  1. I try my best, but sure Im wrong.

I think the Cheese Sandwich one is a stretch considering that we haven't heard Weird Al has come back to voice a character and the silhouette doesn't really fit his mane style.

The pony you believe is Sunset, I'm nearly 100% sure is Starlight Glimmer. Because of her placement near the Mane 6, I suspect she'll be reformed by the end of the finale.

The one you believe is Coco Pommel is possible. Interesting idea. :)

And I agree with you on the Pies.

No real confirmation on Starlight Glimmer reform but I really REALLY don't want that to happen. Discord is how you do a villain reform, done over the course of time and with thier former enemies still not being 100% comfortable with them. If the CMC get thier cutie mark in the alternative future that is a massive cop out. Mane 6 families were confirmed bur a Shining Armor Cadence filly is unexpected but the cake seems to suggest that

Yeah if the CMC gained their cutie marks only in that alternate universe, it would be very disappointing. I hope the growth they gain during the latter half of the season will actually culminate in them realizing their destinies! :D

I don't know how I feel about Starlight being reformed. I'll wait until I see how they deal with it. If the same type of writing that they put into crafting Starlight's character is put into her reformation, I'd be fine with it.

There's also the silhouette in front of Cadence that looks like a stroller that would indicate to me that a filly and, of course, many many toys are on the way.

    REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

    (I sporadically lurk /r9k/ and /mlp/.  -_-)

Seriously, though, 4chan outside of 4chan isn't that fun and could easily turn very wrong, but if you want to create a mini-/mlp/ here, start piling up the generals and being elitist about your tastes.

  3. BTW, can you recognize some of the ponies in the poster? I think i see Pinkies Family and Starlight Glimmer. But that is it.

That's all I can recognize save

The silhouette in front of Cadence looks like a stroller facing them (wheels on the floor) so Meghan's "maybe" at comic-con was her way of avoiding the question after all (and perhaps a heartache on the part of the fandom). I'm pretty sure one of the silhouette's has to be Fluttershy's brother. I'm guessing the one right behind Cadence but it could be one of the ones closer to Fluttershy.

I have no idea who these characters are:

Since these all seem to be ponies we've heard about thus far or recognize previously they might be Orchard Blossom on the right and Lena Hall's character on the left, but that's just speculation.

Looks like Starlight's getting reformed, CMC get cutie marks (at least in alternate universe where Starlight prevents Rainboom), Shining and Cadence have a filly, and lots of Mane 6 family members (the Pies and Fluttershy's brother that were mentioned before in panels).

  5. I don't know if this was discussed earlier but the way Twilight's past conception of friendship was altered in this episode made me feel a bit uneasy. I think it works however since it isn't such a drastic change and it allowed the episode to have a much more idealistic and cheerier tone than if they left Twilight as she was. I talk about it here if anyone cares: https://mlpforums.com/blog/2538/entry-17458-the-problem-i-had-with-amending-fences/

    Love to hear your thoughts.

  6. Spike has great potential as a character, not only because his childlike and boyish nature starkly contrasts the other main characters who either know their role (the Mane 6) or who explore their role in a differing way (the CMC) but also because of his inner conflict that fits the show's overall idea.

Season 1 established Spike as a young, compassionate boy, depicted with his cute and innocent illusions of grandeur at the prospect of saving his crush in "A Dog and Pony Show" or his immature attitude over the idea of going to the Gala in "The Ticket Master". It however did little to develop him as a character beyond giving him identifiable traits and good potential. "Lesson Zero" further expanded upon Twilight and Spike's relationship in a meaningful way that made me see Spike as more than just Twilight's assistant as I had in the show's premiere but more as a family member.

"Dragon Quest" promised something very bold with Spike, however, by introducing him into a possible saga of self-exploration. He had to struggle with his inner nature, with his desires to be accepted by those he loved and by those like him, and with he sees himself as and who he wants to be. Unfortunately, the episode had several problems, the major being with how it just turned out with him dropping the struggle, simply accepting the prior life he had because of the outright disgust he held for the dragons' comportment--but it never related that contempt back to him so he never gained anything as a character.

MLP has the ability to investigate this relatable issue through him very well, fleshing him out on the level of, hopefully, Rarity. :proud: And it is in MLP's grasp and theme to deal with them as the show has always been about individuality and bringing your unique talents to form beautiful things (ironically the gem statue in "Princess Spike" did a better job depicting this than Spike has throughout the series  :okiedokielokie: ).

But what they could have done through Spike, it seems they are doing for Discord. As much as I love Discord, he now has the role of attempting to strike the difficult and important balance between finding acceptance and finding oneself, such that you don't lose your individuality or hurt the people you care about. Discord's reformation arc thus far has spanned only a few episodes but has done more with this familiar dilemma than Spike has for it throughout the series. Spike has huge potential to make it heart-warming and exceptional because of his position as an outsider living amongst ponies and also his young age and innocent outlook on life could allow for a satisfying and somewhat elaborate Bildungsroman for this adorable dragon we all love. :mustache:

It seems Spike is nothing but a husk of a character, allowing the writers to use him as they please. :( I really wish for a future episode, perhaps "Brotherhooves Social" (Shining and Spike bonding over hoofball would be amazing if it came to fruition), to further consider Spike's initial doubts with himself, delving into that superficial introspection he went through in "Dragon Quest". This could result in him becoming his own character rather than one solely reliant on relationships with other ponies and who acts as the vessel to convey the humor and lesson of a poorly-didactic episode.

  7. To thank Skyhouse Publications for sending the book, the forums for hosting the Q&A, and of course KM Hayes for writing this book and having the patience for answering all our questions, I decided to repay them in the small way l could--with a review of "My Little Brony" that I was paid three fiddy to dohttps://mlpforums.com/blog/2538/entry-17092-a-review-of-my-little-brony-by-km-hayes/

    Especially you, Angry Cartoon Nerd!

    The feels, man... :(

Congrats, Angry Cartoon Nerd and estroc!

  8. I've never played any Fallout games but have always been interested in the franchise. Bethesda had a poor showcase in my opinion--especially with how Doom turned out :(--but Fallout 4 looked really cool. I've heard that it looks like 3 but with some add-ons, but never having played Fallout and with the additional features like having the ability to construct buildings seeming pretty fun, it looks awesome and worth a purchase.

  9. Well, I guess coming from a non-Brony standpoint it just came off as very obnoxious.

Over the course of several years the fandom created stories, art, and music surrounding characters who were largely unknown, discussing their lifestyles in intricate detail and with so much imagination, and now the show, out of its love for the rather large portion of its audience that engaged with it in this way, has given us a peek, or "slice", into their lives. I'm new so I don't have the same connection as someone else may have had. I find it difficult to love some background characters who for some fans are their favorite (though there are some I've grown to love even if only as an observer of the past work of bronies :derp:), but I appreciate everything certain fans of the show have done with these characters and I love the show for connecting with the base like this. That's what makes this episode pretty special and really awesome, but for someone who doesn't see it the same way or like me didn't participate or contribute over the years to developing these fun, fan-made personas, I understand the feeling. There's something to recognize here though.

Also let Envy call whatever he/she wants to be called. It doesn't hurt anyone if he/she doesn't want to be called a "brony".

  10. I think you need to listen to the speech again.  She says (paraphrasing) that it's not just the main characters who .....  and the contributions of all the background ponies/whatever are a huge part of what makes us who we are.

She directly addresses the role of community vs self in molding personalities and bringing about the realization of desiderata.

I listened to the speech again. I concede this point and thanks for making me listen to it again. :)

I just had an issue with her initial statement that "everypony is the star of their own story", which is something that needs to be a bit more nuanced. She clarifies that everyone plays a role, big and small, which would be a more realistic take fitting MLP's "individuals coming together" message, which I like a lot better than what I initially thought the speech was about.

I'll edit the above to reflect this, making the overall message a pro rather than a con, and it makes me like the episode even better. Thanks for that.  :)

  11. This was a really fun episode. I'm someone relatively new to the fandom so all these creative personas that bronies made were something I had to catch up on via mlpwikia or just by reading some older threads on this forum. I likely don't have as much of a connection to these background characters since the background character headcanons were forged out of the fandom's camaraderie and patience surrounding this show which I haven't faced to the same extent. I could tell that there's been so much fun discussing over these lesser known ponies and crafting crazy ideas about them. :D

But I still had a bunch of fun because seeing how this show, unlike so many others, really communicates with and cares about its fan base. It really makes me happy to see this sort of relationship in this show I love so dearly and which has a very special place in my heart. :)

Nonetheless, there were some very blatant problems--notably the plot. I can give some leeway, however, and understand its messy nature since this episode served more of a way to peer into the lives of the background ponies, who are just as interesting and vibrant lives as the major ponies we all love and saw develop over the course of now 100 episodes. The plot to me didn't matter as much as the characters did for this episode, which I felt was implied by the episode's title "Slice of Life", indicating that this was the purpose for the episode. So I can forgive them this time for a less developed, structure plot since life is rarely about structure and more about the feeling of things.

And this episode had a lot of great moments that warmed my heart. I especially loved Matilda's spiel about the marriage being more important than the wedding. It made me realize the importance of Matilda and Cranky's reunion which I didn't recognize as strongly as in "A Friend in Deed".

There were some very over-the-top, imaginative scenes that retrospectively weren't the best to add to the episode since it served to distract from the major plot, but it did paint these characters in a light where I could better gauge who they were and what they represented in the realm of almighty canon. I'm not disappointed in how it turned out.

Edited because of @@Foliha's constructive criticism below:

Though I didn't like Mayor Mare's initial statement in her speech in that we all are the "star of [our] own stor[ies]", since it's a message too many forms of media propound without the subtle nuances that it requires, later in her speech she does clarify that everypony has a role, big and small, to play, which makes me like this episode a lot more than I initially thought. It fits the individualistic theme in My Little Pony that celebrates our differences and reminds us that "each one of us has something special that makes us different--that makes us rare" but it has always also propagated a message of community and bringing together our differences to form mellifluous harmony between people--to form friendships.

The moral that everypony has their own story and that you contribute in some way to the stories of the people who matter most to you--whether in a minuscule way where you just provide muffins to console a guy you angered because of a shoddy job or you save Equestria on a daily basis--fits the show well and now listening to Mayor Mare's speech again I feel the episode does a good job of portraying this. It's a mature idea that we, adults and kids, need to deal with eventually in life. You just have a place in a "slice of their life" its portion depending on how important they are to you and how important you are to them. I guess it could do with a bit more realism in this episode if it were expounded upon but with the idealistic nature of MLP, the mayor's wedding speech fits well with the show's theme and I have no issues with it.

As a joke, I suppose a more meta moral for some of us more disappointed in the pandering nature of this episode is "to be careful what you wish for".
