Any books or comics purchased through iBooks /iTunes can only be read through Apple's program, IIRC, thanks largely to DRM and the like. What computer do you have? I had a similar problem to you, but after I upgraded my Mac to Mavericks I was able to use iBooks and therefore read the comics as such. Did you download the comic directly on a iOS device? How familiar are you with the iOS file system? I downloaded it on my PC. Not familiar with it at all, since I never used one.
