BronyPony 575 August 12, 2014 Share August 12, 2014 Alright everyone, the Outernet is live. A freely, world wide accessible internet is now available: https://www.outernet.is/launch/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oA76VRJO4uI Through satellite data broadcasting, Outernet is able to bypass censorship, ensure privacy, and offer a universally-accessible information service at no cost to global citizens. It's the modern version of shortwave radio, or BitTorrent from space. I have been developing an app for the Outernet that, I feel, will makes things even better. I still don't know why this hasn't been spread around. What do you think? Is it a scam?
SilverStarApple 849 August 12, 2014 Share August 12, 2014 https://www.outernet.is/launch/referral/MjFmNDNlNT This actually seems like a really good idea, and something very important. I was dead until the moment I met you. I was a powerless corpse pretending to be alive. Living without power, without the ability to change my course, was akin to a slow death. If I must live as I did before then... -Lelouch, Code Geass - My NEW DeviantART: http://SilverStarApple.deviantart.com/Want to make money for being an AWESOME PONY? https://www.tsu.co/Epsilon725 My fanfic, starring Silver Star Apple: http://www.fimfiction.net/story/224996/the-shining-silver-star-of-the-apple-family
ThePurpleK 71 August 12, 2014 Share August 12, 2014 This is very, very, good news. Making the data we take for granted accessible to the whole world would be a major step in increasing the level of education in third world countries. Unfortunately, the cost of setting up the devices is the major limiting factor to worldwide adoption of this.

All it requires is a rasberry pi and some scripting. https://www.outernet.is/pages/how-to
ThePurpleK 71 August 12, 2014 Share August 12, 2014 All it requires is a rasberry pi and some scripting. https://www.outernet.is/pages/how-to I believe you need a satellite dish as well: https://www.outernet.is/pages/shop My point is, their mission to make data available globally, including third world countries, would be limited by poverty and low income areas. Not if hotspots are set up. Also, i bet groups will begin to go to the third world countries and help them gain access to the outernet.

ShadowPirateX 600 August 12, 2014 Share August 12, 2014 Not sure if it's a good or bad thing. Doesn't seem that different from the normal internet. "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings" ~ Optimus Prime
