    Midnight Scribbler

    • Age: Depends on RP

      Gender: Male

      Species: Unicorn

Appearance: Average build, slightly smaller than most colts.<br />Dark blue coat with crimson mane that coils and drapes down.

Cutie Mark: A pen tip drawing a crescent moon with 3 stars around it.<br />His special talent is the ability to create portals, to travel instantly between two distant places. They can only be places he knows of.

Personality: Midnight scribbler is a shy one, who doesn't easily trust other ponies. Though he is friendly to those who are kind to him. He is generally reserved and calm, but is easily stressed out by negativity around him. He uses a variety of potent magic for various things and spends most of his time studying alone in his tower of books. His knowledge of science is vast, and loves to study the stars and planets with his telescope.<br /><br />He is a creature of the night, very seldom will he go outside during the daytime. The sun is hard on his sensitive eyes. If he is forced to, he wears a set of protective goggles, which have tint and magnification adjustment.

Backstory: Midnight Scribbler isn't an average pony, though most you might say aren't. Though what sets him aside from most others is his unnatural gift with magic. At an early age, it was discovered that he possessed a far greater amount of innate power than most other unicorns of his age. One such display of his immense energy ended up separating him from his parents at about the age of 8, and sent him accross Equestria to fend for himself. Given such a task for a pony so young, most wouldn't have made it. And it might even just be a stroke of luck that Scribbler did. His main power being teleportation, ended up getting him into whole worlds of trouble that he had no power to control for many years. It took him in and out of friendships and life threatening danger alike. Because of this, he becomes a natural nomad, learning to adapt quickly to change, and location. For ponies who have been given more than one chance to meet him, they have nicknamed him the wanderer, or wandering stranger, in a loving context. He always seeks to make friends, though most he never manages to visit until much later in his life when he gains more control.<br /><br /><br />One such friend, whom Scribbler was lucky enough to be able to stay with for longer than a few days, was a mare by the name of Sunset Glow. Sunset and Scribbler spent weeks together, teaching one another the ways of their own magic talents. Each growing and learning together rapidly in a short time. Given how well they bonded, it would turn into a long lasting friendship, and might have been more if it weren't for Scribbler's inability to control his magic. He ended up leaving without word one day, much to his regret, he was unable to say goodbye. Sunset, by this point, knew the day would come, and never forgot him. She never blamed him for leaving without word, because he had made it known that it could, and likely would happen one day. She went on, hoping one day, he would return to visit her again.<br /><br /><br />Scribbler goes on throughout his life, slowly gaining more magical knowledge, and mastery of his spells. He becomes nocturnal, spending most of his days either buried in books, or sleeping from staying up all night staring through his looking glass into the stars. Because of this, his eyes grow increasingly sensitive to light, and he fashions himself a pair of tinted goggles, with magnifying lenses that assist in seeing tiny objects, or things far off in the distance.<br /><br /><br />At about the age of 18, he manages to learn how to control his teleportation spell well enough that it no longer takes him away without his consent, though when he chooses, his destination is still relatively unknown. Gradually, by age 24, he learns how to set his own destinations, and manages to make himself a home, where he can finally return to, and live in a permanent location. He chooses an old tower in the mountains, surrounded by woodland, and far from towns and cities. He restores the old tower himself, and builds an observatory atop it, to study the night sky. By this point, he has travelled much of the lands of Equestria, and knows how to return to many of them. At this point, he begins to work on studying maps of equestria, and dives heavily into magical studies from collected books he gains from all over the land.<br /><br /><br />By the age of 26, Scribbler's tower has become a library, filled with a plethora of information ranging from agriculture to dream phychology and almost everything in between. By this time, he has become very introverted, and rarely travels unless he requires something that cannot be found on his mountain. Tresspassers who venture too close to his tower find themselves either turned around by illusion auras that Scribbler has set up to direct ponies away, or he frightens them off with illusion magic himself. Most ponies in the area are afraid of his particular part of the mountain, claiming an evil worlock lives there. None of these claims are founded in fact, but simply stories made up from those who were bold enough to wander past Scribbler's deterring illusion spells and found themselves face to face with the most frightening thing they've ever witnessed. Though, Scribbler's intensions are never ill, he simply wants to be left alone in his little sanctuary of books and nature.

"-Ignition *Second strongest spell* (Setting fire to anything)"  You should really be careful when you use the word "Anything". I don't understand how it works... does it launch a stream of fire that covers the item or whatever or just makes flames appear out of nowhere to burn it?
"-Weather control within range of 1 mile radius" This really doesn't make much sense considering this is supposed to be pegasi Territory.
    "
-Frightening presence (aura spell)" This really doesn't seem like a necessary spell when there is Invisibility.
These spells are fine... they don't need to be removed. ((Except the Weather-Control maybe...)) and i believe that frightening presence and invisibility can be modified to fit.

Here's an idea... rename invisibility spell to "Shroud of The Night" ((since he is a creature of the night as you say it will fit)) as a night-time only spell. A creature of the night should not be able to hide that easily in broad daylight. However a creature of the night would perhaps instill fear to those who saw such an "alien" creature during the day. Therefore the Frightening Presence ((Known to me from Baldur's Gate as the Cloack of Fear spell http://www.planetbaldursgate.com/bg2/character/spells/priest/priestspell.asp?lvl_id=4&file_name=CloakOfFear.htm&title=Cloak+Of+Fear))
should be a daytime spell only.

"As a little filly" isn't he a male? Don't we say colt for males? Or is it universal for little babies? Minor detail...

Maybe you could elaborate on profession, location, aspirations and stuff. I tend to think those stuff as important when an OC takes place in RPs where there are mentioned known locations.

All in all a good OC hardly OP by my standards and pretty nice. He doesn't have anything overly strange or extreme and that's good.

    @,

I have reasons for all these spells. :)

Ignition produces magical flames on any surface. It burns hot enough to melt certain metals like aluminum, but nothing like iron or things of higher melting points.

Weather control, if you remember the winter roundup episode, they mention that in Canterlot, the unicorns use their magic to change the seasons. Ponyville is following a more traditional practice.

Frightening presence is for when he's already been spotted, and doesn't have the chance to go invisible. It's a minor illusion spell which merely serves as a defense from enemies wanting to pursue him. He's already nocturnal pretty well, he uses goggles to shield his eyes from the sunlight during the daylight hours.

The term filly I believe is another word for foal, which would be an adolescent. Mare and colt are the male and female.

    Thanks for the feedback. :)
