  1. I just say screw blocking I buff my health and healing and charge in with my axe.

I respect that. One of the reasons I love Monster Hunter is how every hunter has their own style and tactical preferences. I'd like to hunt with ya and see your best switchaxe in action, but I assume you're far into G rank. I'm not even done with a third of offline low rank!

  2. Another day, another awesome afternoon of hunting! I'm postponing my quest for the Barroth armor set, for the sake of my sanity.

Blocking who needs blocking only people that like to survive fights that's who!
*charges in with Switch axe flailing wildly*

I love blocking! XD It just makes you feel badass when you stand firm from a hit that would send anyone else flying. This is pretty much related to my love for tanking in RPGs.

I love that guard points exist on the charge blade, but I can't master the timing at all!  >_>

  3. Thunder is a good character   I main Sabrewulf  :P In any fighting game I've always preferred brute strength over tactics and sabrewulf seems to fit that play style  ;) Despite it probably being an awful one in most situations XD

Awesome. It was common to fight Sabre online during season 1, but I don't see much of him anymore on ranked matches. At least he's a unique pick, then! I'd say the same about Thunder; too many people avoid giving the big lug a chance, because of his slow movement speed. The absurd amount of damage he can do with a fully leveled damage ender makes up for this.

  4. I demand objectivity for love horse and shield horse! Repent and change your votes!

While I do like Rarity and Sweetie Belle, I was disappointed to see my favorite pony out of the entire cast and his wife losing against them. I'm not upset at all, but how can a team of a unicorn with decent combat prowess and a foal who'd rather use diplomacy take down BOTH a powerful unicorn/ royal guard captain and an ALICORN?

Ugh, I shouldn't read into it too much. It's just a cute and fun voting thread, anyway.

  5. The original I have never played the One version.

In my opinion, you're missing out on something awesome! :o  It's pretty faithful to the original games, and its combo system is more accessible; especially the auto doubles. I suggest giving the game a try, if you have an Xbox One. It can be downloaded for free, and you can play as one character at no price; the free character rotates monthly or earlier, I believe.  It's possible to eventually play as all of the characters at least once for free, because of that feature!

The new Killer Instinct...love it and can play it well in my opinion  :)

Nice! Who do you main, 1Bit? I've been stuck with Thunder (I wonder why he isn't a chief, anymore?) since day one, because he's the only grappler at the moment. I'm glad that'll change by the end of the month with the next character of season 2.

  6.

If you get a bronze VE ticket you can trade that for a head depending on where you trade it. I personally prefer Gravios armour as that has GaurdUp and Guard+1, gem that to +2 and you can block more or less anything XD (stamina permitting ofc XD)

Really? That's awesome to know, thanks! I just attempted to get the Barroth armor set the moment I saw it, mostly due to nostalgia!  :D

I didn't know about the Gravios armor set and that it has GaurdUp AND Gaurd+1, though. That's a pleasant surprise. Judging by its intimidating appearance  , would I be incorrect if I assume that the armor set is obtained a bit further in the game; perhaps at the mid-game point?

When I get the chance today, I'll try getting those VE tickets, though.

  7. Fighting games eh?

I was good in Tekken 6, using Bob/Leo/Law. Gotta love those powerpunch. I don't juggle unfortunately.

Then Street Fighter 4 came in. I was good with Zangief ONLY

Then Blazblue. I was pretty good with Tager.

Then P4A. Following my previous 2 mains, I chose Kanji.

I did play Smash Bros and I like playing Ike/Meta Knight. (YES I KNOW MK IS OP)

For Playstation All Star I used Sly Cooper.

Forgive me if I'm wrong about this assumption, but are you a fan of grapplers, too? If so, 360 degree motion warriors unite!  I can never get used to 720 degree motions, though; even when using my arcade stick!

It's been a long time since I played a fighting game they were never my strong point in gaming. My favorite I ever played though was Killer Instict that game is soo much fun and now I really wanna play it again..

I really love KI, myself! Were you talking about the original games, or the reboot on Xbox One?

  8. hqdefault.jpg

The badass gentleman in this picture is Michael; or by his title, Michael of the Holy Eye. He's a bit similar to the playable priest character in the game, but he's a unique character called an Insader. Basically, he's a Paladin that fights with his bare hands like a Monk. indisputably my favorite NPC in the game.

I chose this image, because I wanted to see a reminder of my favorite MMORPG, Dungeon Fighter Online; or in South Korea, "Dungeon And FIghter" (DNF).  In my opinion, it succeeded in combining the elements of a 2-d Arcade Beat 'Em Up with that of an online RPG extremely well. Nexon originally hosted the game for North Americans to play for a while, but they weren't exactly dedicated on advertising or updating the game properly; They also didn't try to keep the playerbase updated enough. After a couple of years, including almost a full year that had little to no content updates, the game shut down. Pretty much all of the players, including, myself were ABSOLUTELY pissed, but then my anger ended up being disbelief and devastation.

To my surprise and joy, the original developers of DNF posted on Facebook that they plan on attempting to revive the dead version of the game, and making it playable GLOBAL; not just only for North American players.  They announced this a year and a half ago, while ACTUALLY keeping followers up to date on the game's status as time progressed. The beta test begins in two weeks, and you can bet your life savings that I plan on taking part in it! :fiery:

  9. I'm calling it quits for today after mostly capturing Gypceros the whole time.  Sadly, it still refuses to let go of its noggin. :okiedokielokie:

It looks like I won't be getting the complete Barroth armor set anytime soon... Why are you so close yet so far away, Guard+? Why? :(

  10. The group I play with luckily already has all the books, that's the main thing I'd hate about being Dm is having to be the book keeper lol

Otherwise I've always been good with coming up with stories on the spot and making longer stories when I have time to prep. I'm also in the process of making what i'm calling elder scrolls D&D, where I will let anything happen with full free roam and changing elements within the world that can create quests and obstacles.

Anyways if you want more suggestions on this character or more in the future feel free to ask.

The last game I DM'd had free roaming; it was a ton of weight off my back using improvising instead of pre-written ideas! After I get the hang of making encounters on the fly, using that approach will be very fun for me.

I appreciate your suggestions, and I'll be sure to ask for more help next time I need feedback! :)

  11. Generally yes but most of the royal guards is actually comprised of all three races, and some Unicorns could be naturally stronger. Like how some earth ponies can be frail.

You could do a backstory that originates from him being born into a non military/strong family, which one day a member of the guard could of save him (guard could be a unicorn who shows how strong he is. So perhaps stopping a cart that is rolling down a hill.) Seeing this act of bravery, selflessness and strength is what could of been the driving force for Silver's admiration for the guard.

While the thought of unicorns or himself being physically weak is in the back of his head he trains diligently  to prove himself and everyone else wrong, as he works to his dream of being a guard.

Another thing you could do is remove the dexterity flaw and make him not as strong as earth pony guards. that could be why is magic is based around ward magic, possibly to such a degree of control where he can veil himself in magical armor with the same potential as his wards. but he will be unable to use another ward while focusing so much on the veiled armor.

Lol going back to the "i play D&D" I'm also a DM/campaign creator. So you pitch an idea I can freaking run with it lol

Nice! I actually really like this idea, and I'm now leaning toward having Silver being a unicorn instead! I never really considered the ponies of either race that are born with outside of the norm traits; that's very good insight! I also really like your idea of his light magic canceling out his active dark magic when used, or vice versa.

I didn't know you DM'd, either Chip! That job I'm sort of familiar with, but I know how demanding it can be!

  12. This is good, I'm just glad that you didn't make him part dragon.  For an Earth Pony, it may be a little strange, but I'd believe that it would fit in with Canon quite well.

Thanks for the feedback! Also, you think he'd actually fit Canon, AND fit it WELL? :o  That's a really good surprise to me; it makes me really happy to hear that!

  13. In my opinion I think Silver ward is a good character, although with his name and the name referencing his talent makes me think he'd be better as a Unicorn. With a similar ability like Shining armor. While shining can create a defensive barrier big enough to protect a city Silver could be more adept at creating small direction wards that can protect crowds and individuals. Which would be a desired ability of royalty as a personal guard.

But I've made characters and I know what it's like to have someone saying you should change him, so yea just an idea :)

Shining was definitely a pony that I had in mind, when I was creating Silvar Ward. I actually wanted him to be a unicorn, to reduce the controversy, but I wanted him to also be resilient and strong. Forgive my ignorance, but aren't unicorns the least physically capable of pony races (If the pony tribes existed on Earth, this would be blatant racism  ) ?

  14. This is very wordy, and overall, a VERY long read!

Hello. I've had many ideas of an original character during the past few years, but only two made the cut. I'd like some insight into whether or not these characters are poorly written, bland, or given too much ability in comparison to their flaws. On a quick side note, this my first forum post that I've included ideas that I wanted to use, so I hope that I don't give a negative or remotely odd impression. I also wanted to mention that some concepts are borrowed from well known fantasy worlds (Dungeons and Dragons, Pathfinder, etc) All in all, feel free to give criticism at any time or pace.

Edit: I didn't expect the bio to be this long (I apologize for that, by the way)! I'll eventually introduce the second character.

First, I'll introduce Silver Ward, an earth pony. He's named for his talent, which encompasses most of the events he's experienced and will experience. Since his youth as a colt, he always admired the Royal Guard and their selfless sacrifice for the average civilian. For future purposes, I'd say my official age for him would be either 19 or 20. At either age, he still hasn't achieved his goal of been enlisted, but it would be wrong to say that he hasn't at least caught the Guard's attention.

Silver is physically capable and durable, like the majority of the earth pony population; he may even be in the above average range of such qualities. He has more of a wide, but not bulky, athletic build rather than lean. While he has his gifts, he also has flaws. Dexterity is something he clearly lacks. This can cause unfortunate occurrences such as applying too much pressure to a box holding a gift meant for a friend, or even breaking a seat and landing on the ground back-first. Not to mention his awkwardness around others, due to his constant struggle to vocalize his thoughts; it would be an understatement to say that it nearly always occurs during foreign or uncommon situations. The few people who get to know Silver have seen that his compassionate, noble, and honorable personality more than makes up for his shortcomings.

Silver's worse flaws include his very strict moral compass, and short temper in certain situations; especially when facing or witnessing unfair conflicts that are often than not involving somepony being outnumbered. His cutie mark is a shield that's half white and half black, with one dragon on each half facing the other's direction.

If you wanted to skim the text and reach the controversial point, here it is below.

Here's where I implemented the fantasy elements; It's well known within the fandom that mythological and fantastic creatures exist in FIM's canon universe. While dragons do exist as well, I wanted to implement two significant dragons to the mix: Bahamut and Tiamat. I planned on having him encounter both dragons, and am even leaning on implying that he encountered them 1 year ago. A stubborn search for a missing foalhood friend locked Silver in having no choice but to form a pact with not just one of the dragons, but another pact with the other; thus, he's trapped in serving two very powerful beings that are mortal enemies with each other.

    BIGGEST POTENTIAL PLOT PROBLEM BELOW!

The situation isn't all negative, however. His pact with Bahamut enabled use of "divine light magic", allowing weak but useful healing ability, and also great potential for abjuration or defense oriented magic. His pact with Tiamut granted use of "DIvine dark magic", which includes a few dangerous offensive spells and gradually growing potential for spells that rely on his life-force(the self harm ranges from small to devastating). An unfortunate side effect of having both pacts brought about the problem of his personality sometimes shifting from one extreme to its opposite; he could be enthusiastic about helping his friends one day, then spontaneously shifting to secluding himself in his home for days.

This is pretty much the gist of my idea of Silver Ward. I wanted to know if I'm screwing up or making an overpowered character because of the divine magic situation.  I'm trying to limit the utility of spells that evolve to only include defensive light magic, and life-force dependent dark magic; everything else remains static (level 1 healing permanently). This all was heavily inspired by the idea of a Paladin/Blackguard hybrid. What do any of you think? Since he's an earth pony, does this part override the idea of a balanced OC?

PS: I am VERY sorry for the wall of text!

    :(

  15. I'm been racking my brain on this OC i'm making for a while incapable of coming up with a name for him.

He is a young pegasus colt who was born into a family that has a lineage of raising wonderbolts. My OC's father is a retired Wonderbolt while his sister is a current wonderbolt. While most of the family ends up being involved in the wonderbolts my OC during his training at a young age fell from the sky due to exhaustion. luckily he was saved but is now afraid of heights. His true calling is going to be alchemy which he will eventually discover. So i've been trying to come up with a two part name that suggests to his wonderbolt lineage and to his future talent. So if anybody can come up with a nice name i'd appreciate the assistance.

    Father: Defiant Flash

    Mother: Dazzling Flash

[sorry I'm terrible with color names]

Fur color: kind of pale blue

Mane color: (two tone) pale green and a yellowish green

Cutie mark: two flasks with one pouring into another (currently blank flank)

If the two part name has to have a specific order (lineage then future talent), then I'm stumped. If not:

    Molecular Legacy

    Elixir Glory

Edit: Just came up with a few ones with lineage first:

    Renowned Panacea

    Heroic Chemistry

That's all I can think of at the moment. I'll come up with others if you'd like me to.

  16. I've pretty much solo'd through the village quests, and reached G-Rank on the Port. I'm taking a break from 3U, and I jumped ship to 4U; While I started a few days ago, I'd love to hunt with some friends and actually experience co-op. I'm even curious to see how crazy co-op egg runs are! I mostly hunt with the Lance and Charge Blade, with the sword and shield as a secondary behind the two(I just love knight/paladin-ish weapons). I'm stuck on low rank for now, but if anyone wants to co-op, please tell me!

    Update:

I've been stuck capturing Gypceros for more than four hours now to get a Gypceros head. No luck so far. Since I main lance, I was beyond excited to see the Barroth armor set make a return in 4U. I think everybody can now guess what monster part I need to make the full set!  ^_^  I'm just gonna keep trying for now.

Also, are there any more hunters around here? Multiplayer hunting would be a nice distraction from low rank grinding. ;)

  17. Hopefully the answer to this isn't obvious to everyone and their grandma. I was kinda curious, considering that a thread that I'm very interested in doesn't get much recent posts. I'd like to ask, is thread bumping against the forum rules or frowned upon? Thanks, and I apologize if this question has already been asked and answered.

  18. I've never heard of the anime, but with my conveniently discovered sleuthing ability, I believe the character in that image is Mahiru Banba from the anime called "Akuma No Riddle" or Devil's Riddle. Hopefully, I'm correct.

    All aboard the Nope Train!

....Yeah. Dilated pupils, eyebrows curved downwards, and blood (very unnecessary, by the way) on their face; the usual. Higurashi not only nearly killed my interest toward watching anime, but also reminded me why the horror genre is often a turn off for me. I suppose it's because of my introverted, altruistic nature, though. Regardless of the ending, quite a lot of the events that took place still bother me.

I don't know if it's just me, but I can't see the picture that you posted, Candy Star.

  21. Hello new pony, and welcome to the MLP forums the best site in existence. I know you will love it here since you are no longer a lurker...lol. This site is awesome, and I am sure everypony will agree so sit back have fun, and enjoy.

Thanks, Poetic Stone! I totally agree, this forum is very awesome! I'm happy to be here!

Ah yes...another Applejack fan enters the fold  :toldya: Excellent.... *Maniacal Laugh*

All joking aside, welcome to the forums! Hope you have a wonderful time here, meet some people and generally, get involved!  :icwudt:

Thanks, 1Bit! And yeah, I'm totally a fan of AJ! However, I wonder if I'm part of the minority, majority, or in between? I haven't checked recent polls, so I don't really know the order of the Mane Six in popularity.

Very excited to have another Applejack lover! Welcome and have a wonderful time here! (≧∇≦)/

Thanks, Uncle Apples! I see you're an AJ fan too!

  22. Hello, Amazing_Dashie_Girl! As a Brony, I'd say Pegasisters are awesome; I haven't seen a single one so far that makes me think otherwise! Male or female, having a good friend is truly an amazing thing; Bronies and Pegasisters are one of the few fandom groups that I have a LOT of respect for.

Honestly, I'm probably in the minority of people in the world that would wait and let their future partner come to them (I'd have the same approach toward cutie marks too, if I were a pony! ^_^ ) Other than personal preferences that are a must, It wouldn't bother me too much if my future somepony wasn't either a pegasister, or a gamer.

All in all, just like Bronies, Pegasisters make this fandom the awesome group that it is!
