  1. I've actually been mulling over how Shining Armor and Cadence might add some depth to their characters... because for some reason I do like them, and I do want to see them transcend their current 2 dimensional profiles. I think the best way to do that is actually to concentrate on their marriage and the inevitable difficulties that that entails. I think the reason why I like Shining Armor is because I was kind of fascinated when he got uppidy with fake Cadence/Crysalis when she didn't want him to wear his uncles uniform. It was the first time we saw Shining Armor being a person and not a poster child. Granted that was fake Cadence/Crysalis and not the real Cadence, but thats not to say that Shining Armor and real Cadence can't or shouldn't have similar moments. They SHOULD disagree with eachother and get under eachother's mane... they should... they should have a fight!!! Because thats what real couples do! Now I know Cadence has this gift of making couples make up with eachother, but what if she refused to use it for her own relationship? Or maybe she can't use it for herself? Now Cadence and Shining Armor are getting interesting... Of course true love does prevail in the end. But true love isn't a fairy tale... its earned... its not easy to aqquire. It takes effort. Thats a good lesson to be teaching your demographic.
  2. I'd love to try airsoft or paintball, but honestly what I'm really saving my money up for is 3 gun competition. Real guns, real ammo... course I'm dirt poor and its going to be a long time before I can afford a firearm. Especially in the current 'firearmaggedon' atmosphere where political talk alone has doubled the price of an AR-15.
  3. My head canon theory is that Cadence's ancestors were the original king and queen of the CE, but King Sombra took over and they went into exile. After the CE dissapeared Cadence's ancestors beseeched Princess Celestia, and Celestia gave them sanctuary in Canterlot. During the next thousand years they intermarried with Canterlot commoners, thinning their bloodline to the point where they no longer had Crystal Pony 'shinyness.' I also imagine that after a while the CE royal family were no longer producing alicorn offspring, and Cadence being born an alicorn was taken as a sign that the Empire would be returning soon and that she would be destined to return as its ruler.
  4. I like Cadance and Shining Armor, though they are underdeveloped and somewhat two dimensional, but then they havn't had very much screen time. Still, even if they did get more screen time I worry that they might be stuck as two dimensional characters, what character flaws could they possibly have that would seem to fit them? About the only thing we have to be curious about is how Cadance is a princess and how is it that she is the defacto ruler of the Crystal Empire. My guess is that she is the last living blood heir descendent of the original king and queen of the Empire before Sombra took over.
  5. Tubby Wubby Pony Waifu. I love this song! Its so catchy! I have a feeling its going to be the next Pinkies Brew. Its only been out a month and its already got several covers and remixes. ...if I ever get married, I wonder if my wife would sing this with me at our wedding.
  6. Not my favorite episode. It was flat, contrived, and I actually felt a little bored watching it. I had this weird feeling that the Mane 6 were actually trying too hard to be their parts as opposed to just being their parts, I.E. it felt like they were over acting. Pinkie Pie did this the most, though Rainbow Dash did it alot also. I know, there are lots of times in MLP that are over the top but still enjoyable, but for some reason the overacting and panickyness in this episode just didn't have 'da magics.' The comedy felt forced, and given that this was a comedy-of-errors fiasco type episode it basically sinks or swims on the comedy, and the comedy sank like a lead sinker. It doesn't help either that I didn't like the last episode for some of the same reasons, and so the snyc up actually worked against this episode for me. I think what I dislike the most though is that we are wrapping up the season, and we've had the Crystal Empire feature in back to back episodes... ok great, end of the season, Crystal Empire, recipe for epic adventure right? Nope... just filler eps. Oh well, hopefully the finale will be the awesomeness... ugg, but I'm not looking forward to inbetween seasons time. It feels like we just got out of inbetween seasons time. This season really flew by fast.
  7. House Slytherian... its not that we're that good, its just everybody else sucks. I like Slytherian. To me the power hungry sorceror is one of the most interesting (and also tragic) characters in fantasy/science fiction, and Slytherian does definetly seem to embody that.
  8. Captain Price from Call of Duty punches Fluttershy! ..and come on, have a sense of humor about it. The guy isn't a brony hater, and I found this video hillarious. ...besides, if Captain Price hadn't have stopped her, Fluttershy would have blown up a subway station.
  9. The Canterlot Wedding where Pinkie Pie is decorating everything in her innocent childlike way, and fake Cadance says 'Perfect! ...if we were celebrating a six year olds birthday party.' And of course Pinkie Pie takes it as a complimant. It was funny on a couple levels. It was in character for Pinkie because she would take something like that as a compliment, and also there was a sense that the show creators were poking fun at themselves and the childlike nature of the show.
  10. The Twilight Sparkle one is still my favorite. I guess I just respond well to that particular voice. I have a problem with twitching also, but don't let a twitch or an itch make you think its going to ruin the session, if you think it will ruin the session than it KIND OF WILL. You can actually twitch and jerk around quite a bit and as long as you accept it and incorporate it as part of what it takes to relax than it won't hinder the hypnotism. In fact I've actually gotten up out of my chair momentarily, sat back down and in moments was back to where I was. Again folks, its totally safe and it ends when you want it to end. I like having hooves, but when I decide I need to get up and make myself a sandwich its pretty easy to turn all that off... harder I think would be to try and keep it going (but also more fun XD ) Try thinking of yourself as clay or putty and the words are shaping you. Also think of the words 'let go, and give in.' I know those sound like abstract instructions but hypnosis is an abstract art.
  11. Nice thing about being old: having a credit card. Bad thing about being old: having a credit card that doesn't have any money on it.
  12. I imagine I've gone several weekends without saying a word, but conditions have never been right for me to go longer than that, so I'd say I've gone two days without speaking. Although I am one to talk to myself at times, but I don't know if that counts since its not so much that I'm socializing but rather just thinking out loud. If the conditions were right I'm sure I could go months without speaking, and I'd probably love it.
  13. Faustus: How comes it then that though art out of Hell? Mephistopheles: Why this is Hell, nor am I out of it. It comes from the play Dr Faustus which was written in the 1500s by Chrisopher Marlow. When I first read that part in my English lit class my jaw dropped open.
  14. The end of Canterlot Wedding Part I, where fake Cadence sends Twilight into the caves underneath Canterlot. Shining Armor had just got done telling Twlight off, and just for a second you start thinking 'huh, maybe Twilight is just being paranoid,' then Cadence surronds Twilight with green fire and you're jaw just drops open with how awesomely it plays out.
  15. I'm trying to join the US Army, but I can't until I get my weight down to 180 lbs (I currently weigh 220). So yeah I do have a vested interest in the military and firearms. I don't own any firearms myself (though I really want to), but I just can't afford a super expensive hobby piece like that right now. The guns I want include an AR-15 (either from Armalite, or Rock River Arms), a modernized FAL made by DSA (.308 Winchester, it even has 'win' in its name). I'd also like a Cz-75 Phantom pistol, and a Sig P266 pistol. What mostly got me interested in joining the Army was my dad. My dad is a Vietnam war veteran, and I was raised on his stories. I'd also say my love of history also drives me to enlist, though in truth I'm not that big into military history. I'm far more interested in philosophical and religious history.
  16. Certainly not my favorite episode. It was clunkey, unlogical, hastily slapped together, and it doesn't help that I'm not the biggest Spike fan. The comedy just wasn't there for the most part. The only part that really made me laugh was the Winona flattened by the industrial hair dryer bit. I was however, more delighted than I thought I would be seeing Tank back again, and it was cute how he licked and nuzzled Rainbow Dash. Oh and Screw Loose too, glad to see her again. A bomb episode, but hey, bombs happen. Edit: I'm suprised how many favorable critiques this episode is getting. I'm starting to wonder if I missed something. Suppose I'll just have to watch it again.
  17. Well... that was AWESOME! I just tried Twilight for the first time and felt pretty much everything. Half way through I was giggling 'I has a horn' lol. I've been interested in hypnotism for a while now and I know a little bit about it (ever since my psych prof in college told me there is actually something to it), so it was a little easier for me. All I can say is, you have to 'give in,' yes its a placebo, but guess what, the placebo effect actually has tangible results (learned that in psych class too). Give in... just let the voice take control, and you will begin to experience the things that he's suggesting. And yes, this is 100% safe, you only give him control for as long as you want him to be in control. In fact about about 3/4s of the way through the video I was like 'lol, ok yeah you know what you're doing, I'm me again.' And I was me again. Simple as that. The only reason why I didn't zap back to being me again earlier than that is because I DIDN'T WANT TO. I WANTED to be Twilight Sparkle for a while and yeah I got pretty close. I felt the horn, I felt the hooves, almost felt the mane. And I knew what was happening too, I knew at any moment I could stop it if I wanted to, but I didn't, cause it was fun. BTW, look up my post in the life advice forum on how to cure panic attacks if you suffer from panic attacks... that's hypnotism too.
  18. I'm of the school of thought that the Shadowbolts are a real team in Equestria, and that they are somehow linkied with Luna/Nightmare Moon, a secret asset if you will. Yeah I know that's totally headcanoned. I've also got this idea about Soarin's younger brother being a Shadowbolt.
  19. After rewatching the episode, the wheels in my head started turning and I thought 'hmm, this is a perfect villain origin story.' Lightning Dust gets more or less dishonorably discharged from the Wonderbolt Academy, and from her point of view, Rainbow Dash has almost used her as a stepping stone. It would be easy to bring her back as a villain in season 4. Would you like to see her brought back as a villain? Personally I'd love to see her in conjunction with the Shadow Bolts. Maybe she's become the Shadow Bolt's captain.
  20. Real World Places: New Orleans Cadiz Spain Rome Florence Greece Crete Jerusalem Fictional Places: Equestria (though I really really wish that teleport machine doubled as something that could turn you into a pony) Star Wars universe (Tatooine, Naboo, and Nar Shada would be the main places I'd want to go) Naruto universe (but only if I could be a super badass shinobi) Skyrim The Warhammer Fantasy world
  21. Hypnotic effects wear off the moment you want them to wear off. I've dabbled in hypnosis for a while and the only thing I've really succeded in doing is curing my panic attacks (which that on its own has made it worth while). The way I define hypnosis is anything that takes advantage of brain quirks. For example, have you ever gotten up to go to a differant room and when you get to that room you suddenly forget why you went there? Its a funky little brain quirk, and believe it or not, its times like that when you are easily subjected to hypnotic suggestion. Hypnosis is harmless, it can't make you do anything you're strongly obliged not to do. This sounds fun, Ima try it later.
  22. Of course! It all makes sense now. Simba is a Dovahkin! Things I learned: -Bad guys that break out in song are somehow all the more menacing -Princess Jasmin is hot
  23. I don't know, for some reason I want to write about this. I was 18 when 9/11 happened, you would think I would have strong and clear memories of it, and I kinda do, but its mostly anecdotal and stuff that happened to me personally following those days. I vaguely remember coming upstairs and seeing my parents glued to the tv screen. I saw one plane go into the tower and I was like 'wtf? how does a pilot manage to do something that stupid?" Than I saw the second plane and I was like 'oh fuck... this was deliberate.' For the next week I was actually afraid that something like that might happen in Seattle. For the first time in my life, I was honestly afraid of a possible attack on my home city. I remember going down to the storage room and looking for our American flag which we promptly hung outside our house. I also remember a couple days later we drove downtown just because we do that sometimes, and I remember seeing a truck decked with American flags and honking his horn going through the streets and pumping his fist out the window. Just trying to be ultra patriotic I guess. I also remember going on a hike in the Washington state mountains about 2 weeks afterword. I don't remember the hike, what I remember is us getting to the look out point, and my dad saying to me 'you know Nick, with the world trying to kill itself, this is a much nicer spot to be.' I'll always remember that. I remember there were flags everywhere. The mainstreet in my little burrogh (West Seattle) was decked with red, white, and blue, and a lot of cars were sporting flags too. The political feeling... honestly... was 'lets go bomb someone.' We didn't care who it was, we just wanted to know who the culprit was and we wanted revenge. Even I got kind of swept up in that. As soon as GW Bush said 'Afghanistan, Taliban, Bin Laden,' we were all like 'great! Lets get some!' Well 90% of us were anyway. It wasn't until Bush started talking about invading Iraq that the majority of Americans were kinda like... ummm... ok.... I remember the fear lasted for a good three weeks or so. The fear that we might actually be bombed. If you grew up in the 90s which I did than you pretty much felt like the US was untouchable and that nothing from outside could actually hurt us. 9/11 proved us wrong.
  24. First off, I'm 29. 1. I know how to use one and I used on in the late 80s. My grandma had one. Actually a pretty nifty little piece of retro tech. 2. I got internet access in my home I think when I was around 14. It actually wasn’t that great because it was super slow, didn’t have half the cool things on it that it does today, had that loud ‘screeching’ dial up noise, and my parents didn’t let me play on it much anyway (cause of the porn). Cooler and more significant for me was the first PC video game I ever played which was Warcraft 2… good times. 3. I was in my first year of college when 9/11 happened. The first major world shaking event that I remember is the Berlin Wall coming down (reunification of Germany, the collapse of the Soviet Union). I remember watching the news cast, but I was only like 4 or 5 years old so I didn’t know what the Berlin Wall was at the time. 4. Again, my grandma had such a tv, and I remember watching that during the mid to late 80s. 5. Hurrican Katrina is in history books? 0_o That happened yesterday for me. 0_o Reading about Bill Clinton? Well for me the Clinton administration time period was a happier time for me overall, sure there was bad stuff going on, the usual middle and high school bull, but overall I think I was happier back then. Reading about the Clinton admin might actually give me nostalgia. And as I said above, I remember the news cast for the Berlin Wall but that was quite young for me, so reading about it in history books doesn’t phase me (I do remember that some of my history books mentioned it while I was in high school). 6. My dad until very recently, he only got his first cell phone maybe two years ago. I only got my first cell phone about 4 years ago myself. I’m rather anti-social so have little need of such bobbles. 7. Son, I remember playing the Atari ET game on the original Atari system that had WOOD PANELING… so yeah I remember floppys. (And yeah, that game did suck… bad). 8. I dunno, late 90s? I do seem to recall looking up numbers for gaming/comic book stores around that time period. 9. You’re going to make me choose? It would either have to be Thunder Cats or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, both of which were highly in vogue when I was in Kindergarten. In fact, I remember in Kindergarten your ‘status’ was measured by how many Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle toys you had. 10.) Sure 80s cartoons seem dated to me, even in the 80s they showed older cartoons so when you’re little you can’t really tell the difference between a 60s cartoon and a 80s cartoon. I can now though, but I would consider both to be ‘old’ cartoons.
  25. We already know they eat eggs. And I remember in the Babs Seed episode we saw Rarities dad fishing, so they probably eat fish too. As for the gravy, probably some kind of synthetic... does anyone else find it hillarious that Tabitha St Germain voiced the gravy boat?
