  1. Sakura-con, I heard of that one before... I might have to look it up.

It's one of the largest Anime conventions in the Northwest (ranging about 18,000+ attendees every year) but the convention itself is lots of fun. I also went to my first MLP Panels there this year and got lots of Pony related material, including meeting this artist http://katie-w.deviantart.com/ and commissioning a sketch of the Mane 6 for me! Everfree Northwest was also there advertising. I recommend going to Sakura-con if you're in the area.

Also I tried going to PAX but tickets sold out fast, it's also a much more larger convention then Sakura-con. I've never been there but from what I heard, it's really busy.

  2. I've gone to mini-conventions before when with my parents when I was younger, but when I got older I decided to go do my own thing. So every year I go to an anime convention called Sakura-con and its a huge anime convention in Seattle. It's once a year.

I've attempted to go to other anime conventions and Everfree Northwest, but I'm so busy around those times that I can't make it, but I hope next year I can do more conventions.

Oh, and I've been to an Aboriginal Career Fair.

  3. The two of us organized it ourselves. There was no group involved.

Since I'm leaving for Europe on Wednesday, if another meetup happens, it'll have to happen quick. Blue and Senn555, I think it would be really cool if I could meet up with you both before then. I'm curious if anyone else would also be able to make it.

Oh ok, just checking (There's quite a large BC Bronies base in Vancouver if you didn't know (you probably do).

Well, ironically I'm leaving to Osoyoos on Wednesday for a few days so it wouldn't work out for me. Maybe in the future though.

  4. I could probably do this meetup if it happens to take place before August 4th. I doubt it's going to happen that quickly, however. :P

I'm in downtown Vancouver right now (on vacation from Saskatoon), and I have the honor of being the first MLPForums member to meet up with Feld0. Our meetup happened just this Tuesday! *runs away before the crowd with the flaming torches gathers*

Was it a meetup organized by the BC Bronies group or just some other group? :P That is awesome though!

  5. Not really, or at least, not yet.

I'm almost a year into this fandom and I don't feel different. But, this did inspire me to go to my first MLP-Panels at a convention I went to, it was really fun.

The morals and points made in the show would have helped changed people, but not me. For some reason I feel like I follow most of those morals and maybe that's why I don't feel so different about myself.

It's empowered me to only love and tolerate much more! :P

  6. I thought about not quoting anyone on this...don't know why I picked you so I do hope you know that wasn't picking on you or anyone. But yes I agree the community are furries as a whole

sorry if I came across bad

Oh I never felt offended or anything. I was just saying that their a lot of groups of furries in the fandom. :)

  7. Well I see furries as one of four categories

    1. The spiritual furries...the one who feel one with their animal. Sometimes furries think that animal is part of them or vice cersa. This is where I fit in

    2. The furry fans. They love the art or the lifestyle and generally enjoy the fandom

    3. The furries who dig the porn. There definately are these folks around. they like anthro or total furre porn. I don't really have any ill-will towards them. They like what they like

    4. Then there are the fakers...you ever seen those pictures where there is some cute girl with an xbox controller and she claims to be a 'gamer girl'? Yeah this is what I feel about the fakers in the furrie community. They give us a bad name. They are like "ZOMG I want to be a tiger!"

What I hate is when people think all furries are type 3. The problem is I can't blame those people...because some of the type 3 are the loudest and most boisterous. It would be nice if people could see what furries really can be

    Ah well...such is life

I usually just say Furry and that's that. Unless I feel like making more categories, I then start to differentiate each furry and their artistic tastes and likes.

Which can take quite a longgggggg time.

  8. The whole concept of furri-ism gives me a bad feeling/vibe that I can't really explain.

I thought someone on this thread has already gone through with the whole fallacious idea of " furrism " unless your referring to something else you use as and use a substitute word in place of it.

  9. Why are you a furry? There has to be a reason! *slams desk with fist* *spills dr pepper*

Well, I couldn't say I was a mainstream furry but I was part of a group of furries known as " Poke'fur's " (Yes, there are such people) which, you probably know, are furries that see themselves as, well, Pokemon. Years ago when I was younger it was what I was and there was quite a large community of them.

But I've been kinda unmotivated lately and my participation in roleplays and stuff went down as years past, so now I just like the art and the furries, that's pretty much it really. I'm still evolving I guess. (no pun intended)

  10. Well they still bother me. I've met so many of them in my lifetime and the're all weird people. The fandom has gotten such a large pile of hate thrown at it that normal people looking to join are turned away from it in fear of it damaging their personal image.

Well, trust me on this one, MANY furries I know could careless of MLP and the fandom. It's just their tastes and that's completely fine. But I encourage you to see things from a different perspective. For example, look at me, I'm a furry a little bit and I don't compare the two. I'm sure many others here could agree. You just need to distinguish groups and pinpoint which ones do and which ones don't.

  11. I've seen it happen many times. For example, one time there were both bronies and "furries" on the same chat site, and the furries were getting hated on by some random haters. The "furries" responded by acting like bronies were very similar to them, so they wouldn't be so isolated. As a result of scenarios like this one, many ignorant people tend to mistakenly categorize bronies and "furries" together.

Then you were unfortunate to fall into the wrong crowd of people. As an active member of the biggest Furry communtiy forums FurAffinity I have yet to see a single journal post made by well known artist or just an ordniary member comparing Bronies to Furries. In fact, the only people I hear that compares them are the haters (especially some people on TF2 I have come across in games). And the admins and operators of the site made their point that Bronies and Furries have no connection what so ever, just two different fandoms.

  12. 6-7 months is the duration.

If I recall correctly, you live in Chilliwack, right? I'm a Maple Ridger myself.

Wow, that's quite a long time, but that's really neat to study in a country like that for that long.

I guess it's not that bad then, I don't know then. it depends on where at and who's going (My parents are a bit overprotected about all this stuff).

  13. Furries Does not equal sexual desires.

Furries I think are just people who like Humanoid animal I think its called. Nothing to do with anything sexual at all.

Furries are, in short, people who see themselves as Anthromorphic Animals (or equivalents to other animal like bodies), they see themselves with the same attributes as an animal in the wild. That is why most have their own fursona (much like we have a ponysona) to represent their self in an animal like way.

There are many different type of furries though.

  14. Really? I have a lot of duplicates for those, I would love to get them off my back, since they are just here... in the binder... collecting dust.

Again, it depends on your market.

I would suggest ebay, you could maybe sell your cards as lots and people may buy them. But your best bet is to find card shops that have a strong Pokemon player/collectors base or you know someone that would really like them.

  15. I don't know if there is a per-existing topic like this, but if so then please close or merge it, however the mods feel.

Anyways, who else here has registered for Everfree and is going? Seeing that it's pretty much almost here and they are doing a last minute registration for anypony that wants to go, but it seems to be selling really fast and it would be a miracle for anyone to get a ticket now.

I would go, since I live only 2-3 hours away from Seattle [and I have family there to stay with] but we got plans on that weekend. The feeling hurts. Always next year though!

But when I went to Sakura-con I got to meet some of the Everfree staff that were advertising the convention back in April and I got some Everfree swag because it's pony and cheap. I missed my opportunity to pre-reg then too. But again, plans.

  16. Not too sure about the movie/show promotional cards that are not part of the Trading Card Game, but you could probably look up on the ones that are. Look for the pack they came from, the quantity of the card, the condition and some history. Some of these cards could range from .50 cents and up depending on what I said. But you also need to find a market for Pokemon cards as well. Or else, no one will buy them

  17. My favorite video game of all time would have to be Bioshock. The applied Ayn Rand philosophy gone wrong and how the city's designs are based off of the 20's Art Deco and Streamline design is what got me to fall in love with the game. But also the plot twists and the underwater environment is really neat.
