  1. I think theirs a few instances in the comics, but the only one I remember off the top of my head is "Friends Forever #21". In it, Twilight Sparkle got sick from a fungus-based food poisoning that affected almost all of Ponyville. She mostly rested in bed while Spike and Zecora teamed up to find a way to cure it. Scan. Not quite the same thing, but theirs a number of times where they got cursed or inflected with weird "magical diseases", like in "The Night of the Living Apples", "Ponies of Dark Water" and "Chaos Theory"/"Accord".
  2. Tacky, flashy buildings with lots of lights. Yosemite park.
  3. Just started on "Queen of the Black Coast". Trying to read a lot of pulp stories from the 30s-60s.
  4. Yesterday I finally made some serious progress on the story i've been working on for awhile. Redesigned the core characters and decided on basic plot of the first short story to write. Otherwise, just some boring website management stuff. Website management is a pain, let me tell you. The moment I think I fixed something, I broke like 10 other things.
  5. Plenty of reasons. When a series is all about adding more and more stuff, like Pokemon, or arguably even FiM, there comes a point when they start to run out of ideas and instead add something that completely contradicts the point of the series, or ruins it for other reasons. I love the first five generations of Pokemon, but just can't dig Gen 6 or 7. They added to much unnecessary fluff and mechanics that it just ruined the magic for me, not to mention the abysmal state of the meta game. For other series where their "outragiousness" is there driving factor, they keep trying to one-up themselves which eventually makes the jokes predictable. Whenever I watch modern Family Guy, I always roll my eye when I predict it's about to get stupidly gory or gross, and i'm usually right. On the inverse, it's why I think the Megaten and Digimon franchises have stayed mostly fresh even to this day. They constantly try new things without straying away to their core ideals that made the series stand out in the first place.
  6. Oddly enough, the wrestler Sting. Back to the Future.
  7. And even then Rainbow Dash's "moment" only served to screw over the main cast. I still think the movie is pretty decent, but it really was Twilight's story and Twilight's story alone. There are rumors of one or two more theatrical films being released, if they're true, then I hope they learn from their mistakes and make something that's more character driven. There was a discussion like this in the Adventure Time subreddit a year or so ago when discussing the status of the Adventure Time theatrical movie (which is probably canceled by now). Someone made good points that might be relevant here, since the movie was going to be a wide-release theatrical film, it would have to cater to audiences who've never even seen Adventure Time, so it's highly unlikely that the film would've dealt to much into the characters pasts, because random movie goers wouldn't know enough about the cast to really follow, or even care. It could've been similar here. Notes left in the official art-book imply the film was going to be more character driven that dived into the established lore of MLP but expanded on it. Instead we got a relatively safe, but decent enough adventure film that didn't really fit the lore of MLP to appeal to more audiences. But at least it expanded on it in interesting ways and introduced interesting characters like Tempest and Capper. Sorry for rambling!
  8. Weirdly enough, a considerable amount of the concept art for The Movie featured Spike and Applejack together. Most notably, Applejack was shown to comfort Spike after Twilight was kidnapped in a heartfelt way. Shame that they were scrapped. Personally, I think Dashie has good chemistry with everyone, given how much their personalities tend to clash. Dash and Pinkie Pie, Dash and Applejack, Dash and Spike and Dash and Rarity tend to be my favorite pairings. Rarity too, to a lesser extent.
  9. Call me cliche but I love A! As a con-langer by hobby, I love making words that start with A...although now that I think about it, most of my words start with A...>.> Q, Z, W and Y are cool too!
  10. Persona 5 had such a good soundtrack, but nothing could beat 4 for me.
  11. Man, I hope not. The way Season 8 was handled and constantly leaked made keeping up with release dates a nightmare, but it probably will anyway.
  12. My favorite snack is probably bread, especially French Bread. Bowls of cereal are also nice for quick snacks, but ever since my work desk collapsed, eating them has become complicated endeavors.
  13. There's a blink-and-you'll miss it scene in "Princess Spike" where Spike is trying to escape from a window when the mob catches up to him in Twilight's room, trying to runaway from his responsibility and pinning it all on Twilight. I'm not gonna say Princess Spike is a good episode, it's stale, predictable, unfunny and boring, but that one scene turns it from a boring, but generally in-character character piece on Spike's self-esteem issues to an unfunny comedy that disrespects his character development up until that point.
  14. When Equestria Girls first came out, I remember seeing a lot of fanfics with Dog!Spike Winona, but it was mostly just crackfics. I still see new ones on Fimfiction sometimes, but not as much. Dog Spike gets around, and I don't want to think about that anymore then I have to.
  15. Well, my niece (8 years old as of now) doesn't really watch much cartoons (she's already in the "cartoons are for babies" phase) and gets annoyed whenever I watch old cartoons like He-Man and The Real Ghostbusters. I don't really have much reference point than that.
  16. I watch a lot of 80s cartoons, IMO G1 MLP was better animated then say, He-Man and Filmation's Ghostbusters, but not as good as Superfriends or The Real Ghostbusters. Tales from what I've seen (a whole two episodes) is actually quite well animated for the time, with great backgrounds and a few standout moments. Even though G4 is technically better animated, the style is still really limiting in what they can do, which is why part of me prefers the way G1 was done. But yeah, G1 MLP had some creative storylines to say the least. I remember reading that writers for G1 media were limited in what they could do by Hasbro, so they had to think outside the box a lot. I really like the stories they tended to tell, they were pretty varied and unique from what i've seen, which is only a handful of stories so far.
  17. Arthur had an episode about that called "Bleep". I like how they have an entire conversation with swears, but of course it's censored out. For a recent example, Gravity Falls kind of did it. "Wait, I'm alone, I can swear for real! Son of a-" cut to a shot of Dipper and Mabel traumatized.
  18. The reason why and how Luna became Nightmare Moon is way more complicated than it should be, and has been retconned and altered at least 8 times. The latest explanation I'm aware of is from Legends of Magic which changes it to where Luna was corrupted by Stygian from another timeline in order to use her as a tool to reshape all of reality into his dark image after she accidentally opened up a portal to a world he destroyed, unleashing his darkness into Equestria. Apparently, Luna is known as "The Destroyer" in other world and was described as having "infinite power of destruction", which is why she was chosen to become Nightmare Moon. Celestia too, but I guess she was stronger willed? Older explanations have been: -The narrative the show explained, which is the "most" canon one, I guess. -That Nightmare is actually an alien being from another world/the moon who affected Luna, the king of Anugypt and...all the apples in Sweet Apple Acres once -"Ethical Cancer" (yes, that's seriously what they call it), which turns good ponies bad by exaggerating their good traits to absurdity. The same story says NM isn't "actually" a byproduct of that disease, but it's left as a possibility -Generic dark magic
  19. Opoona! Easily one of my favorite games on the Wii and virtually unheard of, though it's gotten a decent cult following lately. It's a really creative little JRPG where you play as the titular Opoona, an alien from a planet where everyone can control orbs that float around their body. What I love about the game is, despite it's trippy visuals and science-fantasy storyline, it's surprisingly grounded. For the first good chunk of the game, you're not on a quest to save the world, hunting a bad guy or even going on an adventure, you're just doing your job, going to school and making friends. With a wonderful soundtrack and great characters, it's a gem of a game. The Adventure of Hourai High School! It's like, the only high school themed RPG (a surprisingly common genre) that sticks to a High School aesthetic, for the most part at least. It's an amusing JRPG where you form a party of outcasts at a weird high school and fight bullies, prefects, mall Santas, elephants from hell ("Hellephants"), aliens, your homeroom teacher and gods of Hindu mythology. It's pretty easy and the balance of characters is terrible but it's still a fun playthrough. Snoopy Concert! It's just a really fun, relaxing and cute puzzle/point-and-click adventure game for the SNES. Nothing groundbreaking or deep, but a fun treat with great visuals.
  20. I always liked the idea that Spike would grow up to be a guy who would just help anyone in Ponyville with their problems if they asked and, given his longevity, would become like a record keeper of sorts who would write down every happening in the town for future generations. It's not as big or profound as a lot of ideas, but I like it, it's a nice, homely and humble destiny.
  21. I cannot stand it when you post something you think is funny or charming, and someone who doesn't find it funny goes on a really obnoxious, sarcastic rant about just how unfunny they think it is. Like, c'mon man, you're just bringing down the whole mood with your behavior right now.
  22. I wouldn't panic either. Hasbro likes making money and completely shutting off several demographics G4 attracted by making an inclusive setting, will just lose them money. Personally, I'm just gonna wait and see if I like G5 after it comes out rather than getting swept in any vague rumor that pops out.
  23. I would love to see Travis Touchdown too! I Even though gameplay wise I can't imagine him being a stand out character, his personality would more than make up for it. Personally, I want to see Agumon. He's not my favorite Digimon, that honor probably goes to AtlurKabuterimon, Gallantmon CM or Apocalpymon, but he's easily the most iconic. With all the gag manga and artwork he's been in, he could have a pretty comical moveset too. Like, his down smash could be him pulling meat out of the ground and smacking enemies with it (meat grows from the ground in Digimon). His final smash would be Warp Digivolution, turning into WarGreymon, who could have his own moveset, like: -Gaia Force -Slice and Dice -BRAVE TORNADO -PUNCH Outside of Digimon characters, I would love to see Dracula and Billy and Jimmy Lee from Castlevania and Double Dragon respectively.
