whats the elements of harmony head cannon?

I cant find out what the history of it is plz help

I personally don't think a ton of it is said.

From the looks of it, Celestia and Luna were the first confirmed wielders of it, having found/taken them from the tree of harmony somewhere in the everfree forest. They then used them against discord, possibly Sombra, and then Celestia used them against her fellow wielder Luna--but severed her connection in the process.

From there, it seems like the elements laid dormant and unneeded until being later recovered at their old castle by the current mane six.

 

There's a few bits I infer from this whole deal.

 

1.) They elements aren't limited to a single bearer, but to ponies who understand the elements on a deep, personal level. Supposedly both Twilight and Cadence transcended due to similar reasons, and since Luna and Celestia are alicorn rulers of great wisdom and kindness, they may in turn deeply understand a number of the elements (and gained the ability to wield/represent more than one).

2.) Betraying someone close to you, and in turn betraying your element(s) may hurt your ability to use them, as it compromises something deep inside yourself that they rely on.

3.) Whatever dark string of events that existed before Luna's fall and in the current story was largely absent in the 1000 years, or the elements are harmony were simply never used--otherwise they would have been taken to Canterlot, as an active or remembered defense against rising threats to peace.

4.) Given they are originally part of the tree of harmony... they seem to be something of a balancing presence in their world, on a very natural level?

Who knows, lol. For all we know it could just be one of those things that was 'always there'.
