  1. What I liked most about this premiere was the chemistry between Spike and Starlight. Dare I say this was one of the best written Spike characters to date! I'm still not sure what to think about Flurry Heart though. Her being born an Alicorn feels like to made Twilight's path to becoming an Alicorn herself a bit moot considering she had to earn it. Plus, her being born with all that power and not knowing what she can do falls into the "cliche" category for me since this kind of writing has been done before. While the rekindling of Starlight's and Sunburst's friendship felt very awkward at first, eventually it came out. At times I felt like shouting "Just spit it out aleady and get on with it!" The biggest surprise was not only seeing Twilight's parents make an appearance, but hearing them actually speak! Plus, it was nice to see Celestia get back into action again considering we didn't see much of her last season. All in all, not a bad premire at all! I'm mostly looking forward to seeing more development of Starlight's character.
  2. Oh, Josh, you genius you! To literally have the villain of all people save Equestria instead of Twilight and her friends doing so! That was very clever! Those different universes...damn....! One of the best writing bits in this episode was seeing what would happen if every villian the Mane 6 has faced had won instead. We get a violent war from Sombra, Pony-kind is overthrown by Chrysalis, Celestia is trapped in the moon by Nightmare Moon (no surprise), Tirek destroys everything, Discord causes chaos (obviously), and the Flim Flam Brothers tear down Sweet Apple Acres. Let's get to Starlight herself, not only was she very powerful, but she was also clever. Her plan was so perfect she had to realize the errors of her own way and stop everything herself. She's the first villain to technically "win". As for her reformation, that I'm not surprised about. What did surprise me is her supposedly joining the main cast. It felt shoehorned in, yet it is nice to see Twilight gain a student. I'm going to wait to reserve full judgement until see what happens in Season 6. A great finale to an amazing season! Now the long hiatus begins!
  3. And thus we have concluded Amy Keating Rogers' final episode and did she and Lena Hall deliver! First regarding Rara (for some reason, I love that name), it's obvious she's a parody of Lady Gaga. I was worried about her character at first, but as soon as it was revealed that she was a nice pony and not a snob, I instantly loved her character! Spin Gallop! Oh, Spin Gallop! My only complaint about this episode was the overbearing manager cliche since it's been done many times before. But on the other hand, to see how Applejack outsmarting him and Rara finally standing up to him was so sweet to see! That second to last song was simply amazing! I know we saw a preview of it at Comic Con, but to see it in its final form made it even better! It's one of my favorite songs of the season! This is one of the best Applejack episodes to date! Despite that she and Rara's friendship appeared to have been severed at first, I love that she didn't give up on it and made every effort to get her back! It shows how very dedicated she can be and I love that about her character! Thank you, Amy for your amazing writing on the show. I'm going to miss you and I wish you all the best of luck at Disney.
  4. A simple and enjoyable episode. It's great to see the Twilight and Fluttershy duo again. It's one of my favorites because of the way the way they interact with each other by try to rely on each other and come up with ideas vs Applejack/Rarity duo where there seems to be some kind of conflict between the two. I also like how we got to see Twilight filling more in as her role as the Princess of Friendship. The plot device though...it was ok. We've seen this kind of plot before, so I felt that held the episode back a bit. Fluttershy's interactions with the animals was adorable and seeing Twilight trying to come up with solutions in her usual bookworm style was amusing. So now that all the Ponies have had their calling with the map, I'm curious how they're going to build up the season finale. We also have AKR's final episode next week which I'm really looking forward to!
  5. Now that was a great episode! Discord has definitely made some more progress in his reformation even if it meant manipulating Twilight into learning her lesson. The whole lesson really hit home for me too having been down the road of deliberately excluding myself from social events because of my introvertness. By the way, I absolutely LOVED Spike's character in this episode! This is exactly how he should be, being Twilight's assistant and keeping her in check. I hope to see more this kind of thing. On another note, it's great to see obsessive Twilight make a return and Zecora making an appearance as well.
  6. Not a bad episode. My one complaint is that they spoiled the surprise right at the beginning and I really wish they had waited right until the end to reveal it. Granted, the writers were dropping hints here and there, but still it'd be nice for anyone who didn't want to be spoiled so quickly. Maybe it's just me, but I think this is the only episode where we weren't presented any moral at all (not count Applejack's "letter" in The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000). They sure keep turning the facial expressions up to 11 and Pinkie really let it all out this time which got some laughs out of me! It wouldn't surprise me by the way, if the foal was named Princess Skyla.
  7. As if this season couldn't be even more awesome, the writers came in and did this to us and on the 5th anniversary too no less! When this episode started, I thought it was going to be another CMC episode. They'd go on some mission, learn a lesson, and we'd be teased about them getting their cutie marks. But no, we got one of the biggest surprises the show has ever given us. Yes, there were hints dropped here and there, but I ever expected it to turn out like this! Also, this episode confirmed my theory that Diamond Tiara had a pretty bad home life as I've seen personally when it comes to bullies in real life and that Silver Spoon was just following the leader. I used to really dislike her and Silver Spoon for the way they treated the CMC, but after this episode, I felt really bad for you and am happy that both she and Silver Spoon finally redeemed themselves. I will say her Mother learning her lesson went by a little too quickly though. Oh and as for those songs and facial expression, they really turned it up to 11 in this episode! As for that monologue at the end, it was simply beautiful and the perfectly way to wrap things up! You know, I keep wondering how the writers can keep surprising us and how they can keep upping their game and this episode shows how amazing they can be. I seriously have to give them a big round applause and think that this was perfect timing for this kind of even to occur. Happy 5th anniveraary, MLP:FiM!
  8. This episode was both strange, hilarious, and absolutely adorable! First they give us not one, but two character bonding moments and on top of that development the relationship both of them! I especially loved the interaction between Scootaloo and Rainbow Dash! Now let's get to Big Mac pretending to be Woman. Not only was it strange and seemling out of character for him, it was absolutely hilarious! On a note of the sisterhooves social, it was nice to see it make a return albet some changes here and there. But let's get to the ending. Oh man, I have to admit seeing Big Mac open up about his feelings on wanting to spend more time with Applebloom and and having her look up to him as a hero not only gave me some feels, but it was one of most adorable and heartwarming moments in the show. I'm really happy to see him speak his mind instead of the usual "Eeyup" and "Nope".
  9. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't as great as Rainbow Rocks. The movie's biggest weakness were the villains and their motives. Not only were they weak and forgettable, but their motives were weak as well. On the other hand, the climax involving SciTwilght was unexpected. The animation has gotten better by leaps and bounds since the last movie and is at its best yet. One thing I want to say is that EG is definitely Sunset Shimmer focused instead of the other characters. I do like the lesson she gave to SciTwi and her additional character development. I was really really hope she'd go through the portal and back to Equestrian, but alas that did not happen. Curse you, writers teasing us. Personally I hope she makes an appearance in the regular series in the near future. With all this being said, it's hard to imagine where EG is going to go next. It felt like the ending completed an arc and everything has come full circle.
  10. While it wasn't as good as the last two Rarity-centered episodes, it wasn't bad either. I have to feel sorry for twilight though being left out and all. Applejack and Rarity still continue their strong interaction off one another. Applejack's various expressions were hilarious and that Peanuts reference gave me a good laugh. It was nice to see a callback to the Sisterhooves Social as well. It was nice to see Coco again still adorable as always. I do have to agree with those who've said that the problem got solved way too fast. It felt like they rushed things going towards the end of the episode.
  11. That was a fun episode! I loved how they started with a bit of continuity from the last episode right from the start. I will say, Rarity was just fantastic in this episodes and this is the most I enjoyed her character so far both from her internal monologue playing the detective and her interaction with Rainbow. Heck, I actually enjoyed this more than MMMMystery on the Friendship Express. I think it's obvious that anyone could see the ending coming from the mile away. It's not a huge hindrance to the episode though. One last thing, I also enjoyed Rainbow's character development in this episode. It's obvious she's basically a Wonderbolt now and just needs the official title. I'm hoping she'll get it soon.
  12. Not a bad episodes at all! Once again, we're shown how gradual yet great character development the characters in the show have been making and it's nice to see Rarity make further strides in her goal to open a boutique in Canterlot. Rarity's problem of having to fulfill the same request over and over instead of having creative freedom is a very relatable one. I know that I've been in that situation before as well as many other people I know, so it definitely hits home for me. One thing about the song's tone I really liked is the emotional change in them. It really makes them stand out more and gauge the mood of the character. There's only one flaw I have with this episode; Sassy went down too easily. I know that Rarity was technically the boss, but given Sassy's personality and namesake I expected her to not back down so easily. All in all, a nice start from the mini hiatus.
  13. What an episode! As if they weren't done with Slice of Life, they threw in even more craziness for the fans! We got manly Spike, Scootaloo flying, a meowing Derpy, a LyraBon tease, heck they even threw in Alicorn Big Mac with a Sailor Moon transformation reference thrown in there as well! Sure it may have been all a dream, but it was like the writers and animations saying "We're sorry for making you wait for the rest of Season 5, here's a little surprise for you!" Boy did they ever deliver with all the callbacks and references! It was great to see another Princess Luna centered episode! Even Nightmare Moon made another appearance despite it being a nightmare Luna was having. They really did not disappoint with this mid-season finale! Shame we'll have to wait a bit before the rest of the Season 5 continues, but hopefully it won't be a long wait!
  14. What a sweet episode! This is exactly how you write an episode about friendship! I absolutely loved the callbacks to the first episode! From Twilight's old home right down to the girls Twilight used to interact with before she moved to Ponyville. Heck they even showed entire flashbacks of various scenes of the first episode! What I really loved is how got a loose end tied up in regards to what happened to them when Twilight left. We even got a reveal of what the present Spike was going to give to Moondancer was going to be! Speaking of the girls themselves, I absolutely loved the character and the fact that they formed their own group similar to the Mane 6. Then there's Moondancer herself... Oh did I feel so bad for her. It was hard to see her absolutely crushed when Twilight didn't show up to her party and how she turned into what Twilight used to be; obsessed with studying and not caring about having any friends at all. One other thing about Twilight, I really love the portrayal of her role as The Princess of Friendship here by making an episode to patch things up and going out of her away to help someone who turned into how she used to be even bringing in the support of one of her friends to help show what friendship means. A quick side note by the way, I loved Pinkie's helicopter tail a la Miles "Tails" Prower". One last thing I want to mention is how much I loved Spike in this episode! This is exactly how I want to see him; a great support character hanging with Twilight! I have to tip my hat to M.A. Larson for a very sweet episode that tied up some loose ends and even threw in a few surprises too. This is definitely one of my favorite episodes of Season 5 so far!
  15. Much better than last week's episode! It's great to see more areas explored. First the Griffins and now the Yaks. I'm not sure on how to feel about the Yaks themselves. They kept getting mad and destroying things in spite of the others trying to make them feel welcomed a trait that bugged me greatly. It was great to see Cherry Jubilee again and Pinkie's journey towards Yakyakistan was fun to watch. I have to say that baby Yak looked adorable! Oh did this episode deliver on the crazy-nervous expressions! It wouldn't surprise me if one of them become a meme at some point. Lastly, Pinkie never ceases to amaze on the interesting life she lives. I certainly wasn't expressive that party basement with all the files she had on everyone.
  16. So yeah, this was a pretty predictable Spike episode. I know that we're coming off the episode 100 hype train here, but I really thought they could have done a better job here. Here's the thing about Spike, he's a great supporting character. He knows how to keep Twilight in check and whatnot, but I hate how when he's on his own, he turns into an idiot. We've been there before and it gets dull fast. I really wish the writers would give him some actual character development instead of treating him like an idiot. The only two good things to come out of this even inside was Cadence being a secondary star and Fancy Pants making a return. Other than that, there's not much else I can say about this episode.
  17. What. An. Episode! First off, I want to address the criticism that "this is too pandering to the fans" or "They should focus on the main characters, not the background ponies!" I can see where the argument is coming from, but I see this episode is doing two things: 1. Thanking the fans for helping the series make it this far 2. The show making fun of itself. This episode was basically writers having some fun and you know what? It was awesome! We got so many treats and surprises that made for a great episode! I can't decide which scene was funnier Sweetie Belle commenting on how a friendship problem will be solved in about 30 minutes for Vinyl and Octavia literally jumping a shark. Looking back, it's hard to believe that we've reached 100 episodes and we're still going and we have to thank both the fans and everyone involved in the show itself for making it happen. It's been quite a journey that I'm proud to have been part of and I look forward to seeing where things will go from here! P.S. Thanks, M.A. Larson!
  18. This is the episode we've all been looking forward to and I can't wait to see what M.A. Larson has in store for us! It's impressive to see MLP:FiM get this far and it wouldn't have been possible without the love and support of the fans.
  19. That was a great episode! Pinkie really stole the show here! It was great to be able to see whee the Griffins live and get some more world expansion in Equeatria. What surprised me the most was Gilda showing up and even more so that she was reformed by the end of the episode and personally I think they handled her redemption pretty well. By the way, young Gilda looked adorable! I will say one thing though, that skull really creeped me out! You know the show in general has matured greatly when it's able to show something like that! I have to say Season 5 has really been delivering so far! Now it's the waiting game for the 100th episode to air.
  20. That was a fun episode! So. Many. References! From Metal Gear Solid to Pinkie breaking the fourth wall the writers really hit a home run with this episode! It was great to see Discord again with his antics and yet at the same time still having that scary and chaotic side to him from his interaction with Spike to interrogating the Mailmare. It's easy to see how relatable his situation is considering Fluttershy has been his only true friend so far and his fear of losing her as a friend because someone else his come into her life. I'm glad to see more character development with him getting experience with having multiple friends. In regards the Gala, this one was...different compared to the last one. Less formal and upper classy and having a more casual feel to it. We finally get the first appearance of Celestia in season in 5 and speaking of her, she seems a lot more loose even laughing at Discords joke towards Twilight's wings. Personally I'm glad they're showing this side of her as it makes her more of a three dimensional character and not serious all the time. I'm really happy to see Maud again! Her deadpan insult towards Discord Was absolutely hilarious and is an example of why I love her character so much. I like Treehugger as well since I thought she was an interesting character. All in all, a really good Discord episode with some great humor and references.
  21. That was definitely one of the better episodes by Dave Polsky! The highlight of the episode was the CMC, especially Applebloom being the voice of reason in showing everyone that Troubleshoes wasn't bad. Furthermore, it was nice to see both Applelossa and Braeburn again, especially since he haven't seen either since the Season 1 days. I also like the Eeyore reference in regards to Troubleshoes as well. One of the funniest scenes of the episode is when Troubleshoes was in jail and kept breaking the mattress because he was so big. Also, it was nice to see Sweetie Belle use her magic again too. All in all, a pretty good episode. Now the 2 week wait for the next one begins
  22. I agree! They've really been upping the animation so far!
  23. Oh hi Braeburn! I haven't seen you since the Season 1 days!
