How does one tell the difference between someone who is trolling and someone that is genuinely socially inept and challenged by common etiquette?
Long story short, a Facebook acquaintance felt that my stance on an ethics issue was "simply ignorant." I gave him the benefit of the doubt and explained, via message, that saying such was condescending and that if that was his desire to kindly unfriend me. If, however, that was not his intent then that this was a friendly suggestion that communicating like that makes people less willing to listen to you.
I did, of course, ask that he instead supply an explanation as to how my stance was flawed. He failed. He thought I was angry and proceeded to "defend" against my big badness.
He did, interestingly, cheer me up once I assumed he was simply trolling. I commended his grand performance, questioned the mysterious narrative, and begged that he reveal the secret agents behind this grand conspiracy. He started to sound crazy for the fact that I was violating his freedom of speech by blocking his verbal abuse from my wall. Unfortunately, in order to meet the pressing deadline of his publishers he started blundering through his editing. I mourned the faltering quality. I discontinued my subscription when I noticed he had begun plagiarizing my comments, also known as mimicking. I am, slightly concerned though. How could one tell the difference between an honest Troll and an honest Droll?
