  1. I'm having a pretty hard time understanding exactly what you're meaning to say, but are you implying that when we die and lose whatever gives us our consciousness - that in a finite period of time those pieces could come back together and basically reincarnate this exact consciousness? So I may reawaken in another billion years after I'm dead as the same person I am now

Yes, but something around 10^10^100 Planck times, or days, years, eons, with such a large number it does not really matter.
  2. If our brains die, it is dead.

It will lose all oxygen, all support from the bloodstream.

It needs circulation of blood to survive.

If it rots and dies, it won't be coming back.

It is very hard to define consciousness but my point is this; the system that allows for our brain to be "conscious" will probably take place again in a finite period of time.
  3. I was thinking about death as I often do (No, I'm not emo) and I came up with a hypothesis.

This point assumes no such thing as astral projection, a soul or anything of the sort.

Our brain is of a finite physical size, therefore only a finite number of quantum states can exist within an area the size of our brain, or smaller.

The majority of quantum states that exist within an area the size of our brain will not produce intelligence, far less consciousness.

Assuming consciousness originates from our brain, the specific quantum state that is our brain or even our individual consciousness could take place a second time.

    What do you think?

  4. well in that case you can try this ;) - http://lotphelp.com/...ivers-fedora-16, or

http://forums.fedora...ad.php?t=204752, but the method i gave you before should be compatible with

    fedora 16 as well though.

the "equivalent" to apt-get for fedora and rpm systems is yum, this requires a different method since for fedora you need a yum repository not a apt one.

I found a rather strange solution, I swapped my PCI-E connector for a MOLEX adapter and now it is working.

I guess it was some sort of issue with my PSU...

  5. have you tried installing even newer drivers than the what come with Ubuntu?

the Ubuntu one's might not just support that card yet, or good enough support.

    try this:

    sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install nvidia-current

I am no longer on Ubuntu, I switched to Fedora about a week ago.

What would be the equivalent of the "apt-get" command?

  6. Question; I put a new GPU in my computer (nVidia GTX 670) from an AMD card and now my screen is only showing green, both of my monitors and this does not happen in Windows.

    I did update my drivers.

I also have an excuse to post this now. :D

  7. I don't care what people say, /b/ was much better back in those days.

I have been on /b/ since mid to late 07 and it was much better back then. :'(

Yes, I started going on /b/ when I was 11 before you ask.

  8. What are you thoughts on it?

Is "true anarchism" even possible? Obviously if there is no law/government, someone will gain a monopoly on weapons/resources/men and they will become the law/government.

If you are an anarchist, how do you justify that?

Obviously there are some other issues with the very concept, and I do not believe true anarchism is possible.

You are just swapping one monopoly with another.

Are there any anarchists able to counter my point?

  9. What was the last thing you bought?

    I bought a low-end dedicated server with:

If that is what you pay, I am getting ripped off.

I have a VPS with 2 GB RAM and a 30 GB hard drive for $40/mo.

If I may ask, where do you rent yours?

OT: I got a new TV, 72 inch LED TV.

  10. When you have mindless shooters consuming 90% of the market, of course you'll have nay-sayers. I do believe that most classic games, and stand out modern gems SHOULD be considered as art. If they really make a lasting impression then I believe it's art.

Not all shooters are mindless, though.

Halo, probably one of the best shooters of all time is by no means mindless. It has a truly amazing story (over 10 books) and decent gameplay, as well as a pretty good community.

  11.

At this point, I don't trust the search feature but I did search for it and found nothing.

Also, sorry if this comes out badly written, I am tired and have been up for about 26 hours.

It is certainly a big topic as to weather video games are art, and I'm sure a lot of people here will say that they are.

But sometimes you have to state the obvious for people to see it, so without further adieu, we will examine what a game is made of.

Music: I think almost all people will agree that this is art.

Pictures/graphics: Also art, although a lot of games use stock images.

3D Modelling: Arguably art, I would say it is. You need to be quite creative to be good at this.

Programming/technical aspects: Very debatable, you do need some creativity to program but it is usually not art.

Story: Again, most people will agree that this is art.

    Marketing: Not really art.

Design: Probably art. This includes maps, vehicles, sound placement etc.

It is obvious that this is somewhat of an over simplification but I think it sums it up quite well, and even if it doesn't I think it suffices.

So I think what can be drawn is that video games are not art, but a combination of many things. Some of which are art, and some not.

This is not to say video games do not take a lot of talented people to make, and I have some of the utmost respect for people like Martin O'Donnell, Jason Jones, Markus Persson (Notch) and many others.
