the English version which is actually pretty rare and worth a bit of money and decided to review it for you today. So the movie opens with Robotnik, oh I'm sorry 'Eggman', monologuing about his new robot Hyper Metal Sonic. After the title screen smacks us in the face we get a shot over a floating island that is not to be confused with Angel Island with some pretty good background music. If there's one thing I can give this movie its that the music is pretty good.
    Finally we see a large mountain base with Sonic sitting out on the beach with Tails running in from behind, and then they talk........and lets just say this isn't a particularly good English dub. Tails' voice is high pitched and sounds like he has a cold and Sonics voice is slightly grating as well. After some banter that establishes that Sonic as an A-hole we get introduced to one of the most irritating characters I've seen in media, the owl from the Tootsie Pop commercial who is flying a rocket that is about to explode.
    After a failed rescue attempt from Tails, Sonic finally gets off his ass and saves them at the last minute from certain doom in a surprisingly well animated scene for the time. So the owl (yes he doesn't have a name) tells the pair that the President wants to meet them and they take off in the Tornado to get there. Upon arrival we find out that *gasp* Robotnik captured the president and his daughter who serves as Sonic kinda/sorta love interest [insert bestiality joke here] that you will want dead by the end of this abomination. So instead of stopping Robotnik right there they taunt him a bit and allow him to hit us with a lengthily exposition dump that nearly made me die of boredom.
    However we do find out that the planet is called Freedom, yes Freedom so creative I know, and that Robotniks city Robotropolis (which looks like Eggman Land to me) was taken over by a demonic robot called Metal Robotnik took over and overloaded a generator that will blow up the planet at sunrise the next day. This is obviously a trap but our 'hero's' are too stupid to ever question it so why should you. So after giving them a tracker to get to Robotropolis, Robotnik sends them on their way. After a well animated scene with Sonic and Tails running through the land of darkness they enter a LSD seizure portal and on the other side is clearly post-apocalyptic New York.
    Ya, for some reason is movie wants to say that this takes place on a post-apocalyptic Earth and I have no idea why, and not only is it not subtle its not necessary either. So after Metal Robotnik appears, Tails states the obvious for the millionth time, and Sonic flips him off (you know, for kids) we have a chase scene that introduces us to the plot device in the form of Knuckles and the destruction of Metal Robotnik who was piloted by Robotnik the whole time to the surprise of nobody.
    So finally they all get to the Robot generator and in typical cliché style are able to shut it off a millisecond before it explodes, only to have Sonic get trapped in a green field of energy that activates Metal Sonic. Tails states the obvious again and makes me want to kill him before a fight commences between Sonic and Metal that doesn't really amount to anything accept Sonic being temporarily beaten. With Sonic out of the way Metal can go on a rampage and draw some smoke lines over scenery we saw before. So while Tails tinkers with the watch he got to do something to it that it could functionally never be able to do Robotnik reveals his plan to us. So why is he going out of his way to destroy all life on the planet......
    Just so he can bang the presidents daughter.......that's right Robotnik is destroying a PLANET just so he can get a piece of the presidents teenage daughter.........excuse me while I go vomit.

    Ok I'm back *gag* so anyway we find out the whole planet is held together by a ice bridge that, if destroyed, will break the whole thing. This open up a hole in Robotniks plan because maybe instead of building a complicated robot to do it why doesn't he just use explosives. It seems simpler and more efficient. Sonic finally comes back into the plot to go to the North Pole and stop Metal and Robotnik and all his friends follow close behind.
    So finally we get to the final fight and to be honest its pretty awesome, that my be because everything else in this movie has been so bad that my expectations where low but the fight reminds me a bit of DBZ. Robotnik finally shows up and we are bombed with several sexual innuendos that have no reason to be here and the presidents daughter falls out of Robotniks ship and fall toward the ground. Don't feel bad if you cheered when she nearly died, we all wanted her to anyway.
    When the battle finally starts to be lost Tails uses the watch to overload Metal with the power of bad writing and Sonic finally sends him blasting off again. As if things couldn't get more stupid the president shows up and crashes his ship into the ice bridge just around the time Metal shows up for a second round of fighting and Sonic personality somehow fully takes over and he saves the president before he kills himself in lava.
    Now everything's over all the characters have a good laugh about Robotnik nearly killing the whole human race and they all go off into the sunset. So that was the Sonic OVA, how was it?......it was pretty bad. The plot is ridiculous, the voice acting is some of the worst I've ever heard and the characters where all either stupid or complete A-holes but you know what, I kinda liked this. Ya, despite all the things wrong with it I found myself rolling on the floor in laughter at its stupidity, so if your ever looking for a good laugh just sit down, grab a beer and watch the Sonic OVA

    Hello every pony and welcome to my blog where I review fan works and fanfiction in the MLP fandom. Today I have chosen an animation called Project Thundercloud. So without anymore hesitation lets start this review.
     
    Plot- The story follows the character Derpy as she flies into Canterlot Castle for some reason. She begins to tell us how she got her cutie mark and her 'derpy' eyes and how it effects her life. After a short explanation on her being a mailmare that's when I really started to get lost. She ends her flashback and is in a room with pads with the mane sixes cutie marks and them and they go out one by one. Then Pinkie Pie gets incased in crystal, Trixie is there for some reason, derpy tells off and angry looking Celestia and than the credits roll, did you get any of that? Nether did I. Also at the end of the credits Derpy is in the celestial plain from the end of Magical Mystery Cure and is an alicorn. Overall what started out as an interesting look into derpy's past started throwing things at us with no explanation and leaves you with more questions than answers. There is apparently a part two being made and hopefully that will explain thing much better than this did.
     
    Animation- in fairness the animation for this project is really good and you can see someone put a lot of time into it. However some of the characters movements seem slightly slow and stilted but it really isn't a problem. However my biggest complaint is that they use some 3D elements at several points and they look fine but when the ponies are in these environments they look very out of place, but overall everything looks nice.
     
    Misc.- One other thing I think I have to address is that there are several pointless cameos made by characters in this, although it's nowhere near as bad as double rainboom. Like in the establishing shot you see Vinyl and Octavia and they just look out of place and aren't really necessary to anything, the same goes for several other characters in the background.
     
    Overall score- 6/10: Despite the plot making no logical sense in the last few minutes the animation is actually some of the best I've seen from a fan project. So if your sitting around with nothing to do you should go and have a look. I don't heavily recommend this only because of this plot problem but if your curious you can give it a shot.
