Who would fill the Mane 6's horseshoes?

We all know that someday MLP:FIM will end, and we'll have to wait a ridiculously long time before Generation 5 comes around. But do you guys think Hasbro might be setting up the characters for the next cast, while MLP:FIM is still ongoing? I know a lot of people like to speculate that the background ponies would be the alternate mane 6 of generation 4, but going into gen 5, who, if they do decide to carry ponies over into the new era, would be the new Mane 6? I think it's a possibility that they'd use some of the ponies the Mane 6 have helped or reformed. Sunset Shimmer, for one.....Coco Pommel, Spitfire, ...and this is just my opinion, but I'd also really like to see Aria Blaze, Sonata Dusk, and Trixie as the final three.

I think the new Mane Six will be: The Cutie Mark Crusaders, Cheese Sandwich, Daring Doo, and Coco Pommel.

but that's such a mashup of ponies from different age ranges. It wouldn't make sense.  The CMC are way younger than those other ponies. And Cheese I highly doubt will be returning as a permanent voice, because he was voiced by a guest star celebrity

From what little I've observed of previous gens, age has nothing to do with it. According to that theme song I saw, Cheerilee, Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle were part of the main cast in a previous generation, and were actually all around the same age as the others(and each other). The characters as we see them now are different iterations. If background characters do become main characters they will be different characters than they are now. I'm also going to assume there will be a petition circulating to make Derpy one of the main characters, as soon as fans get wind of even the slight possibility of a Gen 4.5 or 5. But, yeah, I highly doubt there will be any stallions in the main cast, since that has yet to happen. Then again, the series has been progressive. I've seen the first two OVAs of the G1 series, and have to assume those ponies reproduce asexually, since they're all female. I have yet to see any males, even in the background.
