Comet Dancer

Alex Van Gamer
  • No Not Cast Young Adult

A slightly taller than average stallion with a lean body build with a light silvery grey coat. He has short purple hair with white highlights and golden yellow eyes. Comet Dancer owns a pair of thin-rimmed purple reading glasses that matches the main color of his hair; the lenses are round enough to outline the circumference of his eyes.

Comet Dancer also wears a purple cravat with a white tongue (the cloth between the neck piece).

He seems to walk with a touch of elegance, his hooves never seeming to make a sound when he walks, trots or runs. He is also extremely flexible thanks to his talent and practice as a dancer.

Comet Dancer is a cheerful, optimistic sort of stallion, always thinking on the bright side even when things seem bleak. He does know things in life can get pretty tough, but he has a strong belief that everything can turn around for the better in the end. He's not the best at cheering people up with jokes, but compliments, confidence boosting speeches, and the occasional hug; sometimes his horrible attempts at a joke end up being the joke as well, so it works to his favor sometimes.

He also suffers from Automatonophobia, which is the fear of anything that falsely represents a sentient being; it is a type of specific phobia. This includes, but is not limited to, ventriloquist dummies, animatronic creatures, mannequins, scarecrows, and wax statues.

Comet Dancer is a fairly confident pony in some regards when it comes to his quick wits, skill in dance, and decently high vocabulary. However, he doesn't have very good confidence in his singing quality. Though there have been some ponies who've heard him sing say he sounds good, he tends to believe they're just saying so to be nice. So he simply sings to himself in private, although he found another hobbyist singer (Alex) that's been slowly starting to get him out of his singing bubble, it's still a work in progress.

Speaking of Alex --as well as a recall to some confidence issues, Comet Dancer has a fairly large crush on his diamond dog companion, but hasn't quite figured out how to tell her about his feelings towards her and isn't quite sure how she would react to such information. So there will be the odd occasion where he will stutter or act slightly timid around her.

Although Comet's parents weren't 'professionals' in the arts, they still showed a great deal of support and interest in them, going to a lot of performances, art museums, and so on. They even stylized a name based around dancing for their first born due to having to rush to the hospital during a late night, outdoor musical performance. Slowly after Comet received his cutie mark, his parents began to joke about how he must have really wanted to be born so that he could dance to the music.

Comet Dancer was born in Manehattan, filled to brim with color, life, and music. His parents would take him to plays and musicals every weekend which always excited him.

As a young filly, he was still quite cheerful and happy, although fairly naive and clueless. He let things roll off his back mainly due to the fact that he had no idea what was happening or didn't quite understand what was being said. This unfortunately led him to making friends with ponies who easily starting taking advantage of him.

One of his 'friends' had a sister who owned local a boutique and invited him and some other colt friends hang out with him. Comet's friend suggested they play Hide and Seek and they all agreed. While somepony else was the counter, his friend suggested that Comet hide inside a storage room, and obliviously, he did. The room was filled with spare mannequin figures, which at first didn't bother him. After what seemed like a long time, however, Comet tried to get out of the room thinking the game was probably over by that time. But the door wouldn't open; his friend's having locked the door on him as a prank.

He was in the storage room for hours, long after his friends left, having forgotten about him, when the owner of the boutique opened the door to deposit a broken mannequin and retrieve a new one. She found Comet there on the floor crying. And after having asked him what happened, she scolded her brother for such rotten behavior.

After a talk with the parents, his parents decided to move to Ponyville, a much smaller community filled with more welcoming and friendly ponies. Comet didn't mind the move too much at first, now having a broader mind to the fact that not everything could be sunshine and rainbows. He decided to wisen up, be more conscious of the things around him so he couldn't be taken advantage of again.

A little more than halfway through the year, Comet seemed to be getting a little homesick, not knowing the cause, he starting jotting down a list of things he'd left behind. His home, his friends... but none of that seemed to trigger any notion of why he was feeling so down.

That changed after his school teacher decided to hold a talent show. Telling his parents about this, they suggested he try dance, seeing as he had often been seen bouncing to the music in live action performances back in Manehattan. It didn't take much to convince him and he happily agreed with the idea.

It took him weeks to practice and perfect his routine, but soon he felt he was ready to rock the stage. Wearing a purple and pink star glittered vest his parents ordered for him, Comet Dancer went on to perform one of his favorite dances, "The Galactic Trot" from the musical "Starry Skies".

The crowd loved it, and that's when he figured out why he had been feeling so depressed. Back in Manehattan, he loved watching ponies perform on stage, doing what they enjoyed, and having been a part of that just then made him realize this was what he was born to do. And low and behold, his cutie mark emerged, matching the colors of his vest and the theme of his song choice.

In later years, once he was old enough to move out, he bought a house in Ponyville; near the old (and unfortunately now burned down) tree-house library. He would rent books there from time to time, mostly about dance, theater, art, and --on occasion-- outer space, science fiction, adventure, and fantasy stories. He is very open to diversity, so if somepony recommends some sort of book, he may check it out to see if it interests him or not.

Two years ago, his parents had announced to him that they were having another child, which they later found out was a baby boy and named him Jasper Jester (J.J. for short). Comet congratulated them and often makes frequent visits to his parents and newly born brother.

Though he's not too much of a gamer, he does still enjoys playing on some of the machines in the Ponyville arcade. And during one such visit, while in the middle of a level, he noticed a blue-haired diamond dog, roughly around the same age as him, who was starring at his game's screen. Being polite, he invited her to play with him and she was curious enough to agree.

Paying for two now rather than one, Comet ran out of bits much faster than expected. The canine, who he later found was named Alex, didn't seem to understand his predicament, but he was kind enough to clarify to her the value of money. The canine seemed desperate to keep playing however, when Comet realized she had gems she could use to exchange for bits, letting her know of the option she eventually agreed and they continued playing until closing time. They enjoyed one another's company and a friendship gradually grew between the two of them.

Comet Dancer showed the diamond dog around Ponyville, introduced her to the concept of collecting things other than jewels, sugary sweets, and dancing. Alex showed little skill in his talent, but he didn't mind, dancing wasn't for everypony, or canine in her case.

The two make frequent visits to the arcade as well as a few other places in Ponyville, just to hang out and chat. Alex sometimes likes to travel, so she often talks about the things she's seen on her trips. While she's away, Comet always offers to look after her house for her, checking in on it every once in a while to make sure her things are safe, her plants are watered, etc.

During one of their conversations, Alex told him that she'd decided to give herself a last name to blend in a little more with pony culture. Comet thought this was a fairly clever idea and supported it full-heartedly, and he could tell that she was happy to hear that he did.

Alex and Comet have known each other for about a year now, and about three months ago, he adopted a Yorkshire Terrier puppy. Alex seems to adore the little pup dearly, going ga-ga over the canine companion, often playfully whining or talking like a baby around the Terrier, which Comet finds both funny and adorable.

As of recent, he's overheard talk about the events of the return to 'The Midsummer Theater Revival' back up in Manhattan, and though he was upset for not being there to see it, he is happy that somepony was able to bring back such a wondrous occasion.

~Has a pet puppy (A Yorkshire Terrier) called Sapphire, named after his friend Alex's favorite gemstone.
~He knows a variety of dancing styles, from the classic waltz, the speedy tango, to the graceful ballet.

Comet looks fantastic! I'm happy to finally get to meet the pony alluded to in Alex's profile :)

I just found one tiny little issue to resolve before I send him along. You mention him getting his cutie mark in preschool, but preschool seems like it would be a little young for getting a cutie mark. I think simply describing him as being in school would be better there.
