• Alex

    Alex Van Gamer

    • Age: young adult

      Gender: Female

      Species: Non-Pony

      Appearance:
She is shorter than average diamond dogs, she has dark grey fur with a light grey underbelly. Her hair is pale shade of sky blue with vertically curvy strips of white; it stretches down towards her shoulders and there's a small white curl that forms just below the ears on both sides. Her eyes are light blue, with pale sky blue pupils, matching the color of her hair. She wears a bright blue vest, with gems sticking out of her left breast pocket, a dark blue bowtie, with a gem at it's center, all accompanied with white clown-like cuff-lings on both of her wrists.

      Cutie Mark:
N/A

      Personality:
Alex has a fairly optimistic and cheerful attitude. She is very outgoing and enjoys being constantly active, the young diamond canine enjoys doing a lot of parkour and acrobatics. She is fairly fit and flexible, and with all her practice, can even fail with grace. However, that doesn't necessarily mean she's graceful, she still has her clumsy downfalls, but she does her best not to let it get to her emotions.

Almost upon dog instinct, she is very social and curious about things she doesn't know much about, especially ponies. She's heard rumors that there are some ponies that can actually track down gems, though it's rare, she hopes to meet one and bombard them with questions about how they acquired that ability, what they use it for, and things of that nature.

Despite her cheerfulness, the canine can also be a bit of a hot-head when something doesn't rub her the right way. Unlike the usual expression, her bark isn't worse than her bite. She tries to keep her cool as much as possible though, but certain humor, or extremely rude personalities irk her to no end.

Unlike most diamond dogs, she's a bit brighter than her canine brethren, yet still just as greedy. She's been known to snatch a gem or two from her own kind, hiding them in a small chest decorated with stickers and parts of stuffed animals sticking out of the chest to give other diamond dogs the assumption of it containing toys rather than gems. She's trying to reduce this urge by collecting things other than just gems (ie. buttons and pins) because she feels that if she allows herself to go with her urges, she could steal from the townsfolk she lives with, which from observations, is not acceptable in the pony community and it's a bit of a walk to the mountains from where she lives. Her gem-finding trips to the mountains aren't that frequent, but when she does go, she makes sure she finds enough of them to nitpick through to separate the good from the 'I'm willing to exchange this for bits'.

Alex loves seeing her friend's smile so she tries her best to keep their spirits up, making up joke that either makes sense or they don't. Anything to try to lighten the mood.

Being an arcade gamer, she is also very competitive, whether she playing against a friend or not. She stops at nothing to win a game and never goes easy on anyone, pony or not.

      Backstory:
Alex was born and raised in Dimondia, learning the basics of digging for/and hording gems. They were the most important objects to own it seemed, and the more you had, the more popular you were.

She'd seen many visitor pony's come and go and was always curious about what was out there. However, her parents told her not to worry about it, "Gems are more important than all that pony rubbish," they would say, but it didn't matter. She was determined to find out, and, the minute she was old enough to be on her own, she left Dimondia to explore the world!

Traveling across Equestria, she found herself venturing into a gaming arcade in a quaint little pony town. Her interest seemed to instantly peek at the strange moving screens, with ponies frantically smashing buttons and twirling joysticks, everything was so shiny and colorful, just like the gems she liked to collect.

During one of her random stare sessions, a young stallion playing the game she was watching noticed her interest and offered her a bit to play. Not having expected this, she awkwardly accepted... And she loved it! This new concept was bizarre, but intriguing at the same time.

The stallion introduced himself as 'Comet Dancer', and he showed the young Diamond Dog the basics of all the games he could until he ran out of bits, which confused the canine a bit until he explained how games needed bits in order to be playable.

And she wanted to play more, but alas, she didn't have any bits of her own, the only thing of worldly value on her was her gems. Noting this, Comet Dancer suggested she make an exchange, one gem for an equal amount of bits. This troubled the young canine. She treasured these gems greatly, but these 'Arcade Games' were so much fun. She reluctantly decided to exchange the least appealing gem she had, surprised that even that had a decent value in bits. Afterwards, the two of them continued to play until closing time. They enjoyed one another's company and agreed to hang out again soon.

Comet took it upon himself to show the canine around Ponyville, introduced her to the wonders of pins and buttons one could buy, collect and trade; the sweet taste of candies and cakes of Sugar Cube Corner, and shared with her his special talent in dancing. Unfortunately, she expressed poor skill in his talent, dancing as if she had two left feet, but he didn't mind it one bit. The two of them occasionally joke about her lack of skill in the subject.

Now, whenever she has time, she visits the same gaming arcade to play with the same stallion she met. She would be sure to collect enough gems that she would be willing to part with before she went of course. Alex also does arrange occasional hang-out sessions with Comet outside the arcade so that she could learn more about the town as well as Comet himself, expressing herself in ways she's never done with any creature else... They've known one another for over a year now, and have never regretted the day they met each other.

The games she grew so found of playing intrigued her so much that she decided to giver herself a last name, since a majority of ponies seemed to have two (sometimes even three) names. These names, she noticed, often related to their talents or even things that related to their personality. And, being a species that seemed to stand out in these pony-populated towns, she wanted to try and fit in with the crowd a bit, but still have that unique flare that everypony had. So she gave herself the last name 'Van Gamer'. It seemed like the kind of last name a pony would have.

Currently, Alex owns a small house in Ponyville, not far from Sugar Cube Corner, trying to adapt and learn to better interact with her pony neighbors. She chose Ponyville because it was where she met her first pony friend and the simplicity of the town, as well as how diverse it was, made her feel as though she had a good shot at being accepted into their little society. She still wants to travel Equestria however, so she arranges a certain time frame for her travels before coming back to Ponyville. Whenever she travels, she asks her friend to house-sit, renting a hotel in whatever town she's visiting.. Alex knows this wont work forever, since she'll only be going in a certain perimeter with this particular time frame and that she'll have to break the schedule she has now to get to even further places. But that's for Future Alex to worry about...
