Dawn of Mana Keldric and Faye Custom Ponies

Custom ponies of Keldric and his fairy companion Faye, as seen in the Play Station 2 video game Dawn of Mana.

 

 

Keldric’s pony base is a engineered pose from two different generation 3 ponies.

 

Full body repaint job in flesh tone acrylic paints.

 

Eyes hand-painted/textured in my realism/fusion style.

 

Tail is RetrodollUS’s Jonquil pale yellow hair with RD’s saran platinum blond then Dollyhair’s nylon pony hair in the color yellow fever.

 

Mane is re-rooted in those 3 colors as well, but with addition of DH’s nylon mlp Butterfly and Pineapple yellows. Hair permanently hardened/styled in my hair gel method.

 

Started the crafting of the outfit with the boots. Painted a wood pattern on the rear hooves, then black up the legs for the under-leggings. Pinned thick black belt leather on the hooves then lined with brown bias tape. Blue and white areas of the boots are white bias tape with painted powder blue acrylics over top, then another layer of white bias tape cut into a triangular pattern detail with thin red hemp cording. Neutral green bias tape with grass green hemp cording lining the hems to finish the detail of the boots.

 

Next outfit layer, is the shorts. Thin red shorts hand-stitched from a scarf with a light pleat. Next layer is the waist band, pleated neutral orange bias tape with yellow ribbon inside it. Then took acorn-colored authentic leather for the large main pockets, did some thick white stitches detailing the edges then the neutral orange bias tape in the middle detailed with orange hemp cording. Same hemp cording braided for the pocket details with metallic rhinestones detailing to finish.

 

Mid back-flap of the shorts is a darker leather that I covered in the yellow silk ribbon. Hemmed the edges with thick white stitchery, wide neutral orange bias tape in the middle with matching straps hanging on each wide with stitch detailing, rhinestone detail to finish.

 

Belt is off-white braided rope with the neutral orange bias tape as belt loops, with a closing detail of pale neutral green bias tape with aqua and grass green hemp cord detail.

 

Neck/torso piece- cut some black cotton material, hand-stitched it then lined it with medium purple hemp cording.

 

White glove- Stitched from white bias tape, lined with periwinkle-bluish/gray lace, then pale purple sheer material. Bottom lined in neutral navy blue bias tape. An over-layer detail of the neutral pale green bias tape with matching maxi piping on both hems, and a natural-colored green hemp cording detailing.

 

Other front leg- Keldric’s sword. Green vines are 3 shades of green hemp cording twisted together, then permanently hardened with mod podge to keep shape.

 

Sword blade is thick black belt leather hand-painted in acrylic pigments, with transparent plastic from My Little Pony packages glued on both sides to give a nice sheen. Is Gorilla-glued to the pony’s leg and props the entire figure up in a nice dynamic pose.

 

Head band- Started with stitching a red head band from a strip of red velvet material. Braided orange hemp cording then painted the tip of it with a darker orange acrylic paint pigment. Large wing is a wing pendant I painted, then glued feathers over top. Base is detailed with red bias tape, pale yellow bias tape, then black braided hemp cording.

 

Faye- Keldric’s fairy companion- Pony base is a generation 3 Ponyville pony. All painted in matte, metallic and glitter acrylics. Ears, hair, strand and additional parts added on are all white leather non-white parts are painted acrylic.

 

Leafs on the legs are dried hardened glue that I cut to shape then glued to the legs, then painted. Sashes are scarf materials. 

 

 

 

Something fun about this post, is this character is a milestone that represents the progression of my skills from 2007. 

 

 

The custom on the left is the freshly crafted version, one on the right is a beginner-level custom of mine from 2007 of the same exact design.
