Briar Trapjaw
By Blitz Boom
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Species: Non-Pony
Appearance:
The flower on his head is not ornamental, but grows out of a seed in his skull, and much like a unicorns horn, are the source of what power he does have.

Beneath the cape is a budding, purple flower on each side of his body. The petals are ornamental, but the bud is the end of the thorny vine he can sprout from either side, and it can open up into 4, sturdy parts, acting much like an octopus beak.

What looks like fur on him is actually a soft type of grass that looks similar, but only in appearance as if you feel it you will be able to tell the difference.

His mane and tail is a sort of thin straw with the same flow to it as hair, but it will feel more akin to wheat straws.

While he does have eyelids he never opens them as there is nothing behind them than a blank, green surface and he found that it tends to creep ponys out.

Cutie Mark:
None. Briar's kind dosn't have them.

Personality:
Briar's personality can best be described as polite, calm and collected with a hint of playful taunting.

His voice is soothing with a alluring undertone that makes some think of it as a charismatic version of the devil on their shoulder.

Backstory:
The exact location of where he is from is something he dosn't reveal, but Briar tells enough so that ponys can paint a picture of how it is like at least, and why he is no longer welcome there.

Where he is from, the type that you are when you grow determines what social status you have. The Lotus kind were considered spiritual guides, the Simmerbarks the muscle and guards of their society and various Vinemasters were their architects, creating the chambers where they resided, just to name a few.

Amongst the lesser classes though, were the Snaproots. Their kind rarely grew, a mutation of other seeds more than anything, and as such they varied in shape and sizes, although their trademark signs were all the same: Sharp teeth and no eyes. They were considered the lowest of the ranks because they were carnivorous tricksters with no real purpose. Luring prey to their waiting maws and planting only death were not welcome in their ranks, so to at least make some use of them they were made to serve at an early age. More pets than anything else.

Such was the fate of Briar when he grew out of the great tree in his jungle home. A carnivorous, blind plantling like the rest of his class, he was shunned down to the pit that made their home and grew slowly in the shadow, waiting the day he would be pulled up and made to serve.

When he was 10, the tribe pulled him up and he was given to a Thornbark, the ones who reinforced their home from outsiders and what Briar would have been if he had not been corrupted.

The Thornbark, Elder Piker, put the unnamed new possession of his to work setting up the walls he created, and after a few days, named the Snaproot Briar.

It was unusual to name the Snaproots since they were not to be individuals, but Piker needed something to yell at rather than just a description as there were a few more of the servants in his line of work and he needed to direct his critic at someone in particular, rather than all at once.

It meant little to Briar at the time, but as the years passed and the words kept hailing down on him he began to realise that even if he was being criticised, it was him alone. The words were for him, and if he did as told he would sometimes even get a small *Good job Briar* towards him, even if it was rare.

It wasn't much, but it made him feel as an individual rather than just a drone, and in the end, it would be that feeling that forced him to leave.

He was 16 at the time when Piker returned to the earth, having passed enough years to wish for
rest, when a Lotus, Sage Velvet, came forth to take ownership of Briar.

He had taken Pikers abuse because he had known nothing else and at least was given something of an identity there, but as the new face officially stripped him of his name and deemed that one such as him was not worthy of that, he lashed out, literally.

The vine on the right side of his back grew, and in front of several others, connected to his self proclaimed owners face, sending her tumbling down with a red scar across her face.

What followed was an outrage. The general populace of the tribe stood behind Sage Velvet in her demands that he should be burned until even his core were ash for the transgression, feeling insulted that he even touched her, let alone knocked her down in a public embarrassment like he had.

Yet, even if he was considered low on the ranks, their laws were clear against executions. As such, the best the tribal court could do was to mark him with the coloured rings they used to identify crimes and banish him from the jungle.

The colour combination were important in case he tried to settle down in another part of the jungle, as any lesser tribe would know what it meant and shun him too, forcing him to leave for the outside world.

Before he left, he was asked to turn and apologise for what he had done to cleanse the air if nothing else, an order that made him give a mocking answer in return, directed at his own as well as the others.

"I were born a thing, but leaves as a person. What do I have to be sorry for?"

With that he left the tribe, determined to never returning to that place.

In the 9 years since then, Briar have been far and wide across the lands and have experienced things that he had not thought possible. Civilisation, Racial diversity, equality and so on. The list are long and it have only increased with each passing day.

Amongst the more interesting things have been other tribes of Evergrown, and the diverse ways they have worked. A fair bit ran like back where he was from, with birth deciding what fate you had in store, but others were more free. Where any kind could be what they wanted if they could only prove themselves in that field.

The most surprising for him was how they reacted to him though. Of the 30 or so tribes he have found over the years, only 5 of them were not keen on letting him near their homes, and only 2 of those were because of what he was, 2 further was because he looked weird and they didn't trust his sharp teeth, and only 1 even recognised his rings as being a mark for a crime, even if they didn't know what one it was.

Most of the others still didn't completely trust him of course, but being under guarded escort was still better than being shunned, and they were still plenty interested in hearing his stories, just like he was about hearing theirs.

His necklace is from one of such places. A gift he received after helping with setting up a defensive wall around a smaller tribe after a storm had wrecked their old one.

Now, his travels brings him to the Everfree Forest in search of new experiences in the diverse habitat. After having met a peculiar riddling pony who called herself Zecora, he have set his course for the town of Ponyville for now on her advice that that would be an experience he could use.

What awaits he dosn't know, but as the sounds of the small torn filters through the trees he begins to wonder who he will meet there, and it brings a smile to his face.
