Cutie Mark: Her Cutie mark is of rolled up blueprint. It is supposed to symbolize her expertise in building.
Personality: Charcoal is a pony who, at first, will generally not talk much unless you get her into the conversation. But even then she will be shy and secluded a lot of the time. It is only when you get to know her and gain her trust does she open up and will not even seem very shy.
Backstory: When Charcoal was a little filly back in Cloudsdale, she was always made fun of. She was born with a condition in her wings that prevented her from ever flying. No matter what her parents did or what doctors she was brought to they always said that she will never have any hope of flying. Having given up hope Charcoal's parent's nearly threw her out in disgust, but decided against it. They waited to see if any new advanced in magic would be able to give their daughter the ability of flight again.

Many years after, and Charcoal is grown up a bit and was going to school. It was no secret to any of the ponies at school that Charcoal had a major disorder. Thus, she was the joke of the school. She never had any friends and everypony at school made fun of her every day. And every day coming home she would always get yelled at by her parents and soon afterword get beaten by them. Then one day she decided enough was enough. On the night of her birthday she snuck out of her parents house and stole a hot air balloon she found and flew it to the only other town she had ever seen, Ponyville.

Though, on the way to Ponyville Charcoal started hearing some sort of crackling sound from the balloon. She simply ignored it for a while, and when she was nearly to Ponyville the basket broke and she fell through. When she hit the ground she passed out, but not before seeing one pony come over to her and asking if she was okay.

When she woke up she was in the hospital and was told by one of the doctors that she was going to be perfectly fine. She had gone into a coma, but hadn't received and brain injury and was going to get a full recovery. About 3 weeks later she was released from the hospital and was shown around by a filly who would soon become her first friend, Caprisha. Charcoal soon had to leave her when it was getting late and she had to go home. Charcoal went off on her own and without some place to stay, slept in a box that she had put together from some plywood she had found. But then she had an idea that was better.

After about 2 weeks of planning and gathering of supplies that had been thrown out she had enough material to build her out house. It took her many days, but she used every last bit to build a rudimentary from the scraps she had collected. When she finished she had a small, but livable house. It was kind of like a small storage room. But when she had finished, she had also gotten her cutie mark as well. She had never smiled more than she did that day.

For another year Charcoal spend her time in Ponyville. She met a few ponies, didn't make friends, but she still met a few really nice ponies while she was there. Then one day while she was walking back to her home that she had improved as much as she could from when she first built it she was stopped by some pegasus guards. They were sent by her parents to get her back and bring her home. Without even giving her a chance to say goodbye Charcoal found herself being hauled back to Cloundsdale and back home where she received the most vicious beating she had ever gotten.

Then when she was finally old enough to move out Charcoal snuck out yet again and moved back to Ponyville and back to her old home where she continues to live there to this day.
