  3. Damn. Another grunge legend bites the dust. RIP Chris Cornell.

    >_> We've only Vedder left, now, it seems.

*By which I mean [who is left of] the lead singers: Gone is Kurt Cobain (Nirvana), Layne Staley (Alice in Chains), Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots), and now Chris Cornell (Soundgarden). Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam) is the last remaining lead singer [in terms of the most well known grunge bands] alive.

If I missed anyone, do please correct me. I'm tired atm, lol.

      Fuck.

Had them on off and on since the report came on. Like most grunge and alt-rock bands you mentioned, Cornell and Soundgarden were intrinsically connected to my teenage years. The media outlets that call him a Founding Father of Grunge are completely accurate.

I was glad that Thayil and Cornell reunited for King Animal a few years back. Thayil is still an underappreciated guitarist, but these two artists perfectly complimented each other.

I actually saw them at a concert when I was in high school.

Speak the rhythm all alone. :(

@Jeric It's a shame. I know I cannot speak as someone who lived during the prime of the grunge/alt-rock era, but I have been a grunge/alt-rock fan since I began high school 8 years ago.

I'm glad you were able to see them live.

As someone who didn't live through the era, I can only enjoy the sounds of the past. It pains me to see kids of my age who strike down on the 90s grunge/alt-rock as "a fad." Like, fuck off. Music doesn't follow the same logic as fads. Music is timeless.

Nirvana, STP, Alice and Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and many more have all been able to find a rhythm within me.

It sucks, of course, knowing Chris hung himself... But his music will live on. Just as the rest have lived on. And will continue to.

As you can see, my current about me includes an Alice in Chain's demo album. I thought about changing it to something for the sake of Chris... But I decided to keep it as is. We all know... We know they all respected and loved each others' music. They all influenced each other, and loved each others' music. Kurt, Layne, Scott, Chris... Eddie (don't die on us yet, Vedder, damnit).

      Keep on keepin' on.

  8. I watched City of Angels last night. It had been probably 10 years or more since I last saw it. It's really a great movie. I find it underrated. I'd give it an 8/10 myself.  And damn, Meg Ryan used to be so friggin' pretty back then!

  9. A bunch of professors at my university are currently on strike. I went to get food today and saw like 10 or 15 professors (and a few helping students) protesting in front of one of the buildings on campus. They were walking in a circle in front of the building's entrance chanting "What We Do Want!? [A] Contract! When Do We Want It!? Now!" They even have someone drumming to keep the cadence/rhythm. I bet you could hear them from almost anywhere on campus. What a time to protest, considering there's less than 2 weeks left.

  16. Throughout the majority (of all seasons and episodes) of the show, I have very typically been super easy to please, sometimes even giving "easy passes" to episodes that I probably could have been harsher on, and rated lower. I used to be quick to defend the show on episodes where a lot of people were criticizing issues they didn't like. There have been a few episodes that I didn't like, but they weren't bad enough for me to really rip into them. But "Rock Solid" just pushed me over the edge. Look. We all know Pinkie is silly and hyper and clingy. We've known this since season 1. It's a big part of why her character appeals to so many of us. She's a laugh enabling, crowd pleasing, cute and loving "go-getter" who rarely uses the word "no." The Pinkie we saw in this episode was nothing but a pure caricature. It's like Pinkie Pie was told to play the role of a farce of her own self. In my mind I've always compared Pinkie Pie to Nicolas Cage. They both "overdo it" without actually overdoing it, if that makes sense. Their characters are always vibrant, emotional, and strong willed. But their is a limit... a limit where "mildly provocative" becomes "really fucking obnoxious." Pinkie Pie began this episode already very close to the limit. Each time she bothered Maud about staying in Ponyville brought her a little closer to the limit. As soon as she started bothering Starlight and Maud when they were together (attempting to become friends), she broke past the limit, and was for the remainder of the episode, really fucking obnoxious, getting worse and worse after each interaction. What really causes this episode to be a letdown overall is the lack of a lesson learned. Once she was taught the lesson, she immediately broke it and bugged her sister and Starlight again. She didn't learn anything. This episode bore no fruit.

  21. THIS... So much this. I see a lot of people here complaining, saying either "Why did Twilight take on such a great task when she was busy?" or "Why would Shining and Cadence not give a warning in advance?" That's the point. MLP episodes are meant to teach a lesson (or multiple). This episode teaches you not to take on a heavy task you can't handle when you're already busy, and not to put a heavy task on someone else who is already busy.
  22. With the types of villains we've already had, there aren't many directions left to go for new ones. Bringing villains from the past generations forward is a good idea in multiple ways. It's efficient, people who watched the older gens will recognize them, and new writing styles can refresh them into a better character. Otherwise there aren't many paths left that I can see. There are types of villains that I'd like to see, but wouldn't be fit for MLP. Personally, I loved the fact that when Starlight was a villain, the Mane 6 were basically combating communism. It's incredible how they've weaved subtle more adult concepts into the show while still maintaining obvious ideas for the younger intended audience. I'd love to see a more psychologically inclined villain, something similar to the Joker in the Dark Night. But a character of that scale is too adult oriented. The closest we've ever gotten to that was Mane-iac. But she was only just crazy, not smart or witty like the Joker. (Edit: Some may think I'm overlooking Discord, but he isn't crazy/mental, he's just chaotic). You may not think that you'd like Grogar, but with the amazing creativity we've seen so far, you might be surprised. Oh gosh, where would we be if that kind of thinking got through to the producers/writers? Yikes, I don't want to think about it.

Tomorrowland is an amazing movie. I find it to be quite underrated.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1964418/

It only scores a 6.5/10 on IMDB, but I'd give it an 8.25/10 myself. You should watch it, you might be impressed.
