Appearance: he has a scruffy, brown coat with a black mane and tail. his mane/tail is very dirty, always seeming to have dirt in it. he wears a harness, with a sheath on the back to carry his shovel, which he uses for fights or digging holes-whichever comes first.
Cutie Mark: its a shovel, with the handle of it turning into a sword. singling his talent in swordplay, along with his unique way of fighting.
Personality: he's usually a very optimistic pony, and is almost never in a bad mood. however, he does have a few triggers, such as insulting the dead, or mocking someone.
he's very approachable, since everypony who looks at him will probably think themselves better. after all, he looks like even a janitors got more authority! but...once someone looks at him, they'll realize: this is no low-life.

he really likes to spar, often he can be found sparring with either cubus or caliber. sometimes, he'll take up a job. obviously, he'll take on jobs such as tunneling, or digging holes. but for the most part, he'll be training, or maybe looking for a skilled individual.
Backstory: sparren came from a family that, well, digs holes. this included everything from simple graves to entire tunnel routes. the family would often go prospecting, as well. but, while that was good and all with sparren, but he always felt he wanted more.

then came the day when he came across the flyer for the swordspony tournament. he asked his mom and dad if he could go, but even though they said yes, he didnt have a sword to compete with. his father gave him the shovel that their family used to dig and prospect for years. sparren entered, but was quickly knocked out in the first round. he tried again next year, and the year after that, and the year after that. all the while becoming stronger, and more proficient with his weapon of choice. he would often ask the pony who beat him in every year to train him until the next tournament. they would almost always say yes.

and after almost twenty years, he's almost on top, taking 3rd place in all the tournaments he joins.
