  1. Equestria definitely has random technology when the plot demands it. (e.g. the instructional video in Hurricane Fluttershy, and Twi's mad scientist basement in Pinkie Keen) However, if we disregard that, I would agree with the majority of this thread, that it looks like probably early 1900's. Now, I'm going to have to pay attention, but I thought they didn't have electric lights. I thought they used a lot of candles and lanterns and stuff. If it's pre-electric light, that would put them about mid 19th century. But of course, as has been pointed out already, you can't really directly compare them to humans. Actually, I think their technology would be most similar to that of the Black Jewels universe, if any of you have ever read those books by Anne Bishop. It's a fantasy universe with, I'd say sort of Victorian age technology. At first you think it's going to be LOTR, but then they make references to things like modern plumbing and such, and you start to wonder exactly how advanced they are. The author actually does a great job at never specifically describing it, because the technology isn't relevant to the story, and it's better left up to the reader's imagination. The Black Jewels universe seems to be pre-electricity, and they use magic for lighting. Witchlight, they call it. Equestria and MLP in general actually reminds me of Black Jewels quite often. Here's another thing to think about: Discord. So, as we all know, he's Q, which means he can probably travel through time as well. He could introduce any technology to Equestria that he wanted, just to violate the Prime Directive and screw with em. In fact, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we see Discord driving a modern car during his glass-of-water song? While we're on the subject of technology, I think a SPECTACULAR crossover would be a ponified version of Cave Johnson, and an Equestria version of the 1950's Aperture Laboratories from Portal 2. That would be amazing.
  2. Poor quality video, but this clip perfectly sums up how I feel about the whole closet brony issue.
  3. Note: I've seen seasons 1-3, plus four random episodes from season 4. I'm waiting until season 4 comes out on disc to watch all of it, so apologies is some of this is inaccurate.) Characters I want to hear MORE singing from: 1. Basically all of the mane six, but in particular Flutters, Rarity, and, as many have pointed out, an overdue RD solo. 2. Cadence 3. Ponytones (I want an actual ALBUM, god dammit!) Characters I want to hear, whom we haven't heard yet: 1. Zecora 2. Luna 3. Shining Armor (duet with Cadence would be brilliant) 4. Wonderbolts, with a solo from Spitfire 5. Spike (he deserves a shot) Characters I could do without hearing a lot more of: 1. Princess C. (she's great a lot of things, but personally I think singing ain't one em. Twi's got it all over Celestia as a singer. I'm sorry, please don't hate me!) 2. CMC (meh, they're just kinda annoying) 3. Discord (I love Q, but singing ain't his thing)
  4. Hmm. When I think about writing a research paper related to MLP for a psych class, I immediately think about analyzing why there is so much hatred of bronies out there. But interviewing anti-bronies may not be something you want to touch. And who could blame you? But here's a post I made on the Warframe forums when I first became a brony. I made some observations and theories about the controversy. Feel free to steal any of my ideas if you want. https://forums.warframe.com/index.php?/topic/202367-so-apparently-im-a-brony-nowhuh-well-ok-then/?hl=brony Another thing I often think about is how little girls are encouraged to watch shows celebrating the magic of friendship, and little boys are encouraged to watch shows where aliens and robots blow each other up. And the overwhelming majority of all violent crimes are commited by men. Connection? Maybe? What if it was made completely socially acceptable, not just acceptable, but encouraged for boys to watch MLP. Would we see a decrease in aggression over generations? I really don't know, but it's just interesting stuff to think about. Anyway, these ideas might not be very plausible for you to write about. I'm not sure how you'd actually gather tangible data and analyze it. Just throwin out some ideas. Do with it what you will.
  5. I'm just getting into this show now. Started watching 3 days ago, watching one episode per day. I absolutely love this show. Best funny show on TV right now.
  6. That was probably a continuity error, or possibly they hadn't decided on a permanent voice for her yet because she'd only had cameo appearances up to that point. This reminds me of a Simpsons scene in Lemon of Troy where Flanders can be heard shouting clearly in another voice. And I'm not talking about his high pitched scream. It was just blatantly another voice. Pretty sure it was Professor Frink. Goofy stuff. They do stuff like this all the time in entertainment. Like, let's say they finish a scene, but then realize later that they forgot some scream sound or something, but by then the voice actor temporarily unavailable or something, so some random member of the production crew will provide the sound. Stuff like that. Like the scene in Return of the King when Sam confronts Shealob with the Light of Elendil, and you see his arm come onto the screen holding the light; that's actually Peter Jackson's arm, cause they forgot to do that shot or some such, and it was just easier than calling up Sean Astin to come back for that one shot. But I digress. Anyway, I absolutely love Spitfire. She's so awesome. And I love how the Wonderbolt's captain is female is as well. This just reminds me of something I've been thinking about. In a world that is unfortunately still pretty male dominated, it's great to see a show that is so female dominated. When I look through all of my games and movies and shows that I watch, the majority of the characters are male. I guess I have a biased perspective because the types of things I like (sci-fi and fantasy), tend to be more targeted towards males, and tend to have more male characters. I mean, there's women in most of these movies/games as well, but they're rarely the main characters. And it's usually about a 3 to 1 ratio of male to female. I won't ramble on giving a bunch of examples. I just wanted to say how nice and refreshing it is to watch a series where all of the main characters are female, including the rulers and authority figures, like the Princesses and Spitfire.
  7. This sounds like a very interesting study. I'm looking forward to seeing this comic strip. I don't think I could ever stay objective and hold my tongue in the face of such stupidity, though. Good luck and godspeed, sir.
  8. It's always nice to see somepony else who found the show late like I did. I've only been here a couple of months myself. Great to have you onboard! And I'd just like to add that I hope you decide to come out at some point, and I truly hope you're met with acceptance. It always saddens me to hear when bronies don't feel like they can come out to their friends or family.

Five hundred years ago everybody knew that the Earth was flat, and fifteen minutes ago you knew that people were alone on this planet. 10. I've been experimenting with lucid dreaming a lot lately. I'm starting to have success. For the first time in my life, I've had two lucid dreams where I was in complete control. These two dreams were not MLP related, however. But I have had three dreams lately that were MLP related, but not lucid. In one dream I was Rainbow Dash, flying around, doing...something. I forget. In another I was Big Mac performing Got the Music in You in the Ponytones. The third dream was a bit more substantial. I made the following post about it. http://mlpforums.com/topic/96846-the-box-of-twilight-a-strange-pony-dream-i-had/?hl=pony+dream#entry2616830
  11. Hmm, I better not. If I tell you about the weirdest dream I've ever had, I will be banned from the entire internet for life...
  12. FF Tactics. I almost gave up on that game after a few hours. I was just like, "Da f*ck is this?" It seemed really weird to me, I kept expecting to be able to get out on the overworld and walk around, and ended up confused when I couldn't. But I stuck with it and after few more days I just sort of figured it out. It turned out being one of my favorite games of all time and still is today. Which reminds me, I have Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together laying around (the game FF Tactics was based on.) Still gotta play that at some point here.
  13. AVP2. Now THERE was some good, olde thymey fun. And original Unreal Tournament. No shooter has every come close to matching UT for the fast paced, arena style deathmatch. Sadly, there's hardly anyone on that game, and you if you manage to find a server with people in it, you have to dl gigs upon gigs of random CRAP to be able to join.
  14. Warframe (where my avatar is from) You Have to Win the Game (a short but brilliant little retro gem) The Plan (anypony who has not played The Plan absolutely must do so. Free on Steam. Five minutes, and it will change your life forever.)
  15. Skyrim is indeed pretty epic, but for epic songs, I don't think anything can top this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Js1hJH9rp-Q
  16. Here's a free, very intruiging retro game bundle. http://odditie-s.tumblr.com/post/81109325064/the-pirate-bay-bundle
  17. Lol, this is great. When I read the thread title, I thought you just meant you crashed the game with too much tnt or your spawned a swarm of ender dragons or something. I was gonna say, "pfffff, that's not hard to do." But this, this is really something!
  18. I get misty eyed every time. I'm so glad they knew better than to mess with this perfect ending by making a sequel. One of the only times the film industry got it right.
  19. I love retro gaming. My favorite classics never lose their luster. Super Metroid, Link to the Past, Diablo II, Starcraft. Maybe the latter two aren't that retro. I just recently bought the whole Baldur's Gate saga on Good Ol' Games. I never got around to playing them back in their day, so I'm getting into them now. That is some brilliant, olde thymey goodness. I'm also nuts for this You Have to Win the Game on Steam. A brand spankin new game, granted, but in a completely retro style. It's in the category of VVVVVV. If you haven't tried either one, you should look into them. Here's a link to a completely free and totally amazing, mind blowing, retro style game. I highly recommend it. It was originally a college project. The assignment was basically to make a game in, like, a weekend or something, and this is what they came up with. http://games.digipen.edu/downloads/perspective_setup?id=1170&proj=25930#.U3NWpihX6M8
  20. I love to read. I don't make as much time for it as I should. Usually because I'm crusing internet forums instead! ;P My favorite books are Dune by Herbert and Black Jewels by Anne Bishop. Anypony who like sci-fi and/or fantasy MUST read those. Even if you don't like sci-fi or fantasy, you'll probably still love them. I just recently purchased the Black Company series by...by all means. Um...dang, who wrote that? Uhh...Glen Cook! That's right. Can't wait to get started on those. I also have the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant by Stephen Donaldson. Still haven't read those. Dang, I need to make more time to read. @Ayvid_Reader - I also love the Read it and Weep episode. The best part is during a Friend in Deed when Pinkie is trying to get advice from Twi, and Rainbow is just chilling in Twi's library reading Daring Do, just kinda reclining on the steps. So friggin awesome. She was so afraid of becoming an egghead just a few episodes earlier, and now it's like reading is the new cool thing to do. It's just like, "Yeah, this is my weekly reading time with Twi. Anypony got a problem with that?" Rainbow makes it cool to read. And what a great message for kids!
  21. Favorites (can't choose one. I can only narrow it down to five): Crash Spirited Away O Brother Where Art Thou Lord of the Rings Sling Blade Least favorties: Indiana Jones 4 Spider Man 3 Transformers series Out of Africa
  22. The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan, hands down. Other notables: As I Lay Dying by Faulkner, anything by Jane Austen. Disclaimer: I acknowledge that these authors are talented. I'm not saying the books are garbage, I just found them boring as hell and did not enjoy them. I don't mean to derail the thread, but I don't like ending on a sour note, so I just want to list my favorites real quick. Dune by Herbert, Black Jewels by Anne Bishop. Ok that's all. Bye.
  23. Destiny, FFXIII Lightning Returns (just for the gameplay. the story looks sketchy, and I'm not happy with what they did with the story in XIII-2, but the gameplay in Lightning Returns just looks so friggin awesome.) The game I'm most looking forward to playing atm is Metro Last Light. I own it on Steam, but I don't currently have a computer capable of running it with any kind of playable framerate.
  24. That's what I was gonna say! You beat me to it. Chills. Absolute chills every time. And OP, Portal 2 was a great choice as well. The climax during the final battle was probably the most mind blowing of all video game moments for me. Some others in my top list of endings: Ocarina of Time Final Fantasy 6 Dirge of Cerberus (possibly one of the most underappreciated games of all time. You never hear anything about it, but it's a masterpiece.)
  25. I'm so excited. I just had my second lucid dream! I often have this recurring dream where I'm back in high school, excpet I'm the age I am now (28). I can't remember my class schedule, then the bell rings and I panic trying to find my classes and blabbity blah. This time, I get to the right class. It's my physics class from senior year. Now, irl, my high school physics teacher was my favorite teacher I ever had. So, in the dream, I'm walking to my desk, and I stop dead in my tracks when I have the moment of clarity again. I realize it's a dream. And I think there's a difference between knowing it's a dream, and knowing that you know it's a dream, if that makes sense. It's a deeper level of awareness, and a complete sense of control. So, I go, "This is a dream, which means I can do anything I want." I almost got excited and woke myself up again, but I actually, consciously thought, ok, just chill. Keep calm or you'll wake yourself up. And it worked! I stayed in. So I walk up to the teacher's desk and shove everything off. He just stares at me, puzzled. So I say, "Not outrageous enough for you?!" I then pick up a big glass beaker and smash it over his head, knocking him out cold. I then look around, smiling, satisfied and say, "Well, that worked, and I'm still asleep!" I walked outside and did my superman thing again. Flew straight up. This time I stayed in flight a little longer, flew horizontally for a bit, then woke myself up. I've never had lucid dreams before in my entire life, and now that's two inside a week. This are looking very hopeful. My next goal is to manipulate something in my surroundings. Just look at something and think about it changing, then open my eyes and actually make it work. The eventual, long term goal is to just be able to begin my dream in the Matrix construct program, the all white abyss, and just go, "Let's see, what do I want to dream about?" And then just write whatever I want. I will get there someday.
