  1. They're trollin', but at least they're not hatin'. Hasbro has given us lots of subtle nods in some of the merchandise, so I guess they figured it was time to troll us in such a way that only we would pick up on it.

  2. The big 3 want their systems to be the best out of this generation, so they try to perfect a great console that can withstand at least 6 years (since that's the average generation gap) for the public to be interested in.

Sony and Microsoft are actually smart though. They aren't quickly releasing info on their next projects yet because they know that the PS3 and 360 are still going massively strong amongst their audiences, and the audience themselves probably don't want to switch to an entirely new system just yet. Give or take 2 more years, then the next phase really begins.

Some four or five months ago I saw a thread about the 720 allegedly being six times more powerful than the 360, but upon reviewing the specifications sheet (which may have been revised since then, I don't know) I found that the 720 would still be only half as powerful as my computer was when I rebuilt it last year. The next generation of consoles sure is taking its time getting here, and the biggest problem with that is the fact that the "next generation" of visuals has been here for a long time, and by the time the new consoles arrive they'll still be languishing several generations behind of what I've had for a while now. It's inevitable that consoles will be very archaic within a year of their release, at most, regardless of how much foresight is put into their design, but the spec sheets show them using hardware that's already several generations old. Six years might be a stretch if they don't make some updates to their planned hardware. It would appear they aren't trying to make a modern system, just something better than what we have now. I don't know, but it really seems like Microsoft and Sony aren't doing much besides churning out gimmicks these days. As a PC guy, I'm currently fighting the impending release of Windows 8, which may not be the worst gimmick Microsoft has ever made but it'll be the one with the most widespread and bad repercussions.

Maybe word has spread since E3, but many people at the time didn't seem to realize that most of the jaw-droppingly gorgeous games they saw coming out for the PS3, 360, and possibly PC were in fact running on development PCs, not the consoles, so what they saw is not what they will get. That may kill some enthusiasm for the current gen and increase people's desire for the next's arrival.

so I won't really be surprised if they just started releasing system update discs or whatever that internally boosts up a system's capabilities for better graphics and more storage.

Software and firmware updates are already pushed out online, which does help a little bit with those things. The problem is mostly with hardware limitations, which can't be changed. What you bought is pretty much what you're stuck with, aside from being able to upgrade a hard drive. That is, unless Sony and Microsoft decide to get even more proprietary with their form factors and make it impossible to put a standard hard drive in their consoles like you can now.

Because a lot of gamers are loyal to the gaming companies they grew up with.

That's understandable, but they have to draw the line somewhere. One can use a company's past achievements to get an idea of what to expect from them, and one may start looking for them to lead the way as a new generation dawns, but each new thing they put out should be carefully scrutinized or else you're sure to get burned for your complacency.

And not a lot of console gamers want to waste time and money building a pc to play games or even waste $800 buying a computer "specifically made for gaming."

True. But I'd just like to put it out there that I've built one for around $400, and I suppose the best thing about a computer designed specifically with gaming in mind is that it'll also do anything else you throw at it better than a cookie-cutter machine. And it's not really a "waste," it just depends on where your personal priorities are.

  3. If I had any artistic ability, my OC would be "Dark Brew." It's something I've actually thought about for a long time. Glad to see somebody out there essentially had the same idea and brought him to life in some form. We even have the same preferences when it comes to our coffee: dark and bitter. Maybe I'll start practicing until I can draw what I originally had in mind. You may have inspired me.

    I love you.

  4. What holds me back the most is seeing a reply resembling my line of thought. If somebody has more or less said what I was thinking, I don't bother posting unless I feel that I have something important to append. Note that I just made an exception this rule because JayBee said the same thing on the second page. I'll also not post if I don't feel that my contribution would be valuable in any way, whether or not somebody else has already stated my thoughts.

The majority of my posts are in the Lounge or General Discussion areas. I'm not an artist, and roleplaying isn't my thing.

50/50 lurker and general discussion guy.

edit: Oh, I'm a butterfly now. Check my dubs while they last.

  5. EHRMAGEHRD, how could I have forgotten Joan Jett and George Thorogood?! Seriously, some of my earliest childhood memories are riding in the car with my dad with The Blackhearts and The Destroyers playing on the radio, or from a cassette that he pulled from a massive case that resembled a piece of luggage he kept in the back seat.

Aight, I just scrawled out a top 5 list.

    • Queen

    • ELO

    • Joan Jett (solo and otherwise)

    • George Thorogood (solo and otherwise)

    • Deep Purple (they got their start in the 60s, disbanded, and reformed in the 80s, so they still qualify)
Besides Queen, it's in no particular order. I would put Bob Segar there but it just feels like he doesn't belong on a Rock list. He's a Blues Rock guy. That sub-genre deserves its own extensive list.

  6. My ideal sick day would be stretching out on the couch or staying in bed while sipping coffee and watching something like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Wizard of Oz would work too. Those just feel like sick day movies.

The reality of my sick days is I spend them hunched over in my computer chair playing shooters and other things that are far from relaxing.

  7. Queen is without a doubt my favorite. Freddie Mercury had a voice like no other. ELO comes in second, though they had a volatile history with members coming and going, and disbanded before the decade was out.

I had a great time at the fair/meetup yesterday, so I rocked out to Queen all the way home with this, quite appropriately, being the first track I put on:

  8. Great idea, except...

Ehhhhhhh.... backseat moderating rubs me the wrong way. It sounds weird and doesn't quite fit. What about something like "memberating," where regular members are trying to act as moderators. Or just something else that conveys the same meaning besides "backseat moderating." It just... I don't know. What's the deal with that?

  9. What if there is no generation 5? The current iteration of the show and toy lines has been the most profitable one by a long shot. Hasbro has gone out of their way to bring adult men My Little Pony toys and programming catered specifically to them, and have turned a blind eye to some of our fandom's activities that could be infringing on trademarks and patents. They recognize how unusual we are, have probably learned something new about the nature of marketing, and have made tons of money from us. They must also realize that any future generations will be failures by comparison and that they need to keep this one alive for as long as possible, at least from a profitability perspective. When this one runs its course, however long that may take, they could very well decide to leave the franchise alone rather than taking such a significant risk as restructuring it into something else, whether that's a return to the old styles or an entirely new direction, or trying to recapture what this generation was. Things like that have been done before with other franchises and often with terrible results. The Hasbro guys seem smart enough to know that a fifth generation could be, shall we say... beating a dead horse.

  10. I'm an only child. My extended family doesn't know about my bronyhood yet, at least not to my knowledge. If I can find a reasonable opportunity I'll try to segue into the topic of MLP and bronies the next time I get together with my aunt, uncle, and some of my cousins and their significant others, I'll bring it up. I predict most won't care except for one cousin of mine, who will take a cynical stance rather than a hostile one.

  11. A bag of holding. I always find myself running out of room in my pockets, or filling them with so much stuff that I can't comfortably sit down. How much space I have in my car would no longer be a concern when shopping either. I could stuff everything in my bag.

  12. I took the name Artemis from one of my favorite (possibly second on the list) fictional characters of all time: Artemis Entreri. My real name, Eric, is a bit boring.

My name is Conner, which is a ridiculously common name. Seriously, I know like 12 people with that name. Though there are lots of different spellings. Connor, Conor, etc. Annoyingly enough, everybody seems to spell it wrong unless I specifically inform them of how to spell it upon meeting them :/

Connor is the most common spelling. I've honestly never seen it spelled as it is for you. And I can never hear the name without thinking of Connor MacLeod or John Connor.

  13. My height is about 6'1, I am 19 (almost 20) a fairly tall guy, but my friend is like, 6'4 or 6'5, so compared to that, I'm short xP

    But I like being tall!

An old friend of mine has a sister that was 6 feet tall at the age of 14. That was five years ago and I haven't seen her since. I feel bad for her though. Her brother always called her sasquatch.

  14. I have a 2006 Chevy Impala. It's been an excellent car aside from a radiator leak. To be honest, I love old jalopies, and wouldn't mind driving a rusted 1984 Buick Regal or something like that instead.

I'm too young to have my own car. I don't even have my driver's license yet. :(

You're fortunate in one regard. Getting your license is great, as it allows you to go places without having to wait for somebody else to take you. One the other hand, I guarantee that you'll eventually want somebody to take you everywhere so you can just chill, but if you ask your parents or almost anybody else to carry you somewhere, they'll just tell you to do it yourself. The novelty wears off after a while.

  15. The three races appear to have completely eradicated their bigotry from the days of old. I don't think we would see any kind of racial division or nationalism. About the only thing that would change is the unicorns would have to resume their ancient duty of maintaining the cycle of night and day.

The next in line to rule would be Cadence. Who knows what she's capable of? Probably nothing practical.

  16. I always play as Soviet. Probably because I own a Mosin Nagant and used to own a Makarov until I sold it to my neighbor, a decision I've come to regret. Is there a particular server you guys haunt?

My favorite thing about this game is how they made it impossible to spawn camp. They knew this was a problem in every other multiplayer shooter and took steps to prevent it.

If I was to give one piece of advice to new players it would be to spend some time floating around in Spectator mode. Learn the sounds of Nazi and Soviet weaponry so you'll know when you're about to be surrounded by the enemy and to minimize friendly fire.

I think I died somewhere around eleventy zillion times last night. Not a bad game, I can appreciate the stark departure from CoD style arcade nonsense that it offers.

The first day I played this I was about 50/50 on my kill:death ratio. By the following morning (because I played through the night) I was able to run a ways, dive down or jump behind a wall, pop out and peg somebody in the head with iron sights at almost 300 meters, and move on. This continued for a couple days. I was tearing it up.

Well, I guess they got better too, because one day I started playing and was netting about 4 kills per match and getting capped about 20 times. This game can be very hard, like many other shooters, but it's fair. From what I've seen, most other player's understand the significance of class-based teams and use the classes as they were intended, and to great effect.

  17. Motivational speeches before big fights in movies and games. You know what I'm talking about; we've all seen them before:

There's going to be a big rumble and there's a good chance most or all involved will die, so the commander stands in front of everybody and tells them how they'll fight to the last man, they'll die free; they'll "let them know what we're made of" or some other trite statement usually concludes the speech. All the while there's an orchestral piece playing in the background. I hate those speeches. I wouldn't sign on for suicidal situations without an understanding of the risk and a willingness to die for it beforehand. Cut the BS and let's get things over with. Every time somebody starts one of these speeches anymore I can't help but double-facepalm in embarrassment and frustration.
