Hmm...okay, here's an OC I'm hoping to get into a game I'm making.  His name is a pun, yes, and he has some quirks to his personality, but his job is a serious and important one---though his very job is actually something from out of my headcanon:

 

Name:  Crock O'Baloney

Age:  Middle-aged

Breed:  Unicorn

 

Story Line:  Crock's parents were master cooks, famous around Equestria for their expertise in creating flavors and textures that were to the mouth what a symphony was to the ears.  Most of the rest of his family took cooking and food tasting very seriously and were pursuing that for their cutie marks, but Crock was the black sheep of the family.

 

    You see, as a foal, Crock always gazed in wonder---not at how his parents or anyone else cooked, but at how other ponies took care of animals.  Mostly it was earth ponies who took care of those animals, but occasionally a unicorn or a pegasus would prove good at understanding and caring for animals.  He always hoped to be one of those exceptions, one of those special non-earth ponies who could make a difference for animals.  He asked questions and learned as much as he could about how unicorns and pegasi contributed to the care of animals:  how pegasi guided birds north when winter was over and south when winter was beginning---and how unicorns could use their magic to transmute plant matter like hay, fruit, and vegetables into meat that could be digested by predators.  (This is the part that's my headcanon!)  That's right:  ponies had pacified nature to the point where even predators like hawks or bears didn't want to harm prey animals, but even those predators had to get their food from somewhere.  And guess what?  Unicorn magic could fill that gap in!

 

    Crock knew this was his calling from the moment he heard that:  he studied every meat-transmuting spell he could get his hooves on, and found he quickly mastered every single food-transmuting spell with ease.  His parents, skeptical of his animal fascination at first, were proud of him once they learned he really did carry on the family's mastery of cooking and tasting food, albeit in a new direction.

 

    As an adult, he got a job at a pet and pet supply store in Ponyville.  He is an employee who does common things like socialize pets, help stock the shelves, help match pets to their owner's needs and personality, etc., but he has a unique role to play in that store:  when a customer comes in with a pet who has special tastes or special needs, he can do a custom transmute to get the exact kind of meat or other food item that customer wants---he can get them things that they couldn't get from factories where pet food is mass-produced.

    He gets kind of jumpy and easily imagines the worst when he's under stress, and nothing stresses him more than thinking there's something he's supposed to do that he can't do.
