mega thread How are you feeling?
Raskolnikov replied to Rift enchanted's topic in General Discussion
Same as usual I guess. -
Which countries???? My family never celebrated any holiday so I never know when it is and I know different countries have different days for it lol But that IS funny... The Prophecy Unravels. @Acinonyx my dad is nowhere near funny enough for that kind of gallows humour, mwahah

Had a dream my mum fell on her back and supposedly died on the spot and my dad told me and I was very distraught till he told me she's not DEAD she's in the hospital. ???

I think being tired exhausts (ha) our ability to cope, so it might be whatever was getting to you was tolerable in the day because your coping capacity was still strong from the sleep while evening onwards those coping levels are depleting...? Just a guess but I know what you mean. I do know sleep is important for mental health as much as it is for physical.

Tired. Profoundly tired. -
I don't really care for the Derpy change in The Last Roundup one way or the other, there have been far worse things in shows - however I do find the change very reactionary and bigoted because it seems to imply there's something wrong with being handicapped that needs 'censoring' from the public eye, which is the opposite of progressive thinking as there is nothing wrong with having a disability... To my recollection nobody used the word Derpy in a derogatory manner and she was much beloved by then...? Censoring her actually GENERATES stigma against the disabled and doesn't help anyone. I don't think about it nor have any context behind who was responsible, but god what a strange thing to censor.

I wish I had any form of appetite in the mornings lol, it's always troubling when I wake up nauseously ravenous but my brain is going "NUUUUH not eating anything that sounds nauseating too"... do you want to collapse at work or not :| (I did eat some bread and a small chunk of cheese...)

Opeth and Darkthrone hohoho :3

I can't answer that question without at least 2 lawyers and 3 *trusted* psychologists. I haven't spoken to them in years and don't intend to. I can only describe very violent intent towards them these days.

general Anyone else who has never been to big MLP conventions?
Raskolnikov replied to Azure Acrylic's topic in General Discussion
Never been to a con myself either and not sure I'd want to attend but I do appreciate the fact that it is relatively easier for me to attend one, I do feel concerned when a lot of subcultures of all kinds are limited to the west... we tend to take that kind of thing for granted. -
Technically, but not nicotine generally and I'm not fond of these companies seemingly targetting kids with their advertising aesthetics. Seems to be becoming an increasing problem now and I don't trust what they're up to...

It's Friday and it's a pleasant day outside :] -
Haha darn Dawnshine I was expecting me to be the one to get told to keep it down but you beat me to it (I say this in jest of course!) I just discovered something really cool yesterday and I'm still giddy about it - apparently I've been living under a rock because there is a more modern incarnation of Egyptian - ancient Egyptian, not Arabic Egyptian =o I thought we'd have had no idea what ancient Egyptian sounded like but we literally have a language that directly descends from it called Coptic!! I knew about Coptic Christianity but I had noooo idea Coptic priests speak in a descendant of the ancient Egyptian language still, and not only that - they use an alteration of the Greek script and the alphabet looks like Byzantine Greek!!! They even have a lot of Greek loan words (presumably from the Hellenistic period)!!! I am so disappointed in myself for loving ancient history and not knowing this. This is so fucking cool?????

Technically taking a break from reading non-fiction ATM to cool off my mind from reading a lot of heavy stuff, but I've been reading The Society of The Spectacle by Guy Debord and The Impossible Revolution by Yassin al-Haj Saleh. The former has been enlightening as I have experienced some massive whiplash during volunteering and want to understand more about what we're dealing with in society ATM - somehow the text rings even truer today seeing as it was written before the advent of social media, feels horribly prophetic. Also interesting how it examines both free market societies and state 'socialist' ones. The latter I picked up after the downfall of Assad as I wanted to understand more about the Syrian civil war and the rebel factions involved, it's truly horrible the situation Syrians have found themselves in.

I'm not sure how I'm feeling. Probably a good thing lol -
'One night it happened, The morning never came It has been snowing ever since. The plague of cold harvests the land And only few still wait for the sun. Cities are buried under white curse Remains of the man lay on the glacial ground. The monuments of ice curve upon us Leading our way to the bitter end. One night it happened, The morning never came. The clocks tick anew this same hour of dark. And if we had only known That it would last forever, We would have forgiven ourselves And let the snow bury us together. One night it happened, The morning never came Now it's been seven years ever since. The season of dark fell upon us And only few still wait for the sun. Cities are buried under white curse Remains of the man lay on the glacial ground The monuments of ice curve upon us, Leading our way to the bitter end. One night it happened, The morning never came The clocks tick anew this same hour of dark. And if we had only known That it would last forever, We would have forgiven ourselves And let the snow bury us together.'

I don't know about *favourite* - I do have to say that there is something uniquely pleasing about playing the violin I don't get from other instruments :] (I'm sure cellists and violists etc feel that too?) sometimes when applying the rosin you can see some of it flying off if I'm sitting in the sunlight and it's the most mesmerising thing ever, am I in the His Dark Materials intro? And feeling the smoothness the bow on the strings is a feeling you can't get from a pick in my experience! It can be quite the patient grind to learn the violin but it really does feel like it pays off those moments where it just feels good and you fought hard to get to that point :] That said I do enjoy playing the guitar too as it has a different vibe and most things I listen to are electric guitar based so obviously the guitar is up there in my favourites, I'm actually not sure which instrument I'd pick as #1... they all have their place and picking a top one is too restricting to me. (I need to kick my own ass some more and get more comfortable with the guitar too... my violin is my main focus I take seriously so my poor baritone gets forgotten sometimes. I gotta learn how to do rhythm parts hmmm)

Do you pay attention to song lyrics?
Raskolnikov replied to TigerGeekGuy's topic in Media Discussion
I used to always pay attention to song lyrics and it would be the first reason a song would catch my interest, because I was sick of pop music having the most shallow themes imaginable - but recently I've turned around completely and refuse to pay attention to the lyrics first, only looking them up if I particularly like a song. My reasoning is this: there are songs for any lyrical subject out there if you go out there looking, so what should matter is that you like the actual music! I've found some stuff I listened to doesn't hold up anymore because I have found music that covers those themes AND has music I really really click with, so it became clear I didn't actually like the music as much as I thought (and I read poetry these days for that so I don't need to listen to things I don't vibe with anymore). It's helped me figure out what I like musically much more. Of course, if the vocals have some real trashy shit that is also hard to ignore in the music then it does become a problem :x so many bands just need to stick to instrumental only oh my god... all the above said I still think lyricism is important and can really help a track a LOT, it just shouldn't be the only thing carrying a song ;] -
Yes, though the residue left over by some pork months ago that still dares linger in spots I haven't caught yet is making me rethink my consumption every day lol I would like to cut down on meat and dairy and just keep it to more ethical purchases when I do buy them (not only do I hate industrial farming but the supermarket meat tastes like ass to boot so what even is the point) but I gotta learn more vegetarian recipes too, my only issue is figuring out vegetarian/vegan dishes that are filling and make big portions as I didn't get dietary needs met very well growing up and like the energy from having well balanced meals.

Assholes, mostly, LOL There's a derogatory term for someone who is from the capital of the country in my language if it's any indication... That's ok, we haven't managed to civilise the rest yet but they will learn in time and their tongues won't be so quick to talk crap :p

The Morning Never Came by Swallow The Sun. Dunno why the opening keys of the first track give me an existential crisis. They have a strange painful nostalgia attached to them.
