  1. I didn't really agree with most of Paleo's criticisms. It felt to me like he was just look for reasons to hate it. I usually like his reviews, just not his PPG review. If you want a better description of the show's biggest problem, I think Pan Pizza did a much better job explaining it. It's not that critics don't like it because it's not a carbon copy of the original. Critics don't like it because it tries too hard to mimic the original but only does okay at it, while anything new it tries to do feels like it's already been done and done better by other Cartoons on right now. It also feels like the only reason it was commissioned was to artificially create popularity and to sell toys. Not to mention it can't decide if it wants to be a continuation or a separate continuity. I think that's a much better explanation than what Paleo gave IMHO.
  2. The second episode is available now on iTunes, Google Play, and Nick's website. Nickelodeon also released two original shorts for it on their YouTube channel. The first is a re-upload of the original pilot, while the second is an adaptation of a mini-comic handed out at comic-con about getting the last pizza slice. https://youtu.be/Z_aV_PJ5Z7s https://youtu.be/OBX8wmqG-K0 What do you guys think of the show so far if you've see it?
  3. Does anyone think he show is starting to pick up in quality? I mean, all the episodes we've had this week have been very good, with Power Up Puff being there best one. A lot of shows start off mediocre and unpolished before they become much better shows, and this looks to be one of them. So what do you think?
  4. I mentioned that CN hasn't had their upfront yet. I'm wondering what's taking them so long to release it. Nick and Disney already had theirs.
  5. Well, the basic premise is that a middle school kid named Reggie doesn't want to grow up like her peers, so she creates this place called Party Island where she and her friend Shane escape to have wild adventures. In this world, Reggie becomes the superhero Twelve and protects it's made up inhabitants from evil. It's not explained too much, but then again, it's a pilot. It's meant to serve as a basic proof of concept, not a full episode. There'll be plenty of time to flesh out the premise, characters and world in the full series, assuming this show gets picked up.
  6. I'm surprised nobody mentioned this yet. This is a Cartoon Network pilot from way back last year that's gained quite a cult following called Twelve Forever. Seriously, the show technically doesn't even exist yet, and already there's fanart, cosplay, and theories people are coming up with. I would love for Cartoon Network to pick this, and Back to Backspace up sooner or later. CN hasn't had their upfront yet, so there's still a chance we may see this. https://youtu.be/AXlmB0z8H1w
  7. I'm starting to think the only reason a lot of diehard fans of the OG Powerpuff are only hating the new show is out of spite because of Teen TItans Go! While the reboot does have some glaring flaws, the new PPG is nowhere near as bad as what Teen Titans Go! is now. As I said before, the producers of the new PPG do feel like they're trying to put a genuine attempt at effort in here, even if it's a bit unpolished at the moment. Whereas with Go!, not even the showrunners like it, and nor do they care about putting any effort into it. The only reason they're still working on it is because it's cheap to make and helps them get their paycheck faster.
  8. I know the NX controller "leaks" were proven to be fake, but call me crazy, I still want the NX to have something like this. https://youtu.be/t4eh-Cn3Pzk I understand, cost is a major concern, but Nintendo can get this tech for relatively cheap, then it could be pretty amazing.
  9. Usually when a show declines in quality, it stays that quality until it ends. But there are exceptions where a show can bounce back and be as good as it once was. What are some Cartoons that you feel, were revived from Seasonal Rot? The most recent example I feel, is Adventure Time. After Season 6 polarized, confused, and in some cases, bored people to death. It's current season returns the show to what originally made viewers fall in love with it back in the days of the Random Cartoons! Pilot. Gone is the pretentious philosophical garbage, the confusing nonsense with Orgalorg, the petty relationship drama, the overly pessimistic tone, and the needlessly convoluted plot arcs that get reconned as fast as they're brought up. Just Finn and Jake going on wacky Adventures with their friends. However, it was the Mini-series "Stakes" that breathed new life into the show. It was epic, it was funny, and it single handedly brought a lot of people back.
  10. Also, one last thing. USE USB CHARGING! - It boggles my mind how Nintendo STILL feels like it has to force proprietary AC chargers on you. The fact that the new 3DS doesn't even include charger is even more insulting. What's bizzare is that the Gamepad requires it's own charger, but the Pro controller for some reason, DOES charge with USB. Nearly every wirless and mobile device today uses USB charging, even Apple, as annoying as they are with their lightning cable BS, still let's you charge with USB.
  11. Even if it was a bad episode, one bad episode doesn't make the whole show bad. Every show is going to have an infamously bad at least once. If you ignore Horn Sweet Horn, every episode released so far has been meh, decent, or good. So the show is not off to a bad start despite that infamous episode. The show still has 33 episodes left in it's first season, there's still plenty of time for it to get better.
  12. While I'm not going to argue the quality of that particular episode. I will say that you cannot judge a whole show based off one episode. That may have been a bad episode, but the other episodes so far have ranged from Average to good. So all in all, the new show isn't bad so far, it just had a really bad episode. Good shows can have bad episodes. Even Pre-season 5 PPG had bad episodes.
  13. Like I said, gimmicks are fine as long as you know what you're doing with them. Nintendo had some good ideas for the Gamepad, but baring one or two exceptions, failed to justify it's existance. They made a really different and unique idea, but thought that excuses them from doing anything interesting with it. As useful and cool as the camera and TV control are, they aren't features the Gamepad really should have IMHO. Like I said, they could've cut out half of this excess bloat and the Gamepad Would've been a much better controller. IIRC, it was Emily Rogers who said it. She has been right before with things like the Nintendo direct leaks.
  14. I don't mind the NX having some sort of gimmick, just as long as it's well thought out, adds to the game, and supports more traditional controls if needed. The problem with the gamepad was that it had good ideas behind it, but instead of actually doing anything with them, Nintendo instead decided to bloat the gamepad with too many useless and unececary features. IR port, TV control, External port that was never used, camera, sensor bar, 6 in. screen. Seriously, they could've cut out half this stuff, and the gamepad would've been a much cheaper, not to mention much better controller because of it. Also, according to more recent rumors, it is in fact more powerful than the PS4, and that's from more credible sources.
  15. I think people are overreacting. While I have yet to see the episode myself, one bad episode, does not a bad show make. Then again, that's the internet for ya. If it gives people the opportunity to complain about anything for any petty reason they want, they'll take advantage of it.
  16. So the new Powerpuff Girls incarnation has just premiered. So far, people are mixed on it. Some loving it, some despising it, and some in the middle. As for where I stand, it's fine so far, but it does have some flaws, hopefully these will be ironed out in the future. We're only 6 episodes in, so things can always improve. I can say one thing, whether you love the new series or hate it, it's at least much better than Teen Titans Go! Though rough around the edges so far, there is a sincere attempt at quality here, unlike Teen Titans Go! where the crew just gave up halfway through season 1. It also helps that the show-runners, Nick Jennings and Bob Boyle have seen and are trying to honor the original series, again unlike Go!, where the creators never even seen a single episode of the original Teen Titans before working on it. So what do you think?
  17. I'm mainly looking forward to this show simply because I'm a sucker for ensamble casts. Having a large cast of colorful characters bounce off each other is usually fun to watch for me. If you want, the 1st episode is available on iTunes and Google Play for free.
  18. After the failure of the Wii U, Nintendo is ready to move on with the NX. There's been a lot of speculation and hope for this new platform, but I want to give my thought on what I want Nintendo to do with it. Have a clear vision, AND STICK TO IT - More so than lack of support and power, I think this was the Wii U's biggest problem. It was trying to be too many things at once, trying to be everything to everyone. As a result the Wii U winds up lacking an identity or vision of it's own. Does it wan't to be a casual system? a core system? a Nintendo fan system? a kids system? a family system? It's hard to tell when Nintendo kept changing their focus at the drop of a hat to the point where it felt aimless. So, make sure there's a clear, focused message this time. This brings me to... Make sure management is in order this time - This is also another big problem that can be traced back all the way to the late Wii days to be honest, where mangement at Nintendo was all over the place. I won't say too much here, but according to Dan Adelman, their former indie chief. To get anything done at the company, every division involved, including shareholders, have to be on board with the plan. The problem is that any one can shoot down ideas at any point. What resulted was a constant clashing of tradition vs. modernization, backwards practices, and the bloated, aimless mess the Wii U ended up as. Combine this with a complete lack of a clear direction for the company, as well as strained development staff and there's a recipie for disaster. Fourtanatley, they seem to be fixing this with the big restructure last year, as well as much of Yamauchi's old board members retiring. We'll have to see if this pans out. Modernization is one thing, but soulessly copy and pasting is another - Look, I want 3rd party support, I want robust online, I want competent hardware. I want all of that. What I DON'T want is just a PS4 with Mario games. For a company who has, for better or worse, always tried to push the boundiries of game controls and features, I expect more from Nintendo. Simply copy-pasting the PS4 is not only lazy, but it's also a cop out. It tells me that Nintendo can only get back on top if they carbon-copy the competition. The NX needs to feel modern, and it needs support, but it also needs ambition, and a unique identity. And Lastly... Go all out with 1st party games - I want to see less amiibo festivals, and more Splatoons. Nintendo's strength is in it's creative roster of developers. So be ambitious and innovative not just with hardware, but also software. They played it way too safe on the Wii U IMO, so hopefully the NX is the opposite. This is pretty much what I want out of the NX. Do you agree, what do you want to see?
  19. If you didn't already know, Chris Savino, who wrote for season 1 of MLP is currently working on his new show for Nickelodeon called The Loud House. It's premiering this May, and the first episode is avalible for free on iTunes and Google Play. I've seen it and, the show seems decent suprisingly. Chis Savino has always been hit and miss, so it's nice to see him doing some good stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpKlGOTofXI
  20. Children's Cartoons tend to feature kids, teenagers (especially), and in the case of talking animal and super hero shows, adults. But do you think there should be a children's cartoon where the protagonist(s) is a college student? I think a college character can make a good role model for kids, but should it?
  21. What is the most manic, chaotic, outlandish, and fastest-paced game you have played. It's got to be a game that constantly bombards the player with enimies, obstacles, weapons, gameplay styles, and bosses. A game where each level feels like an 8 hour Acton game crammed into 7 minnutes. And each level feels sporadic and moves in seemingly random directions. The closest I've played were the Sin & Punishment games.
  22. You may have noticed that many cartoons these days have been using younger and younger voice talent. From child voice actors, to just simply young actors. We're seeing a lot of fresh faces on the voice acting side. Meanwhile, long time veterans like Tara Strong, Tom Kenny, and Jeff Bennett are either getting significantly less work, or basically retired from the industry. Once upon a time, you couldn't find a cartoon that didn't have Tara Strong or Grey DelIsle in it in some way shape or form. Nowadays, they're either clinging to their roles in long running shows, or provide the voice for the rare background character. So will we see people like Kristian Schall and Sam Marian become the new Tara's and Tom's in the future?
  23. Disney is known for its animated features, and while I won't deny the quality of their best movies, I always felt their Creator Driven TV cartoons were boasts the brand's more risky and experimental side. The shows aren't always good, but they're at least creative. With the long awaited Kingdom Hearts 3 on the horizon, how would you feel if Disney or Square-Enix included Disney's TV animation properties in the game? Could you imagine Sora teaming up with Dipper Pines to fight the heartless, Rikku having an epic battle with Kim Possible, Roxas on summer vacation with Phineas and Ferb, or Kari getting buddy with Star Butterfly? Or hell they could throw in Pickle and Peanut as a sick joke. Disney Infinity has shown that Disney is willing to leverage properties outside of their animated movies, so what would your opinion be?
  24. At the end of Season 5 of MLP, Twilight decided to take Starlight Glimmer in as her apprentice in Friendship after causing a war between Equestria and King Sombra. Meanwhile on Steven Universe, Peridot rebelled against Yellow Diamond and ended up joining the Crystal Gems after realizing how precious life on earth is. With that said, which character do you prefer and which do you think had the better redemption
  25. By now, we know The Powerpuff Girls are getting a reboot. However, Craig McCracken has no involvement in the show, and all the girls have been recasted. Not to mention the only other "reboot" currently on Cartoon Network is Teen Titans Go! I can see why people are scared. Me? I'm not scared, nor am I hyping the show up. I'm interested to see if the show will be any good. Unlike Todlers and Titans, the people behind the reboot seem to know what they're doing as they apparently grew up with the show, and judging from the screens, they seem to capture the spirit of the original. As opposed to Titans where the creators never even watched an episode of the original series and turned it into a souless cash grab designed to pander to children. What I expect will happen is the show will take the Steven Universe route by having a bigger focus on story arcs and character development, while still having a playful tone. In which case, I actually wouldn't mind. With that said, what are your thoughts?
