My Favourite Mane 6 Pony: Fluttershy How did you find MLP Forums?: I just searched "MLP Forums" online.
How you became a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic: Netflix.
My name's Alex and I'm a 27 year old guy from Salt Lake City, Utah. I'd like to talk about why I'm still a Brony and what being a Brony means to me.
I started watching MLP back in 2013 when a good friend started talking about the show. At first I teased him about it. "Ponies?" I'd say. "Really?" Then he'd say, "Yeah. Really." We were both in our 20's and I thought liking MLP was embarrassing and a little childish.
Then I was home alone with Netflix. I saw MLP on the list. "No one will know that I watched MLP," I thought, "I might watch one episode to see what this is about." Over time, it grew on me.
I'm still a Brony for a few reasons.
1. The show makes me laugh.
The writing is so cheesy sometimes but that's what I like about it (I.e. Nightmare Moon saying "You foals!" instead of "Fools!" in Ep. 1). Puns are awesome.
2. The community and show helps me be social.
I'm aware there are aspects of our community that are frowned upon by others: Pictures on the internet depicting our favorite characters doing base and awful things; the media who laughs at all the 20-somethings who enjoy a show about ponies; Brony cringe videos on YouTube. I even saw a petition on Change.org to cancel FIM.
But despite all the "nay" sayers, there's so much GOOD that comes from our community: I was able to reconnect to a High School friend, feel welcome at my first Comic Con, spend time with nieces and nephews, and laugh myself to tears while watching MLP with family and friends, all because of our community. I really appreciate the respect that you all show for each other. Even here in the forums, it's great to have a place online where I can have thoughts and not be attacked or bullied.
3. The show gets better over time.
4. Ponies are super cute. Seriously, the animation and collectibles are great.
To me, being a Brony means trying to be a good person. Saying hi to people, smiling, having respect. Being civil online. It reminds me of who I am and who I really want to be. The show and the community help me be a better person. That's ultimately why I'm still a Brony in 2017 and for the rest of my life.
