Flutters: drakonophobia

Fluttershy is probably one of the most relatable characters in the show for me. As someone who had to learn how to cope with traumatic experiences and live a somewhat normal life I feel the lessons she learns and the pace they take her character development is tastefully and realistically done. There is an Elephant in the room that needs to be adressed though, hopefully they will in season Five.

Fluttershy's drakonophobia, or fear of dragons

 

What happened in her past to make her so terribly frightened of Dragons? This is not like her stage fright or talking with ponies, this is "I would rather stomp my friend in the chest and jump out of a window before I get close to them" kind of fear.

 

Its not like she does not deal with terrifying deadly creatures on a regular basis. Heck she had a staring contest with a Cockatrice (that literally turns you to stone with a glance) and won .She has no problem with spike cause he is a baby dragon, in fact she finds him cute, but to teen and adult dragons she wants nothing to do with.

 

I think Dragons may of played a part of why she is the way she is. How they played that part is up to speculation at this point. However we know her folks have never been mentioned and no one really tried to get her back to cloudsdale when she fell off so it would not be too farfetched to say these points are somehow related to her fear.

 

Of my several theories I have a few I like the most

 

Guilt theory: When flutters was a blank flank she still had her Stare, but no control over it. in a fit of anger at her folks she runs away and runs into a dragon, she vents to it and inadvertently used her stare to get her parents killed. Problem with this theory is its pretty dark and likely not going to to be brought to focus if true.

 

Migration theory: During a Dragon migration the Flutter fam goes to watch the dragons like her friends did. The Dragons that spot them turn the outing dark real quick. Fluttershy stayed hidden but her folks did not make it. Again same problem as before.

 

I have others but they follow a similar vein. do not assume that because it is a kid show that something like this isn't the case. Death is present in the mlp verse. Flutters feeds fish to animals, birds scoop up fish, squirrels have been stuck to trees left to die, timber wolves are deadly, a boulder almost killed Pinkie, ect. Aj parents are dead as well, but she gained strength from it while flutters may of been emotionally scarred from it. Yes she has social anxiety but you can have more than one traumatic event at a time trust me.

 

So do you think Dragons may of caused flutters some childhood trauma? If not why do you think she is so specific in her fear of dragons and not any other dangerous deadly monster to walk the planet? Do you think her parents are dead and dragons caused it? do you think her parents death is unrelated? Do you have evidence saying they are alive? If they are alive why did they not bring her back home?

It's possible. Those are some logical head canon's you have there. This isn't something I've given much thought on but agree on your theory.

I like my headcanon as close to plausable as possible. However I fear you maybe in the majority on not giving her fear of dragons a lot of thought. If something like this happened it gives all the more impact when she got in the dragons face in season one. She did not want to lose them like she did her parents.
