  1. orrrrr, if they do (Luna forbid), they should go the route of making it a callback to Catherine the Great, where she died trying to have sex with a horse (horse crushing her, as it was being lowered on top of her, I think?)

This is one of those historical "facts" that everybody seems to "know", but is totally false.

Catherine the Great was a pretty effective ruler, and quite openly had many lovers. Both these facts led to a certain amount of resentment amongst the aristocracy, who at the time tended to think that female monarchs should be quiet little women who deputized the running of the country to male advisers. In that kind of environment, ugly rumours can get started.

The real truth is that she died in her bed, after having had a stroke on the toilet. (Strokes, heart attacks, and other infarctions suffered on the toilet are not uncommon.) Rather an embarrassing way to go, but not as bad as the rumours.

Although I don't think Flash and Twilight are likely to have a baby in the series, if they did, I think the obvious choice for baby names is:

    Celestia and Luna

Two little alicorn foals, born a few years apart. Of course, during their infancy, some big villain would then come along, and to antagonize Twilight the villain would separate Twilight's dear foals from her by sending them back in time several thousand years,

  2. I really can't see them making much of the Twilight Sparkle / Flash Sentry relationship in FIM. Yes, we like MLP, but we're not really the primary target audience. The target audience is 2-11 year old girls, and adding a romantic relationship into the plot line is likely to alienate a large part of the younger end of that demographic. (And from a commercial perspective, the younger end is the more important to keep on board - they're likely to remain fans for longer.)

Theoretically they could add the relationship, but gloss over it as "not really a big thing". But that would seem artificial to me. How can a romantic relationship of the story's protagonist not be a big thing when the whole plot of the show is based on relationships?

In a potential EG3, sure! EG is aimed at an older audience, so they could go there. If they did, they wouldn't necessarily need to work the relationship into FIM too - the two Flash Sentrys are in fact different characters in different universes, and haven't been shown to have any knowledge of each others' existence.

  3. Any chance you could do one for this filly? (I haven't come up with a name for her yet.) She's called Vital Spark. She's super-brainy, cute as a barrel of kittens, and occasionally a bit of a prankster.

I couldn't get the hair colour quite right in pony creator. It's intended to be a little like this but with blonde streaks.

    Thanks!

  4. This is just an outline of an idea. If I had loads of time on my hands I would write it as a fanfic, but alas that is not the case.

Queen Crysalis journeys to Tartarus to free Tirek, and along the way discovers a severely weakened King Sombra. She explains her plan to them: the ponies have defeated them all by uniting with each other, but they should be able defeat the ponies by working together.

Meanwhile in the human world, Fluttershy, Pinkie, Applejack, Rarity, and Rainbow Dash are preparing to go on holidays, each with their respective families. Sunset Shimmer doesn't have any family in the human world, so instead she's got a summer job working for Princess Celestia, doing various odd jobs around the school. (She'd done a good job rebuilding the ruined school after EG1.)

Back in Equestria, Tirek, Sombra, Crysalis, and hundreds of changelings descend upon Twilight's castle. Before the ponies can use the magic of friendship against them, Tirek uses magic to imprison them all in cages, and send the cages to the ends of Equestria. They're too far apart to use the magic of friendship. However, Spike manages to deflect the beam of magic aimed at Pinkie, allowing her a few precious seconds to escape up a tower. She is pursued by Sombra. She finds herself in the room with the mirror, and with nowhere else to go flees through it. Sombra enters the room to find it empty.

Pinkie emerges in the human world, panicking, and runs straight into Sunset Shimmer. Together they hatch a plan to get the human Fluttershy, Pinkie (can't have Too Many Pinkies, right?), Applejack, Rarity, and Rainbow Dash together to go to Equestria and defeat the evil alliance. The hardest part will be finding the human Twilight Sparkle and convincing her.

Cue various scenes of them going to fetch the girls. To convince human Twilight Sparkle, they play a song together and become half-ponies.

The girls line up and go through the portal, emerging in Equestria as ponies. Sunset Shimmer comes too. They find the land covered in swarms of changelings, but manage to defeat them and Queen Crysalis quite easily. The rainbow magic that radiates from Canterlot frees the real ponies, and they are swept back to Canterlot. Magically. Sunset Shimmer helps free Princesses Celestia and Luna from the cocoons they'd been imprisoned in, mending the relationship between Sunset and Celestia.

Pinkie to camera: well, that took less time that I expected.

[Audience looks at watches: hmmm... yes... it did. We were expecting at least another half hour to this film.]

Twilight asks the inevitable question, "but where are Tirek and King Sombra?"

Celestia: "But I thought you knew...?! They followed Pinkie through the mirror!"

The humans, Sunset, and the Mane 6 go to Earth to find Tirek and Sombra preparing some kind of evil plot (I'm a little fuzzy on the details). The Mane 6 try to use the magic of friendship to defeat them, but it's not powerful enough in this world. The humans and sunset try to use rainbow magic, but that doesn't work either. But using both together (I'm guessing all standing in a line, ponies one side, humans the other, Sunset in the middle) works. Yay.

  5. right, and how long had SS already been in the human world before the events of EG1?

But the impression I have is that SS is significantly older than Twilight ... her time as Celestia's student was pretty far back, around or before we see Twilight as a filly.

EG1 certainly indicates that Sunset Shimmer was Celestia's protégé before Twilight Sparkle came along, suggesting she's older than Twilight.

I don't think this is necessarily a plot hole. Rather that when you're jumping between two parallel universes, you cannot be assured that their timelines will correspond perfectly. Not only could one timeline be moving faster, but they might not even move at consistent speeds relative to each other.

Consider the Chronicles of Narnia. In The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe the children spend decades in Narnia, but return to Earth of the same day they left. C.S. Lewis' Narnian timeline shows that year 1 in Narnia corresponds with 1900 on Earth, year 300 in Narnia with 1930 on Earth, and year 1000 in Narnia with 1940 on Earth. So between 1900 and 1930, 30 years of Earth time corresponded to 300 years of Narnian time (a 1:10 ratio), but between 1930 and 1940, 10 years of Earth time corresponded to 700 years of Narnian time (a 1:70 ratio).

Frankly if you're jumping between universes, expecting timelines to match up is simply being unreasonable! You should just be thankful that the laws of physics are roughly the same in each universe.

  6. 3.  Have the first movie end with human Pinkie Pie going through the portal into Equestria, setting up a sequel about her adventures in a magical pony world and getting her back home again.

Yes, human Pinkie Pie going to Equestria would be great. How would she look in Equestria? Presumably she'd take on a pony form, but wouldn't look identical to the pony Pinkie Pie (just as human Twilight and human-form pony Twilight look different). She might not even be an earth pony.

  7. One reason I can think of off the top of my head is her occupation.

This was always my interpretation. Discord is part goat, part horse, part snake, part lion, part eagle, part bat, and part god-knows-what-else, so who better to tame him than Fluttershy?

  8. Kids shows do occasionally kill off characters. The Lion King was mentioned above. The Princess and the Frog is another example.

I think they could quite easily kill off Luna, Celestia, or other supporting characters, but to avoid alienating a significant portion of the fanbase, the death would have to be meaningful and help progress the other characters. More minor characters could be killed off just as easily as The Simpsons killed of Maud Flanders - think Granny Smith.

Killing off one of the mane six is a trickier proposition. If they did that they'd unavoidably lose fans. However, making such a brave change and doing it well could also help cement other fans. Swings and roundabouts.

They could kill off Rarity as part of a multi-episode plot which involved her sacrifice being meaningful and somehow helping save her friends, and/or Equestria. Of course for the FIM formula to keep working, they'd need to find another character to fill her hooves. The obvious choice would be Sweetie Belle. Her gaining her cutie mark and taking Rarity's place in the group could form part of the plot line. As much as I am fond of Rarity, part of me would really like to see a plot like that.

The same plot line could alternatively work for Applejack and Applebloom.

  9. My Favourite Mane 6 Pony: Pinkie Pie

How did you find MLP Forums?: Google.

How you became a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic: Watching it with my kids.

Blank Flanks can't vote in polls?! Haven't the Cutie Mark Crusaders taught us not to be so prejudiced against Blank Flanks? Don't we blank flanks have endless potential?
