I'm a big man, and I want a BIG cereal!

>go to work
>sit down at my desk
>find out that the central printer for the second floor is out of commision
>start working on it
>get bellowed at by some random user because it isn't usable
>don't care for her rudeness and yelling; tell her to get lost so i can do my job
>finished fixing the printer
>got fired
Best work day ever and it wasn't even real.

If you come to visit you'll be bored to tears. We haven't even paid the phone bill in 300 years.

Looking at the picture somehow makes me feel like I'm staring into hell. I'm going to go look at something nice.

Employers do it too. Businesses monitoring their employees like that is understandable, because it would be detrimental to abusiness to keep people around who might be disparaging the company. The most recent example that comes to mind is a waitress raging on her Facebook wall about spitting in customers' food or something like that. She definitely had to go. Now if an employee likes to get hammered on the weekends or even every night, but arrives sober an punctually every day and still able to fulfill what's required of him, then maybe they should leave him be. But I would still find it understandable if he got canned because if somebody who knows where he works sees him carrying on like that, they may get a bad impression of the company as a whole.
Now when it comes to any pre-tertiary educational institution, that is, any public school one would compulsorily attend until a certain age:
Your principal may have a point about people your age needing a parent's permission to do certain things, but seeing as he isn't your father, stating his opinion is about all he can do. It is not the place of ANY government institution to determine what a child does outside of school. If you want to put something on Facebook or any other website, the government (because that's actually what this is) has no say in the matter; what you're doing is entirely between you and your parents. Anything you do, no matter how crude or vulgar, would not reflect poorly on the school because it isn't the duty of the school to give you a moral compass, so the only people besides yourselves that would look like filth are your parents, because it is their responsibility. Not saying that you did anything wrong, just saying why the school can't do anything about it. The most the school can do is revise their policy on the use of phones so that nobody can use them on campus, and restrict what you're permitted to do online from within their own network. But they can't tell you what you can post to your own profile from anywhere else. The only reasonable exception being posting pictures of people who work there, because you would then be intruding on their lives. When I worked for a middle school some four years back I was constantly having to remind the staff of this. They kind of hated me for that and because I recognize public schrewl for the sham that it is, so then I quit.
I don't have a Facebook profile myself, but from what I understand there are privacy measures in place that can keep your school from prying. You might want to enable whatever options are available to you.

Turned 24 on Monday. In everything I've ever been part of, I've always been the youngest involved. Feels kind of weird that there are people here over ten years younger than me. When I say it feels weird, I just mean because of the role reversal. Despite being 7-8 years older than most others I've interacted with on this forum, there hasn't been any kind of discomfort or awkwardness. Everybody here seems pretty well-adjusted to me.
It's not so bad, really, being older. The quarter century mark is only one year away, but I'm feeling good about it.
my dad is on these forms (though hes currently taking a small break from them) ans hes in his 40's, i think that counts as old lol
You gonna get it, boy!

I ordered a Zecora figure some time ago, which came in the mail two weeks ago. Last Wednesday I ran to Toys R' Us to see if I could get a few more Zecoras before the price went up to $15. The price had officially changed but they had not yet replaced the sticker, so I left with three more Zecoras for the price of four.

Firstly, let me cite an example of what I'm talking about:
The method employed by most games these days to establish the player's place in the world, even in the RPG genre, is to give them an occupation (mercenary, soldier, scientist, etc.) and to have the game begin at a moment of tragedy that throws his life into disarray. Sometimes his circumstances are established during an easy tutorial level that's meant to introduce you, the player, to the controls, only to fast-forward a few years later to the time of resolution. A lot of games simply use a cutscene. I'm not knocking these devices. They, like any other method, either fresh or cliche, can be executed brilliantly or feel like the developers weren't even trying.
But then there's the narrative. It's not interactive, it's not even visual, and for those reasons I find it much more compelling a vehicle for conveying emotions and backstory than any of the above. You know how people often say that a book is better than its movie adaptation? That was the comment I heard most frequently when discussing the Harry Potter movies with diehard fans, or even casual fans who happened to have read the books too. They had one thing in their minds when they read a book -- though there were vivid descriptions of people, places, and objects, it was up to the reader to construct everything for themselves within their own minds -- and were presented with something of somebody else's imagination. Though not bad, it wasn't ideal for any other viewers. When watching a cutscene or playing through a character's backstory, you can't help but critique every detail. By giving an elegant description of events and scenery, the player is permitted to create much of the specifics of a character's history, situation, or surroundings for himself in a manner that he finds most enjoyable and believable. And it often takes less time for the narrator to explain everything than it would to watch a cutscene or play through an interactive segment, yet somehow more is conveyed than if everything was given to you visually.
Baldur's Gate isn't the only game that's ever done this, but it's the first that comes to my mind because in my opinion it's never been done better than it was here.
So how do you all feel about this? Is narration too tedious for you? Would you rather have everything rendered so you don't have to set things up yourself? Is this something you would like to see done more often, less often, or not at all? Tell me what you think.

No, but there have been many occasions where I've reflected on my childhood and wondered how it was that I did like something.
And then I can't help but wonder if there's anything other than nostalgic value that keeps me liking it to this day.

As much as I value the show and this community, I'm not on a crusade. Somebody gives me a hard time, I explain as briefly as possible that what we're watching is a reboot that bears no resemblance to the original show, and that they should check it out because it defies expectations.
The only thing I concern myself with is being concise and tactful. If they still want to be a jerk about it, I go about my business. Done.

I'm still estimating the season premier will be sometime in the second week of October or near the end of it. I doubt we'll see it this month.-

Man, I feel bad for the dude. He was a very entertaining commentator, one of my favorites (Besides J.R.)
Same here. What happened to J.R.? Did Michael Cole take his place full time, or was he just filling in for a little bit? Cole is good at doing shoots, but doesn't quite have a commentator's charisma to me.

I heard from an unreliable source that he was "clinically dead" (whatever that means) for 20 seconds, and that he had a heart attack, not a stroke as some others have speculated. Don't know if that's accurate or not, but the important thing is that he's alive right now and making some amount of recovery.
I stopped watching wrestling sometime around February of 2007, so I have no idea what kind of health anybody is in these days.

In a day where many people say "there are no absolutes," (except for the absolute that there are no absolutes) I can appreciate a man of conviction, whether or not I share all of his beliefs. I hope everything goes smoothly for you. A few good friends of mine are Mormons (just got off the phone with them), so I know exactly what you're going through. One of their sons just finished his mission last year. Thanks for the heads up. Though we haven't spoken at length I feel that I know you pretty well, or at least understand what kind of a person you are. I'll miss you, but I'll keep you in my prayers and think of you every time I come around these parts, and I'll be waiting for you when you're able to return; please do come by just to let us know how you are, even if for whatever reason you determine that you don't want to stay. If you forget your login credentials or something, make a new account, pester the Feldster, or whatever you have to do, but make sure you drop in.
As for the show and fanbase: I don't think we're disbanding anytime soon, and the episodes will be easily obtainable, this being the internet and all. You won't miss anything. And who knows how many seasons the show will last?
Oh, and since you aren't leaving for nearly two months yet, don't be surprised if I end up shadowing you around the forum until then so as to enjoy what time remains.

When I think back to the hours I spent in front of the TV as a kid, the first two shows that come to mind are Highlander and Star Trek. And when I say Star Trek I mean both TOS and TNG. If we're just talking about cartoons, then the first one's I think of are Thundercats and He-Man. Strangely (I think it's strange, at least), I can vividly recall Sailor Moon during its original run, before it hit Toonami. Of course, I remember watching it there too. That's not the kind of anime you would expect most guys to watch, especially one who is into more "manly" things like Thundercats and Highlander, but somehow it walked a very fine line of being overtly girlish but managing to appeal to some male sensibilities. These are all things I started watching from my earliest memories of life.
My favorite shows from a few years later, sometime around the age of 7 and up, were Animaniacs, The Tick, and Freakazoid. Being the only nerdy kid in town and being an only child, I watched a lot of movies and TV, so I understood most of the jokes and pop-culture references they made whereas it seemed most other kids my age thought the show was stupid because they couldn't figure out what was being parodied. Come to think of it, they probably didn't even know what a parody was.

Great move, and one I think they should have made long ago. Personally, I'll stick with Play N' Trade if I'm going to buy old stuff from a retailer since they let you try things before you buy them. Feels pretty bad dropping a bunch of money on some old gems only to get them home and find that they don't work.

Eggs. I don't like them here nor there, I do not like them anywhere. It doesn't matter how you cook them either. Eggs are revolting.
I'm with OP on hating 4chan, but occasionally a gem emerges from there.
I think I am going to die for posting this, but I hate GFangnam Style. I hate DEybstep and north Koreans, so Gangnam style is my worse nightmare.
Gangnam Style is from South Korea. North Korea doesn't have anything. Just sayin'.

"My skin may not have scales, but it has seen many suns come and go. Boo thinks you could use some sun too, then you might not smell so much like wet laundry."
Or:
"Hi, I'm Well-Adjusted Al, and my prices are sensible. I used to be called Crazy Al, but therapy has convinced me that selling plate armour for 3 gold pieces and a small duck was no way to get ahead in business."

Pretty good, actually. No matter what kind of system you implement there will be those who take exception to it, but I think you have a solid plan. What it all really comes down to is having some manners and following any instructions blatantly posted before you. No problem. Thanks for all the time and effort you guys put in to this and everything else that keeps this place in business.
One question regarding the advertisement section: I occasionally find myself plugging a particular medical research project that has a brony team. It's already mentioned in my profile. Being a non-profit entity, I make no money for turning people on to it, and the organization makes no money from any of the participants. How do you feel about organizations, projects, etc. of that nature getting mentioned around the site? I'm not talking about conspicuously working it into posts of questionable relevance or the outright derailing of threads. Just as an aside when an opportunity legitimately presents itself, such as a member lamenting a cancer prognosis or a political discussion regarding the dispensation of healthcare. Of course, I'm just using my medical thing as an example, but insert whatever charity/community effort may be relevant to you or another member.

typical mod reply: ur faec heuheuheuhuehue
I was thinking of an old friend of mine when posting that. He has a younger sister who's terrible at insulting people. She was really mad at him one day because he was being petty and rude, and she was trying to come up with something devastating to say. All she could get out was "You're a facehead that smells like pee!"
So I guess you're all faceheads too.
But not you, because you're not a mod anymore. Consider yourself lucky, son.

Wait, there's a mane Skype group?
Wat do? Probably spend more time on Reddit. My time is almost evenly split between here and Reddit with a few Youtube videos here and there, with just a dash of The Verge. Take out one of those elements and I'll have to rebalance the remaining three.
But I would be very sad if this place was to vanish.
