Stardream

  • , No, Not Cast Mare

She has a midnight blue mane and tail, long and wavy. Has a dark blue coat, moving to near black it would seem from afar and green eyes. Basic care seems to have been taken in keeping her mane and tail clean and combed, but to some it could be considered a bit messy and with no real style to it.

((Stardream was made before Lunar Eclipsed. I am mentioning because of appearance similarities with Princess Luna)

female Pegasus Green outline of an eye with a black pupil surround in light blue aura. (A symbol of being able to see what others cannot)

Stardream wishes to understand her talent and who she is. She has decided that perhaps her parents hold the key learning what she needs to know. She wants to be able to talk to others about her talent... to make friends, but ones she can trust. Has a degree of uncertainty and shyness, especially involving her talent and others finding out about it. With often try and make excuses and even lie to cover herself when she says or does something others might find odd or strange. She is slow to trust others, because of a past relationship and failed friendships. Yet she can be good company once she opens up and will defend those she calls friends.

Likes: Seeing others take unneccesary risks, selfishness, those that don't think things through, ponies learning about her talent.

Named by the parents Stardream would never know she had to spend her earliest years at an orphanage, but was taken in by what would seemed to be a crabby high class old mare by the name of Sourbloom. It actually confused some why an earth pony would want to adopt a pegasus but the old mare was insistent. It wasn't until she was older that she understood why she even was adopted, though at least Sourbloom played with her bit, bought things for her, and paid attention to her... they did manage to become friends somehow. It would seem it didn't take much for the old mare to start complaining though, and it didn't help that Stardream wings and her learning to use them right broke things but it would seem most of the time Sourbloom just complained about her family who never visited and only seem to want her money.

It was when Stardream was a young filly she that she got her cutie mark. Having always had an interest in the night sky and feeling a comfort being under them... even thinking sometimes they could hear and understand her. She talked to the stars, considering them friends as she wished time and again that they would talk back to her. At times she thought they did, even hearing what would seem to be warnings that protected her from danger. Once listening to the stars had saved the live of her guardian, which is how she gained her cutie mark, in which Sourbloom had a small heart attack. The stars prompted Stardream to look for Sourbloom as soon as it started and because of this medical staff were able to get to her in time to stabilize her, thus saving the old mare's life.

When Stardream got older, Sourbloom started to show her age. Her health low, the old mare stayed in her bed and was watch over by nurses she had hired to watch over her condition at all times . One day Sourbloom call Stardream in, telling her something the old bat had never said before... that she loved her, that if it wasn't for her Sourbloom wouldn't have known what to do. She explained then why she had adopted her, not just because she was a lonely old mare but because she wanted somepony to pass on what she had gained in her long life. When Stardream ask about Sourbloom's other relatives she only laughed, saying they would just waste what she would leave behind justifying herself by saying they never cared about her. The two talk a bit more and share a tender moment, before being hurried out by the nurse on duty who told her Sourbloom needed rest.

So it was, Stardream lost the only family she had but gained more then the memories she had of the old mare. When the relatives found out that Sourbloom had stated in her will that everything would go to Stardream, they were not pleased to say the least. Yet the old bat had been smart and made sure control of the property was safe in the hooves of a friend until Stardream could legality own it, her final act being a a 'take that' to the family that only wanted her money. Yet Stardream didn't keep most of it anyway, having most of it given away to help build an planetarium in Canterlot. When old enough, and her schooling that her guardian had started to her was finished, Stardream left her home under the care of the servants... deciding to set off to find her place in Equestria.

Gaining a position as an apprentice to an older stallion named Star Gazer, a unicorn astrologer that studies the movements of the stars and other astral bodies and sends reports to Canterlot. Though it took some time to convince him to train her, partly because of how old she was and partly because he preferred to do his job alone. Yet it didn't take long for Stardream to show her knowledge of the stars and she did impress him... yet it was discovering her Talent that he said yes. You see by this point Stardream had a fair idea how her Talent worked, it becoming of use in her life. Yet she still kept most ponies from knowing about it, as who would believe that a pegasus could see the future. That she could speak with the stars and once in a while have strange dreams, dreams that oddly connect to herself and others around her. It was an odd gift to say the least, especially for a pegasus, as normally one could only use spells to divine such things. This is what got Star Gazer to say yes, as it fascinated him that was her talent. This surprised Stardream, thankful even, as it was rare for those few she told to believe her so quickly. So with that she traveled with Star Gazer and learned how to be a astrologer herself.

Later Stardream met a handsome stallion unicorn named Mythos in Canterlot, a storyteller and scholar that seemed to have been all over Equestria. They became close, Mythos even inviting her at times to go out for some fun and to see what Canterlot could offer. As time went on, Stardreams feelings for Mythos grown until she even started to fall in love with him. Yet she found out that Mythos had been hiring his research based skills to ponies of an unsavory feel to Stardream, the stars warning her of danger. When she found out some of these ponies were hurting others, she confronted Mythos about it. What she heard him say shocked her, as he explained he found nothing wrong with helping these ponies, even if some were hurting others by their actions. Stardream couldn't let it go, and tried for sometime to convince Mythos to stop helping them. When he wouldn't she finally gave up and said that she couldn't do this, that she couldn't stay with Mythos if he continued his work as he did. With tears in her eyes she said that she just did not understand how the nicest pony she know would be willing to help those that hurt others.

With that she left him which hurt very much, and she moved back to Trottingham. She got back in contact with her old mentor asking for work, who hired her without question as his assistant because he remembered her reliability... though she had to start traveling often again because of this.

Stardream's biggest limitation when it comes to her Talent is that of her lack of understanding with how it works as well not having someone there to help her train her abiliy.

    Lack of experience essentially.

Next off is th fact that Stardream rarely understands in full what she is being told or shown, if at all. Others may well need to help her figure things out.

Lastly, apart from having a danger sense/warning system in place to keep her safe and others as well... any other use of her talent must be agreed on by the player(s) involved as well as the one running the roleplay.

    ---------------

On what her talent allows her to do: she can learn about a pony's past or future by the information given to her through communication with the stars. Stardream can see visions of things to come, most often 'snapshots' of the future then anything else, and being warned of danger as well for herself and/or others.

Hello EquestrianScholar, I will be doing your OC review for today.

Stardream shows a lot of potential, but some changes are needed.

First off, Personality, the opening line of the personality is very confusing. To the average reader it is hard to understand. I understand that you may have wanted to be artistic when writing it, but keeping it simple works best. Other than that line, the personality checks out from my end.

Moving on to the back story. It was very difficult to read. There were a few grammar errors that would need to be fixed, as well as the formatting. Double spacing between the paragraphs would do wonders for the ease of the readers.

As for her seeing hints of the future and talking to the stars, could you go into more detail on how it works and it's limitations.

There's a fine line to be toed with her powers, but if you can keep them properly limited in scope, she should be fine once she's tidied up.

Thank you for updating Stardream. Her back story is now easier on the eyes, as well as more uniform.

Seeing bits and peices of the future through dreams are fine, as we do 100% know how the dream world works. I personally know that Deja Vu can happen. As long as it is kept something similar to this, I have no problem.

Going on to the talent. I honestly can say talking to the stars to find out a pony's past has me a bit worried, even if it is with the user's permission. The potential exists for her to become overpowered.

Currently you state that her powers are kept in check by not knowing what they are, or how to understand them. I can understand this, but I would need a guarantee that she would never fully understand them as long as she is used in Equestrian Empire before I would feel comfortable approving her.

As for her "Early Warning System" I can also see this being a lot like Deja Vu. As long as it is similar, I see no problem there.

My main concern on this character is the fact that the potential for powerplaying is very high. The future in of it very self is completely unpredictable. So while seeing something similar in a dream and reacting to it at a later point would be okay, directly being able to see a pony's future would not be allowed, simply because of the fact that with that, you could literally use that power to get somepony to do whatever you'd like even if it wouldn't be in the nature of that character to do so.

An Example:

A pony comes up to you and asks for you to tell them your future.

You character would be able to see an event coming and you tell them said event will happen.

That said event would now have to happen to other character in order for the continuity of your character to remain intact, otherwise it would look like the character is a fraud.

So what we end up getting, is a form of set up character control. The only way this could be allowed would be if these readings of the future are imprecise, and as vague as possible so that the user of all characters involved can still be free to act as their characters would and would still have a chance of falling into your character's ability.

As far as being able to sense a characters past, I would say that would have to be limited as well, because being able to go up to any pony and instantly tell everything about them, is a bit unnerving. Especially since there are many characters who don't want their pasts known by very many, including my own. That would provide easy grounds for meta-gaming because your character would gain access to information about any character that they wouldn't normally tell them. While it's possible for backstories to come up, and come up often, something like that should be done via roleplay.

Now, one way this could work, and would be really the only way that I would consider allowing such an ability, is if when Stardream was using her ability, each "vision" would be a separate RP where the user of said character in vision has a way to explain the character's past in their own fashion. Simply using it to look through a character though and learn everything about them, is not going to pass.

After the discusion via PM on this character, I am moving this character to the pending second approval section under the clause that this character be monitored during roleplays for a brief while to make sure the character stays within the abilities listed via this character sheet and Via PM. Future edits may be needed based on the roleplay of the character.

Second approval, but only with the condition that was discussed through PM. The staff of EQE and Pony Roll Play reserve the right to require further edits to the character if not played according to her limitations. She is approved, but will be monitored.
