Gambling and Royalty Don't Mix (Dusk x Bionic)

Quillina script was a very famous pony. She was hoof-picked to be the royal scribe to Luna herself. She lived in a castle that housed the two sisters, right across from Luna. She was a famous writer, and she loved to publish things. However, there was one thing that she loved to do: gamble.

 

Word was a famous card player was in Canterlot, so she decided it was time to see it the rumors were true. She took roughly 1000 bits (her salary was almost 75000 a year, and she hardly ever spent it anyways), and so she had journeyed to the casino to the south of the castle.

 

She'd hidden her cutie mark and her flank, so only her head and mane were visible under her cloak. she sat at a table after checking in and put the cards down.

 

"Anypony willing to play Quills?" She asked, smiling.

Aces High raised his eyebrows at the newcomer's voice. His cutie mark showed as plain as day- a gair warning to any player who had heard of him. "I'll play anypony who can ante up... no matter the game, no matter the bet- as long as there IS a bet, that is. Shall we, Miss..."?

She smirked and put down 200 bits on the table, "Game's blackjack. I have a card deck all ready for us." Quillina was a high class gambler, and this was a little differnet than most. she smiled and looked at him, laying down the cards. She was ready to start this competition.

Aces chuckled and leaned back in his chair. "Two hundred bits, eh... heck you're makin' me spend alla' my money Ijust won last game. I'l give ya this, you're an expensive gal to play with." He sat dtraight as he got serious about the game they were due to play. "Hit me".

She smirked and hit him with the card, then she looked down, taking a hit herself. She calculated she had maybe a 27% chance of either going under or over on the next hit. She looked at him, "Another hit there, pony boy?" She smirked, knowing her total to be roughly 14- a Queen and a two.

"Pony boy? Sure sugarcube, hit me again...why not?"In hoof he held the king of spades he had been dealt by his opponent. He had already evaluated andvcalculated his card and odds of going over or under to be just below fifty percent chance of going over and at least a fifty percent chance of going under.

She hit him again, than she hit herself. she laid the deck down, and leaned back casually. As the royal scribe, she was considered royalty. She was relatively famous across Equestria, but the lighting and her robe was covering her cutie mark. she smirked and then she looked at him, "On three, one, two ,three pony boy!" She flipped down and she smirked. A Queen, a Two, and an Eight. A perfect 20.

"Well sugercube, it looks like your'e gonna' take me fer all I've got. "Leave it to you gals to take a colt's bits". He then revealed his two cards to reveal a king and an eight and a two. "Well, whad'ya know, looks like I've been the chickens early again. Will you excuse fer jus' a sec' there sugarcube", he asked leaving the table to visit one two table over. A moment later, he returned his hat brimming with bits. "Fuzzy dice, too easy".

Quillina had never tied with another pony, ever. She secretly was one of the best card players in Canterlot, but this pony had just stumped her. Blinking, she looked at him, "Pardon? what's the game we'll use to break the tie?" She didn't know what he watned to do.

"It's a game of my own invention if ya don't mind. A li'l somethin' I like ta' call Aces High. Basically we each take four cards from the top of the deck and place our bits. The pony with the highest point total amoung thier cards wins. We will be using my own personal deck for this game. Oh, and by the way, if your card total goes o'er twenty you bust and aces are elevens. Sound okay, sugarcube"?

She looked at him and quickly got her own deck. She wasn't sure about playing anotherponies game. The situation was high, and she signed. It was this or nothing. She put her 200 on the table. "I'm game if you are." She signed, looking down at the ground. Moaning at her misfortune.

"Ya' got a bad poker face there sugarcube, it's pretty obvious you dont like my game an' I get it. You prob'ly think it's unfair. If ya' rather a different game, it's fine. But if not then...." He places his bits on the table and places four cards on the table face down in the shape of a diamond.

Moaning inside, she looked at him. Her eyes glanced down at his cutie mark and she narrowed her eyes, "Says the pony here who probably is going to win either way." She grunted, "Fine, let's play." She watched his hooves carefully, knowing this was probably going to do something tricky.

"Ya' know ma'am that hurts-really..ya' don't trust meh? I assure you that I'm a very honest player. What reason do I have to cheat when I nev'r lose a game with a bet..ever?" Aces says with a wry grin on his face and a chuckle through his banter. He then waits for her to place her four cards down on the table.

Quillina set a steely look in her eyes, and she slowly shifted her cloak so her cutie mark was visible, "You're talking to the royal scribe here mister. I would like some manners." She normally never, ever, used her status against somepony, but this was getting her mad. She slammed her cards down, the cloak sliding off to reveal the famous pony, "Let's see who won."

"Ace, five, two, two." Aces says without looking at his cards. Ya' know, we live in different worlds... you who gets anything handed to you just 'cause you can write a purty letter. Me, all Ive ever had was my cardplaying..and fer ya' to vall me a dishonest player..Im not gonna sit here listening ta' this. As he walked away from the table to cool down, he kicked his chair into the table glipping his cards revealing an ace, a five, and two twos. He then walked out of the card section to the slot machines, leaving his bit-filled hat behind.

Quillina had to calm herself down. She knew itw as wrong, heck, very rude even!, to use her status against him. She hadn't exactly lived a very good life before she became a scribe. In fact, she'd been poorer than he probably was. But she sighed and she composed herself. She walked over to him, and she slowly cooled down, "Listen, I'm sorry I blew up like that. I get a little...uh...you know...not myself when I gamble. It's true, I shouldn't have used my status against you..."

Aces sat with his back to mare . He pulled out his four, five, and six of diamonds silenty. He cast a spell on his cards and constructed walls around him connecting themselves to wall the slot machine was on. "Simple thin's like statis dont mean nuthin' ta' meh. What does bother me is the fact tha' ya' thought ya' could yell at me to show you manners and suspec t me of cheating. Since you sat at the table, ive let you pick the game, the wager and when I chose a game ya' didnt like...I offered to let you pick a different game. An' as fer cheatin' my cutie mark would not be aces...it would be somethin' like...shifty eyes or a hoof up a sleeve. So how about some manners for the little pony who isnt the royal scribler!?....Sorry, I didnt mean the scribbler bit.." he sapid lowering his walls.

Quillina shook her head, "No, actually you have the right to call me a 'scibbler'. I should've been more relaxed and focused on you than the game." She sat down and she slid both sets of bits to him, "You deserve it. You were going ot let me win anyways, I think that it's more worth it to me that you take them after I screamed at you. You were right, that was a horrible thing to do." He slowly looked at him, then she looked at his cutie mark, "How did you get your cutie mark?"

"Well, it sure looks like we got off to a bad start. What say we start over? My name id Aces High and I am exceptionaly skilled in gambling gamees", he said in attempt to sound proper as an apolagy for the fight. "As for my cutie mark, there s not much to tell, really..I grew up in appaloosa alone after my parents died.." he said looking somber. "But, thats thee past..so lets just leave it there. Anyways, I was always a good gambler. And almost all of my spells rely on my cards...I was never good with combat magic. On my thirteenth birthday, my friends snuck me into a local casino where in three hours I gambled them into bankriptcy before they even realuzed how young I was, I was winning games that fast. Thats about it..what 'bout you"?

Quillina looked up and she sat down, "Well my parents dropped me off here ocne I was old enough, and I was a little bit...well good at writing, you see. I made a living publishing books, but I was still kinda poor. like, lived in an apartment that looked like it would fall down at any moment poor. Well, after a while, I met the princess, and through a crazy series of events, she asked me to become her scribe." she looked at him, "I'm surprised that you managed to get into the casino! I've been gambling since I was just out of being a filly, and I could NEVER get into one of those places! How did you manage to get past security?!"

"Well, it was friends Candy Apple and her brother Apple Crisp who got me in. They were only 14 and 15 at the time but their father was the shieriff at the time. So they were trying use that to get in underage or atleast distract the guy blocking the door so I could get in. By the time the secirity kicked then out in a fit of rage that got him fired, I had already won every bit in the place. That day went down in hostory, I tell ya'".

Quillina pulled up a chair near him and she chuckled, "I happened to see a casino one night and the flashing lights made me kinda curios. I went ahead and did some stuff, then next thing I knew I had 200 bits. I'm not a huge gambler, but I get all riled up and yell at ponies at times." she blushed, "I don't know what comes over me, it just happens."

Aces nonchalantly used his magic to put some bits into each slot machine and pulled each lever, causing bits to come pouring out of every machine. "Eh, everypony has thier flaws...I mean look at me. Gambling,s all I'm good for which is why I have no real social life. Nopony wants to hang out with a gambler...'pearently Im a bad influence", he chuckled handing Quillina a pile of bits from the slots. "This is..my apology for a awful game with me".

"I wouldn't mind doing more gambling with you. We actually have the ability to partner up. We at least are a bit...compatable." She smiled and handed him back the bits, "Don't pay me yet. Why not we go drive this place into bankruptcy, then split the profits?" She looked him in the eyes and her eyes had the light of gambling in her eyes, a violent fire.
