Numbered Notifications

Hello there. As you know, there is a limit of ten notifications that you can see without going to the notifications page. Normally, I check them constantly, but when I wake up every morning, it's usually over ten, and I have to check the notifications page. However, when the number is 22, or something like that, I have to count the notifications from the top, until I reach the 22nd, due to the fact that they unbold when I click on the notifications button. My suggestion is, would it be possible to number the notifications? That way, I could easily reach the 22nd, or whatever number of notifications I have. Thanks for reading :)

I agree this should be looked at. However, I have a workaround (that may not work depending on how you're browsing the forum.) Instead of left-clicking the notifications button, I right-click and open it in a new window (or tab, depending on the browser). The notifications don't loose their boldness that way. However, it is a bit of a nuisance to do things that way, and if you're using a mobile device you may not have the right-click option.

I hadn't thought of that. I'll definetely use that in the meantime. Still, you're right, it'd be really useful, especially for mobile devices :)

A potential revised notification system could display only new notifications with previous ones available when requested. This would eliminate the need to number notifications and would also increase the efficiency of viewing and acting upon notifications. I'll keep that idea in mind for the future.

I'm not completely sure I understand. Wouldn't that cause a similar problem, in that once I open the small notifications window, the server would mark them as "Seen", thereby not allowing me to see them when I go to all notifications?

It would work exactly the same way as it does now where the "View All Notifications" button shows both viewed and new notifications. The only difference would be the notification dropdown only shows new notifications that have been received since the last time the dropdown was used or the All Notifications page was viewed.

But it would still only show a max of ten, no?

Who knows? Theirs no need to stick specifications on things before any action has taken place to make it a reality.

Just thinking as I go along here, but if the 10 new notifications limit has been exceeded, here are 3 options i've just thought of...

  1. A "show more" button could appear that extends the length of the dropdown to allow for more notifications to be displayed.
  2. You are prompted to visit the All Notifications page where the new notifications are clearly marked.
  3. SCROLLLLLING

Increasing the 10 limit could happen, but theirs no need to verify that before work has even begun, if work even begins in the first place.

But these are just my thoughts, not OFFICIAL PONIVERSE CONFIRMATIONS :P

I brohoof all your thoughts! X3 They would certainly make it easier to deal with the Forums.

Right now I access the User CP shortcut http://mlpforums.com/index.php?app=core&module=usercp&tab=core&area=notificationlog as soon as I see I have more than 10, before I click on the Notifications button; that way they'll still be bold and easily distinguishable from the old notifications. But it's still a manual task. It'd be nice if something like your ideas were put into play. :)
