Lunar Umbra 14 June 18, 2014 Share June 18, 2014 @ Luna UmbraI have to side with Nightmare Muffin when it comes to the CMC. At the moment the girls have yet to show that they are connected to any great power nor have any of them shown any talents that Luna respectively could help them through private tutoring with. I think the reason Luna outside of plot device has taken an interest in these girls is due to their connect to the barriers ( there sisters, the CMC's happiness is something that is important to the overall wellness of keeping the barrier happy and healthy, thus this is Luna's way of helping keep the world balanced and happy.@ SpinelspikeI can agree with the idea of a crystal pony being her apprentice over a unicorn, since if nothing else it would allow for further exploration of crystal pony magic and what have you.I hold to my points on Luna and the CMC, so meh. Outside of dream help I don't really see the CMC becoming anything more unless there planning on having them become the new Mane 6 with Babs and her friends coming to ponyville and Luna being the princess they write too.At this point I think Twi and her friends will simply be tutoring the world, so a private student really would not suit Twilight at this point in her princessdom nor life.Ooo Spike growing his dragon magic would be an amazing arc for S5 onward since it shows that he is growing up and taking more charge in creating his own identity. I think Discord and Cel would be the best since he is part dragon, and the Spike and Cel comic was adorable as well as eye opening for spike and us fans in how Cel teaching method works, so I think between the two of them it would be a rather interesting arc and if nothing else, having Cel and Discord work together would make for some comic gold. I doubt Luna is looking for power in her students, she is probably wanting to make sure that the Equistrain youth does not follow in her footsteps. The Moon is not a symbol of Darkness, but rather a different type of Light. not harsh and uncaring, but relaxing and caring. It is bright enough to light the way but not to harm those around it. The moon takes the sun's light and cleanses it into its true purest form.
ManaMinori 4,149 June 23, 2014 Author Share June 23, 2014 I doubt Luna is looking for power in her students, she is probably wanting to make sure that the Equistrain youth does not follow in her footsteps. I think that if Luna were to take on an apprentice of her own, it just might have to be Derpy. Luna and Derpy seem to share many similarities, for starters. Here's my reasoning. When Luna returns as Nightmare moon, she never really seems to mean harm to her subjects; even in full blown “evil mode”. While an eternal night is going to ultimately throw things out of whack and devastate the planet, she doesn't want to rule the world or destroy it, or harm anyone; Luna- as Nightmare moon, didn't understand the damage she could do by bringing about her goal of an eternal night; she simply wanted to be appreciated by her people, by whatever means necessary. And in Nightmare Night, she shows the civillians that she's making an attempt to change, and is no longer the monster that Nightmare Moon was- but that she still desires that same love and admiration from them as before. And when she's denied that, when the ponies aren't so quick to warm up to her, as she was hoping, Luna seemed ready to give up, after several attempts to earn their approval and trust. But in later episodes, she still seems willing to intervene on a personal level with ponies, like Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle, though she's got thousands of other ponies to look after; she wants to be on the same level as other ponies. I think the same could be said for Derpy. Like Luna, she seems to be considered an outcast because of her flaws- as shown in The Last Roundup; how Rainbow Dash is so insistent to decline and even attempt to prevent Derpy's offers and attempts to help and be helpful. RD is clearly frustrated and unwilling to put trust in Derpy that she won't make things an even bigger mess- much like in the way the ponyvillians didn't trust Luna after she came in for Nightmare Night, to try and interact with them. Derpy being an outcast based on her actions and misplaced trust amongst the community, but still wanting to try and correct it and do what she can in spite of the flaws could be reason for Derpy to take on an apprenticeship under Luna- although, being born a pegasus, she wouldn't be able to fulfill the same role of bringing up the moon or guarding the night.
