Doctor Steel was a fella whose music I infrequently kept my eye on for several years. He was an experimental/industrial/hip-hop/rock musician who, according to Doctor Steel lore, was a mad scientist looking to make the world a more whimsical place.

Unfortunately he retired a couple years ago. However, we can still bask in his villainous heroic glory!

I've always enjoyed the Doc's odd mix of cabaret styles with industrial and rock-based music. This is a prime example of that style. (some songs veer off in different directions than this)

Yo, I just thought I'd share a few of my favorite blogs on Tumblr. So yeah. Here's a list. It's in no particular order.

    -Always Having Juice: http://alwayshavingjuice.tumblr.com/
A blog featuring a redesigned and ever-so-slightly characteristically changed version of the Sonic universe. Sonic is Jewish, Knuckles doesn't speak much English, Amy is no longer a damsel in distress, Dr. Eggman ISN'T evil, Vector and Espio are a gay couple, etc. It's a really well-done alternate-universe ask blog.

    -Garfield Minus Garfield: http://garfieldminusgarfield.net/
It's a collection of Garfield comic strips where none of the main characters exist except Jon Arbuckle. It's a really depressing and interesting look into the psyche of the guy.

    -Magics Time: http://timetomakedamagics.tumblr.com/
An ask blog for Photo Finish. It's really funny.

-Every Day Louie/Drawing A Day/The Art of Louie Zong: http://louiezong.com/
Unique minimalistic artwork every day! :D

    -Trolling Chris Brown: http://trollingchrisbrown.tumblr.com/
What can I say? It's a blog on trolling Chris Brown! Sadly it's not updated nowadays.

-A Moment of Archie Sonic: http://amomentofarchiesonic.tumblr.com/
A blog making fun of the sillier moments of the Archie Sonic comics. Not updated anymore either.

That's about it, really! I don't wanna clutter this post up, so I'll keep it at this. Later, guise.

DIS BE ANOTHER ONE OF DEM VENT POSTS, HOMES.

In fear of being criticized and/or ridiculed (yah, I'm paranoid. DEAL WITH IT! :S), I'm gonna be spoiler-ing the main bits of this blog post. If you're not here to give me advice or just in general be cool, y'all might as well not read any further.

If you read that, thanks for reading and please give some input.

...is something I cannot do. I've always dreamed of at least having a teeny-tiny little following of peeps who dig my work. I can say without a doubt that that has not happened in the past 4 years I've had a "presence" on the internet. I managed at one point to accumulate over 100 subscribers on my first YouTube channel, but it was pretty much useless, as, even when I posted stuff related to the apparent reason they subscribed, they didn't give a crap about me or my stuff. At least that's how it seemed.

I've "restarted" a couple times, in fact. Once last year and once this year. Why? Because I was going nowhere. Ever since, I've uploaded various things to various places, tried to make friends, etc. It's gotten me a few favs and several watchers/subscribers, but again, not many of them seem to care.

Don't interpret this post the wrong way. It's not a pity party post. It's a vent post. And possibly a suggestion post. Does anyone here have any ideas on how to get noticed?

Someday I aspire to be an animator. I've got so many ideas I'd love to bring to life. Unfortunately I'm still a total n00b at the whole idea. One thing I'd like to do if I ever learn how to animate, though, is make fan-animations for songs I dig. Here are a few (a lot actually) of the songs I'd like to animate.

There are some others, but I can't think of them off the top of my head right now. I'll update this if I ever do think of them!

I doubt that anyone here HASN'T heard of this game, but just in case here's a short description:
Cave Story is retro-styled action-adventure-platformer-metroidish game. In it you play as a robot with
amnesia and go through cave after cave and watch the story unfold.

The game's been released and rereleased various times. It started as a freeware PC game, then was ported to WiiWare with updated graphics and music, then was ported to DSiWare without any extra features but a speedrun challenge for a level, then then was re-ported to PC with the same new graphics and music from the WiiWare version plus new game modes, then was REMADE in 2.5D for the 3DS, then the original version was ported to the 3DS eShop with some of the features of the WiiWare version. Needless to say, this game's had a lot of ports.

I freaking love Cave Story. I own both the original freeware version and the PC re-port, and I'd like to check out the 3DS version.

I've beaten the game about 5 times since my discovery of it last month. There are so many factors that keep me coming back. Some people think Cave Story's overrated, but I really think not. Ingenious level design, fantastic music, lovely retro graphics (made even better with the double-resolution graphics from the WiiWare port), and freaking fun gameplay. Oh, and the story. The story is great. It all unfolds in the most interesting of ways, starting relatively simple and over time turning into something actually pretty deep. It's not called Cave STORY for nothing.

I really MUST recommend this game. It's one of the best things I've discovered in a while. Check out the original freeware version then get the Steam version. It's worth it.

    ALBUM PAGE: http://englishgardens.bandcamp.com/album/english-gardens

English Gardens is a breakoff project by the bassist and drummer of the indie "beard rock" band Paper Astronomer.

I've known about both of these bands for quite some time, due to the fact that the guitarist of Paper Astronomer is the current guitarist of my favorite band, Falling Up. I hadn't checked out English Gardens till yesterday, though. And heck, the only reason I really checked this album out is because it's free for a short bit. That said, I'm blown away by this short EP.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To start things off, let's talk about the style: It's really stripped-down. That's due to the fact that it's written by a bassist and a drummer, and the only USE bass and drums. And vocals. They're not the main attraction though. The main attraction is that not only do they use solely bass and drums, but they make it REALLY FREAKING atmospheric. It's probably the most full-sounding music I've heard composed with only two instruments. The oddest part about their style is the vocals, which are reminiscent of La Dispute, though more melodic. Sometimes their a little off-key, but somehow it works well here.

The tracks: There are 3 tracks on this EP. "Lickety-Split," "GoldField," and "Fur Gloves." The first track is the most repetitive of them, but has the most dreamy chords out of all of them. The second track has a rather post-hardcore sound to it. The third track is the darkest and my favorite out of all of them.

Final rating: 5/5. 10/10. Perfect. There are no downsides to this album for me. Despite the repetitiveness of the first track, nothing can detract from the sheer style and slickness this band has to offer. I look forward to their next release.

So here's the deal: The band Thrice has this song called A Song For Milly Michaelson. It's based on that flick I never saw called The Boy Who Could Fly.

I discovered today that Thrice also sometimes performed live renditions of the song using a more lively style than the actual song. Unfortunately there are NO fully clean live or studio recordings of the song. So I took it upon myself to attempt to clean up the best recording I could find on YouTube. So without further ado, here's the ORIGINAL STUDIO RECORDING of the song:

Here's the live performance I found of the song:

And finally, the mostly-cleaned-up version I did using Audacity and LMMS:
    http://www.mediafire.com/listen/qdefby9ovfo5grc/SONG_4_MILLY.mp3

I used the Noise Removal function from Audacity, the DJ EQ plugin in LMMS, a teeny-tiny bit of reverb, and a compressor to keep it from constantly clipping.

I'm DEFINITELY going to use this to clean up more crap, because it worked surprisingly well. I mean, it's not perfect. Far from it, in fact. BUT, it's far better than always hearing chatter always in the background.

Seeing how Samrules350 added an entry on himself, I figured I would too! I, letterONE, am the electronic part of the band that appears to be called Lady and Gentlecolts. Very, very clever name, BTW.

So what I do in the band is all the fancy electronic things, namely drums, beeps, boops, etc.
