The difference between MLP and the older cartoons is that MLP's world actually enthralls people a lot more. Never once did I actually want to live on the earth portrayed in Invader Zim (One of my favorite shows), or live in the city of Townsville in Powerpuff Girls. But MLP has a cast of characters and a world that is so loveable, the fan base has turned it into a fantasy. I mean, seriously, look at this site. Roleplaying? As ponies? But that's why the show is so good. Sure, it's not the funniest. But such a harmless, loveable cast of characters and a neat world makes it easy to get lost in Equestria. That's what puts it a step above other cartoons for me. That and the amazing community that supports it.
