Species: Pegasus

Appearance: Ion is a golden yellow pegasus with a pink/red mane with a blue stripe through it. Her tail is the same colour as her mane and also has a blue stripe. She wears a gold tail band with a star, that was given to her by her older brother Ulysses before he joined the royal guard. She also wears a mane clip which is the same shape as her cutie mark (An atom).<br /><br />Ion's mane is naturally unruly and without her mane clip and tail band, can look quite messy (And rather cute).

Cutie Mark: Ion's cutie mark is an atom. It represents her love of science and learning and of her desire to spread knowledge.

Personality: Ion is outgoing, but can be a little shy around ponies she doesn't know. She does however become very excited when there is a chance to teach somepony and she has been known to get carried away. She doesn't take kindly to ponies questioning her intelligence. As a pegasus many of the unicorn scientists in Canterlot often belittled her on the grounds that she wasn't a unicorn, despite her being at the top of her class in almost every subject (Twilight Sparkle beat her in a few classes). As such she can get dragged into an intellectual debate with little effort (Something several ponies have later regretted).<br /><br />Ion is very friendly and will go out of her way to help her friends. She can be emotional at times and often worries unnecessarily. <br /><br />Ion does not however have any patience with bullies as she herself was bullied at a young age. She rarely stands by and lets it happen if she can help.<br /><br />As Ion's dream is to open an academy for gifted ponies of all types she spends a lot of her time volunteering at schools in Canterlot and most recently Ponyville. As such she is very good at working with young fillies and colts and she has a surprising amount of patience with them.<br /><br />Ion has a large collection of mane clips. She wears one fashioned after her cutie mark most of the time, but she wears all kinds of different ones for special occasions.

Backstory: Ion was born in Canterlot. Her parents (And now brother) are members of the Royal Guard. Despite this she was very different from them. Instead of wanting to fly and rush about as many pegasus fillies do, Ion instead wanted to read books and learn. Many ponies said she was a unicorn in a pegasus body. Her parents initially wanted her to follow them into the guard, but her brother Ulysses convinced them to encourage her learning. <br /><br />Ion attended summer flight camp as do most young pegasi and while she was not a weak flyer by any standards she wasn't interested in pushing herself like some would expect. While there she spent a lot of her time learning about how Equestria's weather was made and thought perhaps she would have a cutie mark in weather someday.<br /><br />Following this experience, she was accepted into the Manehattan School for Talented Ponies (Which her parents helped get her in) and she spend the next few years at the school. Her time at this school was not as great as she would have liked. As one of the few non-unicorn ponies (And the only pegasus) at the school she was often picked on by some of the other students. Despite this she got her cutie mark following a rather large explosion in her chemistry lab; which she unintentionally caused while trying to help some of her few friends at the school from failing an important end of year exam. From that point on she knew that science, learning and helping others to learn was her calling in life.<br /><br />Ion returned to Canterlot the attend University there following her graduation the Manehattan School. By this point her brother had become a full member of the Royal Guard and who she would see a lot of during her time in Canterlot. At the university she found herself working with Princess Celestia’s student Twilight Sparkle on several of her important research projects. Ion worked at near top of her class and graduated with full honours. During her time at university, Ion volunteered at many of Canterlot’s schools as a part time science and math tutor which she enjoyed greatly. <br /><br />Following her graduation, Ion carried on helping to teach the cities fillies and colts. Following the Changeling invasion of Canterlot Ion had a chance to catch up with her old friend Twilight Sparkle, who told her about her life in Ponyville and Ion decided that she wanted to help ponies outside of Canterlot. She has recently been offered a position helping tutor ponies at Cheerilee’s school in Ponyville and has just moved to the town.<br /><br />Ion's birthday is March 14th (Same day as she was initially conceived by me, which is a few months before I finalised her design).
